In short, all you right wing Putinistas who drooled all over Swaggerin' Vlad as this great leader were dead wrong.
He was, is, and ever shall be a feckless KGB gangster thug who clearly cares nothing for his country.

I think people wished we had a leader that loved his country instead of hating it, and woke up every morning determined to improve it rather than further undermine and destroy it.

They mentioned that quality about him, not admiration for the man himself.  Not that I'd expect people who think Obama runs a successful foreign policy to grasp nuance

I do admire the chutzpah it takes for an O-bot to criticize others though.  When do you think Barry will recognize ISIS, establish an embassy, agree to take their refugees, and shower them with aid?

Vladimir

Strange commentary coming from Paul Krugman, a world-class communist ass kisser.

Really?  Still going to stick with Vlad the Patriot?  Not going to concede his foreign policy is the reason his country is swirling the bowl?  You really think his arrogance and ego will permit him to alleviate his people's suffering?  I guess to a conservative that's "love of country."

Still going to pillory 'Bam's foreign policy?  Right.  We open up trade and a climate agreement with China.  Opening up relations with Cuba.  Drawing down American military involvement around the globe.  Crushing Putin with sanctions.

Don't know what set of facts you're operating with, but they could stand a tune up.

Never trust a commie, whether in office here or there. (*I use the term commie not in the sense of actual, theoretical communism but more in practice and cult-of-personality as we currently see in the USA and Russia.)
http://www.economist.com/content/global_debt_clock/
Russia has far less debt and are used to deprivation. And now cosy with China (too a point) so we can't exploit that socialist division as we used to in the old days. I don't want a war with them, unlike the Brzezinski/Kissinger/Neo-Con/Obama types. We can barely fight backwards Arabs and can't even secure our own border. Now want to secure the Ukraine's border? Or take on Russia? I don't want nuclear war and if anything Russia, if we would've handled the "end" of the cold-war better, should be our ally against Muslims, Red China, etc. Instead we let oligarchs, banker bullshit, Mafiyas, continued corruption, etc take over and then the backlash.

But with regard to Russia. They have been through a lot: Czars (and not the nice Obama-type Czars), Communists (and not the nicer Obama-type commies), warfare (real warfare, at home), pogroms, land seizures, starvation, etc etc. They can handle the down turn better than many of us. At least in some places. No doubt we would still, and can win, a war with them but it would be bad and we wouldn't hold their territory just leave wasteland.

At least Putin deeply loves his country, unlike our charlatan in the White House.

Zoo

May he launch the nukes to start World War III!!1

Kim Jung Un will be removed from power by the Chinese.  As punishment he will be forced to watch Pineapple Express repeatedly.  While sober.

Juan

Mr. Nowhere, I agree with your original position completely.

Yep; cover the bases. Allocate titles and identity tags as it suits. It's wrong of course, because Obama can't be a Marxist AND a Czar. A Czar (Tzar) was a king incidentally. Putin isn't a commie either; he's a manipulative despot who has fucked up what Gorbachev tried to bring to the Russian people. Oh, and he's the Russian mafia's ticket to 'respectability'. Obscenely wealthy criminals who masquerade as businessmen while the majority of the population are just as they were pre Gorbachev.

North Korea is a Marxist Kingdom

Say whaaaaaat?

It is a Maoist regime run by a family whose rule is hereditary - at least so far

It also seemed unusual when Raul took over from Fidel.  Let's see who the next commie dictator is in Cuba when Raul dies

It isn't a kingdom though. It's a despotic dynasty.

Speaking of Cuba, isn't interesting that the non-Marxist, non-Marxist sympathizer Barak Obama rushed to bail them out at a time when their Russian benefactor is running out of cash?  And got no reforms or promises of reforms, in fact nothing at all for the Cuban people.   He even handed them back their spies.

Same with the Islamic Terrorists in Libya, Egypt, Syria, and who knows what other help he's given our enemies we haven't heard about yet - if he's not a Marxist or a Moslem member of a terrorist group (hello Muslim Brotherhood), he may as well be

And the difference between a kingdom and a hereditary dynasty in this case is... ?

The clue is in KINGdom. Or more accurately monarchy. Most modern monarchies aren't despotic. But you knew that. Granted Thialand's is a bit dictitorial but at least it deals with spitting and chewing gum disposal in a reasonable way.

So it's the terms used then?  Not a king unless you call yourself a king?

No, that can't be right either - the regimes who claim to be 'Marxist', whose leaders have steeped themselves in Marxist theory, who have applied the revolutionary works of Marx to gain power, and who attempt to apply Marxist reform - you dispute them and say they are not Marxists or Communists at all, even though those are the terms they themselves use.

Yeah marxist shmarxist. Just as right wingers tell everyone how they're freedom luvin; those who claim to be Marxists (but more importantly claim to follow the tenats) often don't do as they claim. Convenience. Labels.

Everyone agrees Putin is a douche. Everyone agrees Obama is a douche. Both are common knowledge. This thread can now be added to everything falkie. As you said, case closed. Close it.

Anyone doubt that Putin is a fascist...read on. Some on this site not too long ago were singing his praises. No mention of alcoholics in the report though...strange that.
