My Apologies to SciFiAuthor

Started by Uncle Duke, July 28, 2015, 10:22:34 AM

Uncle Duke

I want to apologize to BellGab member SciFiAuthor for rude comments and cheap shots I posted early this morning on the "live chat" thread.  Had a bad day and was also frustrated over both the guest and excessive buffering by TuneIn.  There is no excuse for my rude comments, however, and I am sorry for showing disrespect to one of this forum's classier members.  Please accept my apologies, sir.

Erm, reported.

I am having so many issues with tunein. Not just the buffering, but the audio stops altogether. I just gave up on it last night. No sense restarting tunein just to have the audio stop over and over. Frustrating as hell. I spent more time trying to get it to work than I did listening to the show.

I'm glad you've been able to get laid since then.   ;D ;D

Just don't tell Mrs. Duke.

As for TuneIn, it's been a disaster for me with MITD as well, especially tuned to DMDN.  I seem to get better performance (fewer restarts/less frequent buffering) when I use TuneIn to listen to one of the terrestrial radio stations that carry Art.  Last night I used it to listen to WBCQ, one of the shortwave stations broadcasting MITD.  I'm hoping a local station (none currently in Ohio last I checked) will pick up the show eventually.

Scifi's got pretty thick skin.  He survived various slings and arrows on the GNS thread many moons ago, handling it all with style.  And I'm not just saying that so he'll add me as a character in his next book.

I have had only good results using VLC or Rythmbox using the AAC stream...I tried TuneIn once and it dropped out...NO issues at all with the AAC!

So I've been using TuneIn now for about a year and while I do have the occasional stream drop I don't experience many problems. The same goes for when I listen to MITD. Are you guys connected to WiFi or using data to stream it? I've noticed that using data is much more stable than WiFi because any slight drop and TuneIn goes crazy.

Uncle Duke,
Have you tried clearing your browser cache (be careful this may delete stored passwords and such)?

It's possible tune-in and some parts of your operating system (possibly security features or antivirus software) do not work well together.

VLC seems like a good suggestion.

Your complaint is valid. You shouldn't have to crowd source technical support on a forum.

Well Zeebo, you better figure out a way to build a plow and start planting seeds.

Uhhh... tree rats plant seeds all the tiem...

MITD on TuneIn is more stable using data as opposed to Wifi, but still have the problems just not as severe.  I clear my browser cache once a month, have not noticed any affect on TuneIn but will try it.  I definitely have more trouble with DMDN on TuneIn than anything else I listen to.  If I had a compatibility issue with my antivirus/security and TuneIn, wouldn't I see the problems across the board, not just with DMDN?

Thanks for the input.

Oh, yeah.  Who can forget the, ahem, "dolphin love" days.  Or was that a porpoise?

Probably, but its a pretty touchy streaming app so who knows. It could just be that so many people are trying to stream it at the same time that some people are having issues. Also does anyone know where the server is for Dark Matter Network? It could be that proximity to the server coupled with the huge strain on the stream is leading to issues for some as well.

I would also like to apologize to SciFiAuthor. He asked me a question last week, and I said, "I'll get back to you later on that," and I entirely have not.

I'm not sure how TuneIn actually "carries" the streams. Perhaps it's just reference links. But have you tried a stream player app with a direct link?

I've been using VLC with the aac+ stream a lot. It's not totally reliable. I have to restart the stream every 90 minutes or so. But it seems like it's more solid than what you're experiencing.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice, now all I have to do is figure out what you said.  Not to worry, however, my son-in-law should be able to get me set up.  He sold phones with a couple different cellular service providers, the man knows his cell phones.  The tough part will be explaining to him what I want to listen to.

Thanks again.
