George Sucks, but...

Started by Duckling Hunter, October 23, 2008, 01:15:57 AM

I began listening to Coast to Coast A.M. in late 2003 and early 2004. At the time I was a complete novice, I was still going to Church every Sunday, and I accepted every piece of information put in front of me. It was George who got the ball rolling for me, and I'll always remember him for it. I credit George for indirectly making my life better, I know some of you just puked in your mouth but..Listen I know some of you know and love Art in that way because he was your introduction to the paranormal and other uncovered materials by the mainstream, but George was mine,  he was probably a few others as well, and he'll continue to be until he retires. The man can connect to new listeners in a way others cannot.

But (*Reverse-But*), as I have grown as a thinker I have outgrown Comrade Noory, his child like questions piss me off, the more I listen the more WTF's I collect. His simplicity is why many people begin listening, but ultimately it is also what makes some hate him. George's true failure though is the disinterest he shows in certain Guests, if I can tell he is bored and y'all can tell I bet the Guest can tell. He just needs to be more engaged.

In retrospect my opinion on George could be best summed up as how many people see their father, as a child they see him as a hero, and as they grow they start to see the flaws and failures. I'm outgrowing him, so now I listen for the Guests.

(Extra: My favorite George moment was a year and a half ago, some sorry woman was put on the air, her first words were - "Is this George?", apparently George was due for some thrills, he wanted to get his jollies in front of millions, so he then preceded to tell her live on the air that he was the Call Screener and to practice telling her story, she did [BTW, it sucked] so George next tells her what to do when she gets on..Next George does the naming thing tells her she's on, you know. The women is taken aback and is like "Wait an effing minute, your the same guy", so George tells her that he's throwing her back to the screener, his screener personality tells her pretty much not to screw up this next time, so she reluctantly agrees to, and so he throws her back on to "Live Radio", there's more confusion, more WTF's, and overall the strangest clusterf*$k I've ever listened to over the radio. This is the point in time where I questioned the mans sanity.)

It took me awhile, too to realize George's buffoonery. I hadn't heard that many Coasts with Art Bell since I didn't discover Coast till about '03. At first I accepted George, but then I began to notice more and more WTF? moments, as you put it.

The final straw was the Jeremi Vaeni show where George was just flat out rude to Jeremy. This was after sounding disengaged throughout the entire interview and asking the now famous, "Are you sure it wasn't an Angel?" question after Jeremy went on for several minutes about an abduction experience he had had and a UFO that he and his mother and sister had seen in the skies. George then wondered if the UFO could have been an Angel and Jeremy might be mistaken about seeing a UFO.

WTF? I'm sorry, George. Are we keeping you awake? Maybe the guest can speak in hushed tones so you could go back to sleep.

You've summed up exactly how I feel on the matter very eloquently.

Noory is great and fresh if you're not already into the paranormal/UFO/time travel/psychic/ect stuff. He asks all the initial questions that a "newbie" to the subject matter would ask. But then he just keeps on asking the same old questions, and bringing the conversation back down the same old trodden trail. Stumbling upon GN would be fascinating for awhile, but once you've been saturated by either a really good guest or one of Art's shows, you start to realize George's major flaws.

See, we generally assume GN's hardcore fans are just mentally deficient or something, but in reality they may just be really new to the scene and haven't had time to let his flavor "sink in".
