James Burke for those unfamiliar.

Thanks SFA... Great clip. I was at the first attempt to launch Discovery. STS-41D. It is the only time they lit the main engines and had to shut them down before they lit the SRBs. Scary few minutes at the VIP viewing area until we knew they got the crew out safely.

The rest of the show was very enlightening.

James Burke tonight. That's promising -- Burke won't stand for any torsion field bullshit.

Wow, I am amazed, I will definitely listen to tonight.  Connections was probably my favorite television show as a kid, awesome how they would start out with something mundane like the invention of the stirrup for the horse-saddle and trace that innovation to the invention of the microwave oven, with several steps in between.  I hope Hoaxland attempts to one-up that type of technological progression with his 19.5>torsion-field>accutron>glass-moon-domes>Face-on-Mars kookological progression of his own devising.

I may even stay sober.  I am Not Sure if this is a joke or not...

I know, it's been a busy day of recording for me. I don't usually grab two shows in a day, let alone keep most of the OSOM shows I do grab.

lol FFS someone is gonna pump in 700 million to get the SS United States but sailing

On further review, I think I may have a Beam and Coke or three while I listen to the Hoaxmaster lecture Burke on torsion-field science.  I have a finger or two left in the handle of bourbon and more than enough Cokes.

What a day, indeed!

Such a waste of money.

Yes, they should divide it up amongst all the ships that need to be restored.

Which is absolutely zero. There is nothing of value on any of those ships.

I know economics can be baffling, but I hope you realize that they aren't just going to wallpaper the ship with dollar bills. That money is going to be used to pay people to do work. That creates jobs. Then those people take their paychecks and spend money in the neighborhoods, helping to create other jobs. And this is a bad thing how?

Oops, Sis. 16 and 51. Your grip is slipping. If I could only remember the code word. They may have to start the Revolution without me

mmm.

For what it is worth, there is a slim chance hoagie can do better tonight.

I understand economics far better than you and know that the money could be used to create jobs that actually help the public good. No one gives a shit about these ships. It's a waste of money that could be spent doing far better things.

That's why we let you be queen of the thread.

But it does seem like someone gives a shit or they wouldn't be spending their money on it.

It seems to just be an option, rather than a buy, while they do their feasibility studies. This has happened before, I think Norwegian bought it for that purpose years ago, but it wasn't feasible.

yep 700 million can do a lot of good    in better places  i agree          if you've seen one boat you've  seen them all plus the funds needed every year to maintain it  after its restored

so should we blame hoagie   lol

Yeah, considering it's been sitting there rusting for decades.

We've crossed parallel universes
Sister Tiger, they're doing a remake of Ghostbusters with an all female cast this time. Kristen Wiig will be starring.

I was hoping it would be an age of sail ship.

If wiki can be trusted it still holds the "Blue Riband" some sort of award for the fastest passenger line.  Also it was built with the express purpose to be quickly converted into a fast troop-ship.

It certainly has some historical significance.

I'd take a trip to Europe on it.

I have some interest in ships that old. Currently all of the survivors up until 1860 are restored. There were some serious heartbreaking losses though in the 20th century.

might be part of why i like Master and Commander(need to read the book) and less part of why i like Black Sails...i would say Horatio Hornblower but he was off his ship..a lot

Yeah, I don't care for her either. Plus remakes are generally not as good as the originals. They just don't seem to have the chemistry. Once in a while you get a good one though.
