My daughter uses an external 1tb hard drive to save old stuff on, and just has the recent stuff on her computer hard drive.  I think you can get them for less than 100 bucks on ebay.  i dunno if that would work for you or not, but its an idea.

none that are inexpensive. they typically run 2-3x as much as the sata ones.

You just need more coffee
