Yeah, I could see troop transports or something. But for an aircraft, you'd have to actually physically hit the aircraft with the missile. That's a really tall order, better to just explode nearby and spray shrapnel.

Would you also have to make it adhere to the aircraft somehow while the reaction took place?  And if the aircraft is already hit and disabled, what's the point?

I would guess it more likely non US sub missile. I mean, right?

Other than the fact subs don't carry SAMs.  I will ask again, if we assume the video does show a missile, where was the launch point for that missile?

norland2424

LOL did they really say a sub shot the flight down?, with no anti air capacity ?

aldousburbank

I'm curious how common and/or plausible the "fuel tank explosion" scenario is?

This is a really good show tonight.  I dig it.

Agreed...planes have been flying with empty tanks forever...why was this the first accident attributed to an empty tank?

That is marginally within the realm of possibility. MARGINALLY. But absolutely impossible for it to have come from a US platform.
Look eve if this was done by someone, the navy even by a horrible, terrible accident, how could they keep this underwraps with so many people involved.

Yep, but some people don't want to let facts get in the way of a good story.

It's impossible. Period.

This is what Bob Crane sounds like?  Neat!  I have to buy one of his products just for supporting Art all these years.

Yeah, I mean if you have a missile traveling at high speed intended to hit an aircraft and then stop on a dime so the reaction can take place . . . that's just not going to happen. And that's assuming you can make contact with the aircraft at all.

No, they would have to surface, of course.

if anything it would be surfaced launched, makes no point of any sub launching a sam underwater
