i'm not sure what is more depressing. the fact that i was listening live about 15 years or so ago when hoagland convinced art that there were cities buried under the soil on mars by pinging the surface with a laser and hoagland now using an imaging specialist who appears to be a guy that plays quake in his moms basement, or the fact that i am listening to hoagland right now.

NASA was trying to cancel Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) for the Space Shuttle because it had been flying for over 10 years. They wanted to free up money for Space Station. Congress chartered an investigation. The results said basically that they should not cancel it for Shuttle, and they should expand it for all NASA Programs. Senator Byrd was head of the Appropriations Committee. He told NASA that if they were going to do something new, they were going to do it in his state. Now there is a NASA IV&V Facility in Fairmont, WV.
