What luxurious lives people must lead to have the time to be outraged by the killing of an animal that they didn't even know existed in a country that they couldn't identify on a map on a continent where millions of people don't even have access to clean drinking water. Hell with this story

This story would have generated passions whether it were aggressively covered or not. The imagery here is photographic and powerful. And in a Jenner media culture, the reality is the interest drove the coverage for once. People forgot about Dylan Roof because Justice very swiftly rained down upon his bowl-headed ass. This story reminds of those Boy Scout troop leaders who knocked over those naturally formed rock structures in a national park and were sent to prison.  Just really, really, really dumb.  But in this case a lot of cruelty.

The really pathetic thing is that in this day and age a lion hunt consists of driving some asshole out to the bush in a Range Rover, finding a lion and then the worthless of piece of shot pops open the sun roof on the Range Rover. Pathetic.

I agree with what Albrecht said about the killing for Oriental 'medicines'. Tigers, Rhinos, pretty much anything with a pulse killed to satisfy primitive superstition.

I have no problem with hunting if the hunter is going to eat it. Feed his family/village etc, or killing vermin. But killing animals for 'fun' is disgusting.

Jeeze, the first and only time I think I saw my dad really lose it. He went ballistic and shook my world (I was somewhere inside it shitting myself), after that I wouldn't dream of hurting another animal for kicks.

Your dad's a good man. That's what good dad's do: set their kids straight when they need it even with little critters like mice and pebbles. My own dad used to hold wee birds that fell from the nest and feed them with eyedroppers. He set me a great example. He never passed one of these little creatures by with a lecture on how many robins or sparrows there were, he sat down with me in the front yard and fed it until it either grew strong and lived, or died. And when one of these birds died in the palm of his hand, I remember too how it affected him. To this day, he's my gold standard.

There was some guy who had a tiger as a "pet" some decades ago. I actually saw him "walking it" at one of our local creeks once and you would see it in the back of his suburban sometimes. Then his property got annexed to the city and it became illegal to have large cats. He refused to give it up. Police and Animal Control came out to seize the animal, for its own good, and killed it. It was a crazy situation (who would own a friggin' tiger) but also the ineptness of the City and too force the issue to enforce the code (even though, originally it was legal and only by the city aggrandizement did he, and the tiger, come under their regulations.) The excuse was that animal control didn't know the proper amount of sedative to use in their dart guns and "over estimated" and killed the tiger.

ps: now Cecil's brother is killed? And IN the park itself by a poacher? Names please? Let us start the online bullying. That is crazy. Hope he will be prosecuted. I think African countries should start a programs where people can go and hunt poachers? Maybe bounties on them? Humans are 'the most dangerous game' after all and would actually be a contest....
