See amazon.com for starters.  He has some real enemies on there.

But welcome.  I lurked for about 6 months before joining.  Now it's my favorite board.
I haven't looked there in a while but I was thinking during the show how several times he mentioned "not to buy his books on Amazon but from his website or publishers website", supposedly because of the high prices, but, maybe it could've been due to some of the reviews there?

I like him as a guest with Knapp and they can draw out a good tale and unlike other guests he hasn't come right out with a zany explanation ("its UFOs" "its Bigfeet" etc) but leaves it open to guessing (and likely more books and shows.) I don't listen to C2C for an education anyway but for good radio and when Knapp is on it usually is, with Dave not-so-much except for laughs and guffaws.

I think that he may have a distorted notion about how widespread these occurences are.  Just think, how many people use national parks, national forests, wilderness areas like the Bob Marshal, etc. every year.

The national parks actually have a pretty big police force that is used for busting people for drugs often. They have companies that run the stores and clean the hotels. Many of these operators on National Park land use minimum wage employees they bring in from all over (Asia) etc and they have problems with drugs or assaults and more.

For example, there is an actual court and judge inside Yosemite NP and one in Flagstaff that services Grand Canyon NP.

Just catching up on the show and GK has just asked if law enforcement or the people that disappear might be under mind control. Mind control might be forcing people to wander away from camp.

What if these people are disappearing from Quantum Entanglement causing openings into other universes? These people then walk into the entrance to the other universe.

ACE of CLUBS

Google'd ..... David Paulides
Noory and David ...... twins ?

Amazon.com ........ lots of bad/critical comments on his 'research'
Interesting reading !

That's a pretty fancy way of asking "Is it a portal?"

I can only say I took the bait, the line and the sinker first time I heard Paulides on with Knapp. I've bought a couple of books. Always gripped by it. It's weird beyond weird, and if Paulides is not on the level, as some here are suggesting, he's doing a damn good job and would seem to be investing an inordinate amount of time and money in perpetuating a fraud.
As to 'Paulides Fatigue', I was aware of that when he was on with Noory. Back with Knapp last night, I found it riveting from start to finish again. Most noticeably, with Knapp the speculation about who are what 'it' might be is kept to a minimum. With Noory that was a constant theme and Paulides allowed himself to get pulled down the portals/demons/aliens road too quickly.
So please, Mr P, stick with Mr K.
And thanks to GK for two nights of professional, grown-up radio for intelligent people as always. Now back to The Suck before another oasis in the desert next weekend (but not UFOs, I hope. That's the only real 'waste' of a Knapp night for me, GFP, but that's just my own personal predilection).

Still with you.
Hopeing to throw in my depriciated $0.000000002 cents worth.
Includeing some caveats on Mr.P's claims:
"It's sureley not cereal killas in the parks, that's not possible with so many disapearances."
(Sorry for the misquote,i was answereing nature's other call and couldn't clearly hear this sentance about possible phenomenae behind the mystery.)
Maybe he never gurgled for the infamous series of yet un solved murders/disappearances in ecotopia nw.such as the mom-daughter slayings near granite falls,wa.an few years ago...
Not an good sign to validate his(Mr.P.)research skill level.
And,the unsolved Fish Head beach slaying by the Russ R.in Kalif.yust an decade back, possibly obvuscated by local yokel constabulary.
Zo,i'm going to include here some totally not pertinent background links from the general gist of the ancient root of the mysterious material basis(Vide:"Invocation of Bartzabel",via 'A.Croweley-possibly in,'Book 4') whom haunted the sixties seventies scene in kkali.

It's hard to argue with that logic.

Knapp makes Noory seem like a complete amateur. Couldn't agree more with you guys about that. If he ran the show I'd still be listening to Coast.

I'll have to think on some of these criticisms. Fortunately they don't detract from the enjoyability of the interviews. What really strikes me is the unverifiable stuff (which is what is truly striking about most things worth thinking about). The story about the child disappearing from an open field with adults directly nearby probably hits me the hardest. No matter how you interpret this disappearance it is particularly disturbing. And if the child's guardians were telling the truth (and either they or Paulides didn't make up the details), then it goes a long way towards establishing that sometheeeehn is haphuning.

This is exactly what I think too.. After a weekend of KNAPP--coherent and cool shows with a guy who knows how to create cliffhangers before commercials and be a little creepy when he needs to, Nores came back. And I tuned in for a second on Monday, and NOORY was attempting to ask the guest something like 'If there is an afterlife, and a heaven, then is there also a hell?' The guest, probably crazy anyway, saw this question as completely lunacy.

I really enjoyed the Paulides show.  I've known from his first show that he's most likely not on the up and up.  Big hint is that he's broken his stories into 4 books @$25 each, available only at his website.  Not to mention that he just sounds like he's full of bs.

