Close, but not quite.  Irish coffee was "invented" at the Foynes Seaplane Port, not far from the Shannon Airport.  ...

There's a bar in San Francisco which makes the same claim, but I always doubted it.  However they probably did invent the ten dollar version.

Ha!  Almost sounds too cheap for the San Fran airport now.

The first guest lady almost sounds like a younger LMH.  Must be the Utah dialect.

Close, but not quite.  Irish coffee was "invented" at the Foynes Seaplane Port, not far from the Shannon Airport.  There is a museum at the seaplane port now, the Irish coffee story is a big party of their display. Always loved flying in/out of Shannon, great place for an aviation buff to airplane watch.  Was really cool back in the day when all the Eastern Bloc a/c stopped for fuel when flying those thirsty Soviet built airliners.
I stand corrected. Though still abide by the 'extra' in a coffee is not a one place invention. I never watched many planes there but, again you might correct me, but wasn't that the 'first' free-trade zone (let's ignore Haneastic League or stuff!) Speaking of plane-watching, the coolest airport was Schipol (because you would watch landing below sea-level and the various art and weird stuff like porn grab-bags in stores (you don't know what you got and would regret the choice but fun for a 'white elephant gift' at an office party. Would not ever take one back though, -lest US customs!) in duty-free and Eindoven where there was, at least before all the build up, a nice porch you could have a drink and watch planes land/take-off really close up.)

Good observation.... So far, not hearing anything new.

The story for Foynes makes sense.  Imagine passengers getting off those lumbering flying boats and being taken ashore by small, open boats in the cold, rainy Irish climate.  Is the SF bar you mentioned anywhere near where the Pan Am Clippers were based back in the seaplane era?

Only reason I keep XM is due to Elvis, Willie, Outlaw, Rural and OTR channels. Imagine my dream concert- Elvis with Leon Russell plinking away, maybe Willie plucking a few chords!!! But Leon and Elvis singing wouldve been great, really great.

Same with me though I'm more rock and roll oriented though I also am fond of classic country.  What was that Righteous Brothers song about a rock and roll heaven?  I thought it was kind of cheesy back in the day but as I get older, not so much.  Here it is.

Knapp and I would have a blast playing records.  His tastes are pretty much the same as mine.

Hmm ha I have no idea.  It's name escapes me now, it's over in the trendy Marina district.  In my days there I was too much of an aspiring counter-culture hipster to be spend much time in that neck of the woods.   :D

Never been to Schipol, sounds like I would have enjoyed it.  Don't know about free trade zones, but I know the duty free shop at Shannon was amazing.  Best duty free I've ever seen, I always told first time visitors to Ireland to resist the urge to souvenir shop while touring.  Buying at duty free was easier, cheaper, and a great way to spend left over Irish currency.

They did this on SNL, it was great.

That song and their cover of Hazy Shade of Winter rock. The latter from the Less Than Zero soundtrack as you well know.  ;)

Hi zeebs. Always a pleasure

I'm so sick of the pajamagram commercials.  If I hear about that sexy hoodie one more time, I'll throw up.

Honestly National is, or at least was, crazy. There was a park and even as a kid was thinking: you could chunk a rock. London City also

Roxette, She's Got the Look.  Another favorite of mine.

Yes, Hazy Shade was amazing. It was on the Less Than Zero soundtrack. Half of the soundtrack was horseshit, but the rest was great and it kicks off with one of the best ever tracks by The Bangles. In a Gadda Da Vida by Slayer was another notable song on there. It also had Public Enemy, LL Cool J, and the debut of Danzig predating their first album in 1988. All of the above were DefJam signed or Rick Rubin produced. This was 1987. Very interesting soundtrack though, except for the horseshit. I would like a vinyl copy, I think it had a gatefold. I have always had the compact disc and I still play songs from it often although it's compressed to my iPod or portable these days.

I forgot, Less Than Zero also contained one of Roy Orbison's final songs and the song was written by Glenn Danzig who just freshly dissolved Samhain. If you Youtube it, you might see Glenn/Rubin/Orbison in a slideshow if you choose the right file.

That's how I feel about the Carnivora fake interview. Of course, all Dave's interviews sound fake
