The bungee cord slipped out of my hand and the metal part whacked me in the side of the eye. It detached my retina, dislodged the lens and busted the globe. They saved the eyeball itself, but I had no vision. After about 10 years I got tired of the pain it was causing and the headaches and had it removed and got a prosthetic. I wish I could have waited. They are now experimenting with stem cells to build eyeballs later by layer. Not sure they can help me since they severed my optic nerve.

I can see why you removed it. But yeah, the technology is getting better. Maybe they could've salvaged it. Or maybe not, who knows. Depends on how damaged it really was, I would guess.
