Eh - they've been babbling about this for a while now.  I'm trying to resist my morbid curiosity re: how well/badly it's designed and NOT sign up.

I found this disturbing and this is the reason why.  Look at the name of the newsletter, Coastzone.  What it the name of that "other" forums that sucks up to George?  You know it, the NightHawkZone.  That just seems too much in the cozyzone for me.   It is not original and shows too much favortism to another forum.  They should have been revolutionary and named it The Coast with George Noory Sucks Newsletter.  Now that is a title for you.

I thought that ship sailed a while ago.

danDNA

we have only the weekends to live for.

GN has turned this ocean bound tanker, which was once full of interesting crew with scary stories, a couple of ship's cats and a crazy captain into a cruise ship that sails from hollywoodland to some godforsaken mexican tourist town every night, with dancing girls, magicians, and cabaret singers, glitzy curtains, a flashing dance floor and coloured cocktails (with very little alcohol in them) served throughout the trip, just to stop you realising you are only half a mile out to sea.
Every weekend captain Ahab takes the wheel, and although he is a little too religious he makes for the high seas (mainly because the shipping company know there are less passengers aboard at the weekend), he opens up the throttle and gives you a taste of the ship's former glory, as a deep sea voyager capable of showing you the stars in the night sky without the light pollution of the big city.
Then, on Sundays (when everyone is sound asleep, except for John from Long Island) a maintenance man - who occasionally worked for and had a lot of respect for the crusty old man that used to captain the ship, and who fancies himself as a pirate - gets the opportunity to take it as far out as he wants, the company don't care where he goes, he has no passengers and at least the engines get a good opening up whilst he's using it, all they care about is making money, mainly from the stuff they sell to the passengers. So this guy takes it into the deep, where you can see nothing but the vast darkness of the ocean, stars and planets, and occasionally a strange light that you cant explain, where you get a glimpse of the vastness of the universe. This maintenance man tells you stories like an old sailor would, and he sneaks aboard some of his old pals who crack open the bourbon and maybe even a bit of pot, because they are from an earlier time when experimentation was the norm, when this ship used to be full of outcasts, freaks and weirdos, when the only passengers were runaways, vermin and concubines. Back then the company didn't care what happened out at sea, as long as they got their product from A to B they were happy, so all sorts of shit used to go down. Back then they navigated with the stars, not GPS; they had crew members that would smell the wind and make predictions, and not magicians who pulled rabbits out of their hats; back then even the ship was scary, it had dark places that were said to be haunted, it had new crew every journey, not the same old workers caked in make up to hide their tiredness; it was often on long voyages where everyone felt in danger, and occasionally a genuine fear of the night sky, of the deep ocean, of going to sleep, where the stowaways were glad to get back to dry land.

it has made me sad to write this, but as i said at the beginning, we have only the weekend to live for. This station has become a commercial venture and nothing more, they are using the paranormal as a way of selling things, and Noory is just their spokesman, thats what makes him so bad. he dont give a shit about the topics he discussed, he only cares whether he is getting a pat on the head for going to the ads on time. I dont know what the solution is, perhaps we could approach who ever is in direct competition with C"C bosses and suggest a new type of show to rival C"C. Because this site is equivalent to the ropes that tether the boat to the dock, and we're the rats running from the place we once called home, where poison has been laid down by a big, efficient pest controllers, the runaways that can no longer make it up the gangway, let alone find a place to hide.

Well said!

I think I'll pass up Julie's invitation to the lido deck.

I'm definitely not getting it, nor do I want it. That's some cheesy cheesy cheesy cheese.

If you watch that show Unexplained w/ George Noory, it seems like a paranormal infomercial, so I'm feeling what your sayin' Dan

I know. That show is horrible. I only watched the first episode and it was so bad, that I couldn't bring myself to watch any more episodes. Imagine Snoory's radio show, except that you could watch it. It's that boring. Everything about Coast is so friggin' lame these days, it's pathetic.

Even the pictures on the Coast to Coast site suck lately. When I first started listening to Coast a few years ago, I used to love the pictures. Now they are all so boring and unimaginative. Like when a co-worker shows you their lame vacation pictures and you have to slap a smile on your face and pretend to be interested.

Great post Dan. Maybe the best post ever describing the present C2C to the former great C2C. They gotta get Knapp on as the full-time host no matter what......

I'd vote for that in a heartbeat.  He doesn't have Art's naturalness - but he makes up for that and more by being a crack journalist. I think he'd also wear better as daily fare than Ian - at least on this program.

The thing is - he IS so good, and they clearly LIKE him - so, how did Noory end up with the full time gig?  Does Knapp not want it?  Does he have contract issues?  What?  I mention these things only because I suspect that since they didn't give it to him the first time - there are reasons that may still be in play.

Besides, I see no sign Noory is going anywhere.

Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighhhhhhhhhhhhh

I knew something was not right with it and could not figure it out. That is a very astute observation and I am 100% sure you are correct in your assumption, and cozyzone was a nice touch, great post.

Frys Girl

Do you know what? I caught that similarity and I thought - "no way. it's just a coincidence." But having learned about George, reading this makes perfect sense. He probably reads that forum every day and likes the ego stroking. You're right. Great observation. On the $$

Max

danDNA, your picture is still disturbing....lol

but your post is so right.

danDNA, you really summed it up colourfully. I wonder who Premiers competitors are though? I mean they are owned by real channel who has single handedly taken over vast markets in the US. Does anyone know who competes with them directly?

Ha, and this weekend for Saturday all we get is an Ian re-run. You'd think someone could just sit in for him, there must be loads of prospects that would jump at the opportunity, but maybe that really would be like getting a french chef in to cook up the tasteless McDonalds hamburgers. Wouldn't want to give the public the impression that there's anything better out there.
