I still get dropouts several times an hour with any of the KCAA streams (direct or via tunein) so those streams need to be beefed up to handle the larger number of users.
However tonight I see the AM First Radio website now has its own stream that can play in a PC web browser or via an app that can play a shoutcast stream from a .pls file (like Winamp) and that stream has been steady for the last hour for me, maybe it has fewer users since its not as known?
I wish they would put that stream up on Tunein too so I could use it on my smartphone, not just my PC.

they are using atleast 4 streams at shoutcast to split the difference. last night the primary one had about 200-300 users connected, and another hundred among the other ones.

Thats what I used before and it was still getting some dropouts too often for me, both on my PC and smartphone and via the Tunein app.
Only the new AM First Radio stream I tried tonight has had no dropouts (other than the guest's Skype dropouts) in the past hour for me.

You have a link?
There is a clickable link at the am first radio website and its also the same stream linked at Hoagie's website on its "ON AIR" link.

This one has never given me a single dropout: http://lv_amfirst.streamingvideohost.com/lv_amfirst--broadcast1

The KCAA stream dropouts stop or are significantly reduced for me in the 2nd hour of the show compared to a lot in the first part of the show the last couple nights and tonight. Maybe the load is reduced as the show goes on during the night as some listeners fall asleep?

Yep thats the new AM First Radio stream that I have tried tonight - no dropouts for me in the last hour at all compared to the KCAA streams.
To bad the AM First Radio stream isn't available on TuneIn as well so I could use it on my smartphone as well as my PC.

Can see the numbers here: http://stream.kcaastreaming.com:8000/
Seems like most people switched to the mobile one now instead of the 128k which gives them more bandwidth...
It seems like these idiots use a 3-4mbit line for both the live streams and the archive downloads... When the servers was not busy with less than 10 listeners I got just above 300KB/s in download but now when they have hundreds of listeners i get like 10kB/s :P

About tunein dropouts.. Wonder if they are just restreaming from that crappy kcaa stream. Considering how they share the bandwidth with the archives it would not surprise me if they did that.

trostol

hey fantastic they wanna put this guy on the list

Nasim's constant UMing is driving me crazy, I'm about to tune out already.

300 listeners.

Boy, Hoagland sure is kicking Heather's ass!

I am sure Keith is kicking himself for not doing whatever he could to keep such talent!

On a stream that cannot handle even 300 listeners. Most people would actually be smart enough to press the listen link on theothersideofmidnight site which directs you to amfirst stream.
If MITD was doing so much better, then why has it been 20mins since even #dmtalk has mentioned the show?? Where are all these listeners hiding exactly?
And these guys were still supporting the show long after Art Bell quit on it.

Edit: and since you love talking about stream numbers of just one specific stream.. By your logic OSOM crushed Heather even in the early days. Just a few weeks after Art Bell left the dark matter stream actually grew and had more listeners when Hoagie came on.

Compare how that thread dies when Hoagie comes on. In both activity and guest lurking.
