What are some good movies based in Ancient Greece?

I live the clash of the Titans, rise of Titans. . Etc.. What are some more movies like those? I especially love the Greek God's.. So anything with them... Man I wish they were real. . I hope they are

There was a whole crop of those movies out of Italy in the 60s called Sword and Sandal epics. Hopefully google-ing "Sword and Sandal" will get you some interesting movies to watch.

300 Spartans
Alexander
Jason and the Argonauts
Troy (Which is technically primarily set in Turkey/Asia Minor)

Also, any movie featuring one of the Alexandrian successor kingdoms... Ptolemaic Egypt, the Seleucid Empire, or the Antagonids, would be of direct Hellenistic descent.

Anthony and Cleopatra, and Rome from HBO both feature Ptolomaic Egypt.

As for the Seleucids or Antigonids, can't think of any... but if you see them mentioned on the synopsis of a movie then Bob's your uncle.

I could swear I saw one on SyFy. But that might've been Camel Spiders or Monster Scarabs, something like that. I suspect in any case it had some historical innacuracies. :

Alexander is so bad it will make your gonads ache.

Note that Oliver Stone pretty much hasn't been heard from since, at least in the film medium.

That was an absolute disaster, and it didn't help that Colin Farrell looked like Trey Parker in Baseketball. Although, the movie would have been tolerable if he'd delivered all his lines in Cartman's voice.

Stone aimed high- much too much too high. By this point, less is more in a sword-and-sandals epic.

And because this was such an overstuffed turkey, we will probably not ever get another movie made about one of the most influential persons in the history of western civilization.

I tried watching "Alexander" once. Couldn't get into it.

Side note: Alexander and his army had a sighting where several discs were seen in the sky. Some ran away in fear. Others tried to shoot the discs with arrows. The story seemed especially germaine to a forum devoted to Art Bell.

Woody Allen's "Mighty Aphrodite" isn't set in Ancient Greece but it does feature an Ancient Greek chorus.
