I am extraordinarily blessed to have been born in this wonderful country. I feel it is my obligation, indeed my honor, to share all I can with those less fortunate than I. I pray that our future leaders will possess the wisdom and integrity of George Washington.

I give thanks for my 7th great grandfather, Asa Joy, who was a sergeant in the Minutemen of the Massachusetts Militia during the Revolutionary War. The concept of a republican democracy where we swear allegiance to a set of ideals, not to emperors, dictators or monarchs.

No, there is a big difference in our revolutions..they started as a pure democracy, not a republic...that's why the streets of Paris and Versailles ran red with the blood of monarchs and the aristocracy, it was a mob rule mentality...that did not happen here...there was no backlash after the Revolution against the Tory population...

France started as a monarchy up until it's people said "non". Once the initial blood letting was over with, they went to a Presidential secular democracy; as it remains to this day..Well, apart from the occasional war when they roll on their backs and wait for the cavalry to arrive and save the day. And then they repaid that liberation by stabbing us in the back with the post WW2 European Union bs.

It's fair to say I think your backlash is ongoing, you have a bodyline that the French revolution could only have nightmares about.

I haven't stood on the throne; but joking aside; Brenda brings a lot of dough into the country. Oddly, the most enthusiastic visitors to all things 'Royal' are Americans. She's a figurehead, she's in her 80's and the old girl hasn't got much wrong (The delay with Diana being killed aside, but that's due I think to their lack of ability to empathise); her grandson has served in the Army and by accounts (I know someone who's son in law served in Afghanistan with him) is a fine soldier, committed and remarkable officer who never shirked from his duty. How many US Presidents/Senators have sent their kids to war?

I do get the 'Republican' stance, we have several very left wing MP's who periodically call for the dismantling of the Monarchy and have a republic instead, but they're usually ridiculed as irrelevant. I'm ambivalent about it really; they're there, so what.

We have a satirical magazine here called 'Private Eye'; it's pretty well known and takes on the rich and powerful in it's pages. Often out numbered, sometimes sued! I don't know the origins of Brenda as a pseudonym, but they've used it for the Queen for years.
