I know little to nothing about how the radio talk show business works but it does seem to be an overcrowded field. Many are changing format and not doing well. It seems that only the really well established talk shows are secure. I still don't see how George stays on the air. I'm not picking on him- I've just listened/seen enough of his work to know that I don't want to see or hear more.

I don't listen to sports shows but these guys have good voices and are articulate. Unfortunately, their numbers weren't good enough. Shabby way to treat employees- I don't blame him for being upset. Not sure if that will harm his career.

Honestly, I'm surprised ANY radio sports talk shows keep their jobs. It's absolutely the most mind numbingly awful form of talk radio, even if you like sports.

From what I hear on our biggest local station- political talk is king. They start the day with a local talk show and then move on to Beck, Rush, Hannity, another local show, then Mark Levin, Clyde Lewis- then George. Weekends are the only time they branch out into economics and sports. So overall, pretty limited topics. Clyde and George appear to be the only departure from the rest. This could work against George if he tries to go too political. He may place above a few of the lesser known shows but they could easily take his place if he drops his paranormal radio format. That still is his core audience- isn't it? It might be interesting to see this play out. William F. Buckley, Jr.- he ain’t!!!!

Sports talk always seems to be hurting for content. A lot of our local sports guys sound like they absolutely despise their jobs and the callers. I used to be able to listen to sports talk, but it turned into the same old complaining and speculation after a while. Now, the only time I put it on is as background during the NHL trade deadline or if I can't catch the NFL draft on TV.

Our local market had a bunch of stations switching to the sports talk format. Some stations had maybe 4-6 hours of local content and the rest was national stuff. I often wonder how these folks stay afloat.

Noory is probably tired of his format, but values the company and/or the paycheck too much to quit. It shows in his halfassery. Jimmy Church is starting to sound like it too, speaking of sports radio guys...

Agreed.  I catch sports here and there, and usually get caught up in playoff season or whatnot, but  gawd these daily sports-talk shows, that go on for hours, I just cannot fathom listening to.  I mean discussing the nuances of some coach's trivial decision of some inconsequential game, for like an hour.  It's actually impressive they can generate time-fill content and get callers who care that much about nothing.

I kinda liked Petros and Money.  Kinda sucks that Fox Sports Radio replaced them.

One of the stations I get still does "Tradio" when Glenn Beck is on.  People call up that are looking to buy/sell stuff.  Kinda like Craig's List without a computer.

Is it really that rare? Come to think of it, I remember a really popular local guy getting fired and replaced by Glenn Beck- probably when Clear Channel took over. People were really pissed. The big syndicated shows have pretty much taken over. We do have a local pair in the morning drive slot. Good talent, funny rapport, good interviews. The woman also fills in on the local TV news show from time to time. They were a big improvement on the old am guy- think cheesy 50s game show host.

Since I started listening for them- they used to promote C2C regularly- I hardly ever hear a promo for the show now.

I agree. And I am a sports fan. Its fucking repetitive. Its the same as news radio. A story happens in sports and they carry on for days about it. It is truly awful radio.

We have a station here that changes regular programming so they can repeat what happened during our college football game. Its usually on for four hours. Longer than the game. Its a statewide radio channel. I think they carry coast too. Either out of Lincoln or Omaha. But fuck me, it got old.

Im lucky in my market I have a strong AM that has local hosts in AM, drive-time, and weekends. But the usual political syndicated Rush during midday. Oddly they have now started replaying C2C at 7pm instead of others (have had Clark Howard, Beck replay etc.) A weird choice but, I guess already paid for so repeat free or cheap? Also cutting local stuff more and more on weekends for infomercials (I think paid real estate shows, some car guys who talking selling cars n dealers, etc.) But still has gardening show etc. And "firebrand" Alex Jones on Sunday (he Is a local-son-gone-mad.) So I wonder if their revenue going down. But, so far, kept strong local hosts n local issues and still does mayor debates, etc and statewide debates n local issues, so I like.
Ps: I like sports on radio. But not sportstalk. They all seem to copy this hyper style of talking and follow same format of "takes" and crap. Most never played and analysis is weak and boring.

I couldn't agree more.  Even worse is when you're trying to listen to a regular talk show and all they keep coming back to sports over and over.    KIRO is the Seahawks live cast station, so I'm not sure if it is about promotion or of the idiots on their various talk shows just want to discuss it, but fuck it is the last thing I want to listen to.

It's been my experience working in radio that when a listener complains, nobody gives much of a shit.

Back in the old, old days, when I used to bet games, I was a frequent listener of sports talk radio. Those shows can be very valuable source of information which gamblers can use to their advantage. I suspect that is why they exist. Believe me, there is a sizable under ground out there that listens to these shows for that exact reason

This I could see being true, but at the professional gambler level, they're listening for work, not entertainment.

I feel that way about most of George Noory's shows/guests honestly. Though I'm not impressed at all my Snoory himself.