BUT, he's gotten better with practice, and I've gotten better at suspending disbelief and just enjoying the creepy possibilities that there's "sometheen out thar" as Dave would say.  Fun to listen to the campfire stories.  Pass the S'mores.  ;)

My sentiments exactly!  Yesterday morn I  staggered off to work groggy, but happy, much unlike after a night with the "other" George,  which is usually results in a walk of shame.

Yes, I think so.  I have a tendency to zero in on 1 star reviews on amazon, because they are more entertaining, I will admit that. I just skimmed because I was kind of in a hurry but there was one user who had a long, long, long 1 star review of one of Paulides books--he clearly hates his guts.

And I think if theres a money issue it's because Paulides thinks he can get more money out of people selling directly.  I haven't looked for his books on eBay, but they may be going for even less there.

yumyum ..... if you get a chance to read that long 1 star review ...... it's worth the read.  There are others also, but not as in-depth as the one you mentioned .....

The big difference for me is when I accidently fall a sleep during the Knapp show I wake up a bit upset that I missed the conclusion of the show. When I fall asleep during Noory show I consider it a blessing  :D

There's a very good and balanced three star review of Missing 411, North American by a retired UK doctor, which received high marks from the critical side. Some of his quibbles were over chapter composition, rather than the content of the book and others were that he didn't provide any speculation for the disappearances. He also questioned the connection between missing women of the same age and appearance 34 years apart. He gave Paulides full credit, though, for combing through all the stories and collating a fascinating archive of disappearances. I also noticed that the book itself was not offered on Amazon, but was offered through secondary sources for $85. I think Paulides might not want to pay Amazon for selling his book and went the independent route, which makes sense.

This is exactly what a great interview should do.  I do like the stories, and if even a percentage of them are exactly as described it is creepy.  I don't believe in it enough to take his advice and carry a firearm, GPS and always go in groups of two or more when travelling into the woods (I think that was his advice on how to avoid  ending up in his next book...)  However, the interview was great and I look forward to his next appearance.

Oh, and I look forward to the double dose of Knapp this weekend as well.  Somehow even a a week of suck there is the happy memory of last weekend and the promise of the weekend to come.

BobGrau

I'm mostly a Paulides 'fan', in that I enjoy the shows he's on and would like to think he's legit... but.

He mentioned in passing that these disappearances have taken place in Scotland... sorry Dave, that's bullshit. I take a great deal of interest in such things around here, since well before I'd heard of this phenomenyawn. The Scottish hills are a surprisingly small place and people who go missing are always found. Not necessarily alive and well of course, but any unusual circumstances would stick out like a sore thumb - particularly with our rabid story-starved local media. Where's yer examples Dave? Oh let me guess they're in the books. Disappointing.

Unless he's talking about the guy in the business suit back in the sixties - but this has been pretty thoroughly debunked.
Hmm, guess I should go link hunting now... probably find out I'm completely wrong.  ::)

KNAPP WEEKEND......... ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

Knapp is top notch but tonight's 2nd half topic is going to be a yawnfest, no offense to you Star Wars fans. I liked the originals, (but that's about it) but not enough to hear it discussed for 2 hours. What a waste of Knapp.

I know........I agree.......not a big Star Wars fan either.  But, if anyone can make it interesting, Knapp can!   ;)

Knapp show sounds cool tonite, I'm totally up for it.  And even the Star Wars part could actually be good - give it a chance.  I remember some show I saw on History or Discovery which discussed the movies' mythological themes and it was surprisingly interesting.  Disclaimer: I admit as a kid I was a fanatic about everything SW  (but have long since lost all interest after what happened with the later movies and all the commercialism etc.)

I'm feeling like a scirocco tonight.

Ooooh entanglement/spooky action at a distance, one of Art's old favorite topics :)

Bill AAA makes a call.

Gassy Man

George Knapp is the only host with any class anymore, but that jackass Bill still gets on.

Bill from West Hartford called in to remind us he's still an amateur astronomer and rational athiest.  He also babbled on about the bible and Pluto and oh frig who cares shuddup already dude.  Note to Bill the AAA:  Pick a question, ask it, and let it go, bro.

I agree 100% with you.  I liked the first 3 films but I'm not a fanboy. Actually I remember seeing the first film in the theater when I was 11 and I thought it was silly though I grew to like it in later viewings.  I thought C3P0 was a bit effeminate and paired with R2D2 , it was all too cutesy.  I hated Princess Leia's hairdo. Best things about the film were Guinness, Vader, and Ford.

Bill from West Hartford says he's an amateur astronomer so he knows astrophysics.  I don't think that necessarily follows.
