All things Health and well-being

I was going to post this link under the other marijuana thread, but I thought perhaps this could start a new discussion about what helps us stay/get healthy, different medications,  alternative medications, holistic therapies, etc.

I, for one, am excited to see  marijuana being used by veterans to alleviate pain and anxiety. I know for a fact it works, as I  now have 2 close friends -- both of whom are 100% disabled as a result of their time in Vietnam -- that use it daily( and illegally, unfortunately) with amazing results. I wonder if anybody else has a similar anecdote -- not even necessarily with marijuana

A perfectly prepared Big Mac keeps my anger in check.

Yes, I would definitely have to say that I erase far fewer jerks if I am allowed the occasional Big Mac - as long as it tastes "right," is served fresh, and there is a nice red wine at the helm.

In lieu of vintage ambrosia, I will accept a cane sugar Boylan root beer from my private stock.

If the Big Mac tastes wonky, the jerks at McDonald's get moved up the erasure target list.

In that way, a bad Big Mac may instead be detrimental to my (and others') well being. But that's not my fault.

That used to be me, only it was Popeye's fried chicken that tamed my inner savage beast.

LOVE Popeyes fried chicken! But I don't get there anymore, it's way on the other side of town.

Do they still have Church's fried chicken? I used to eat that back in the day, too. I think they had a standing deal of 8 pieces of thighs and legsfor $3.99 or something.

I like Olive Oyl's Olive Oil dipped chicken fingers.  It's better for my blood vessels.

This would have been a great thread but you no doubt FAT FUCKS have turned it into a junk food extravaganza.

Sleep with one eye open I say.

I get my Chakras vigorously rubbed once or twice a week... If I don't rub out some of the old Silaps on a routine basis  I find my Regnants are all to fuck for the rest of the month and that's no laughing matter, I can tell you.

Oh, and I drink.

Well, you know how these threads can take random twists and turns.

I will tell you one thing that has helped me over the last few years deal with  severe arthritic  pain in my joints that came about from all the physical trauma I suffered earlier in life.  I occasionally go on a prolonged water fast. After 15 - 20 days of fasting, I feel fantastic. The inflammation is basically gone.

As a disclaimer, just be sure you you know what you're doing before you undertake a fast of that length, or  be under physician's supervision.

I did a ten day fast not too long ago.  Mostly an emotional response to some circumstances I was experiencing.  I wasn't that hungry but I was afraid of becoming too weak to do everything I needed to get done.  I decided to get some broth but couldn't stop eating after that.  It's a dangerous way to come off a fast.  Ten days probably isn't a worry but you can do some serious damage to your organs if you don't spend a few days slowly introducing liquids and then solids as I'm sure, unlike me, you are smart enough to do.

I'm one of those who didn't really know what I was doing.

I made the same mistakes the first time I tried a fast. Subsequently, I learned how critical it is to prepare for a fast, mentally, physically and emotionally.

a good metaphor would be how one might go swimming. For instance, when I enter a swimming pool, I first dip my large toe in, then my ankle, then I sit down and put my legs in, and after a while I step in up to my waist, etc., exiting the pool, I tend to move slowly, and then spend some time drying off and getting warm.

In other words, leading up to a fast one should only partake of whole raw foods that are full of fiber, and drink more water than you're used to, for at least a week, maybe longer. And then you may even want to go a few days on just fresh juice. After that you're probably ready for a prolonged water fast.

Coming off the fast, it's absolutely vital that you reintroduce food VERY, VERY slowly. For a couple days only watery fruit...a few bites every few hours. Slowly transition to vegetables and fruit, be extremely careful not to eat too much. About that time, one should start exercising lightly to awaken the metabolism. Post-fast transition should last at least 1.5X as long as the fast.

That formula has worked wonders for me.

I rub one out a couple of times a day.  It takes the edge off, if you know what I mean.  Keeps me mellow.

I'm going to say this three times:

Updated erasure list. Got a map. I'm warming up the rusty truck and checking the tool kit.

I get regular audits to control those pesky clusters of body thetans.

no, no more Church's Fried Chicken around here. They left years ago. And if they were here it would be much more than three dollars for eight pieces, it would be more like $14-$16.

When the Smothers Brothers had their show, they were hassled so much over trivial matters by the network censors they invented a meaningless phrase, "Rowing the boat to Galveston," that they occasionally slipped into early drafts of scripts just to drive the censors crazy, because they automatically assumed it had something to do with sex or drugs.  Sometimes the SBs were able to keep something they really wanted in a script by pretending to reluctantly agree to remove the "Galveston" line.

The secret to a long, healthy life is to eat White Castle hamburgers once a month.

I grew up eating those tasty little suckers, and people either love them or loathe them.  There is no middle ground.

I blame our permissive society and inattentive parents.

Are we discussing Church's Fried Scientology?

(Every time a Scientology joke is made, the baby Tom Cruise cries.)

o,IC. Yes, now that you mention it that does sound familiar.

There is no such thing as too much garlic.  It's one of my major food groups, along with olive oil, Triscuits, blue tortilla chips slathered with sunflower butter, and tequila.

Speaking of tequila, has anyone else tried Altos?  It hit the shelves in my area a couple of months ago, and changed my life considerably for the better.  It's as smooth as any I've ever tasted and costs about a third of what they charge for the so-called premium brands.

Went to IKEA today and had the swedish meatball plate with salad. I don't know how healthy that is but damn do I feel awesome right now.

On the subject of the OP ... I very rarely drink soda or fruit juice.  They're both a sugar delivery system.  You might think that OJ or grape juice is super healthy but it's mostly just sugar with a dose of vitamin c.  Which isn't to say vitamin c isn't important.  It is.  You just need to find a way get that into your system without ingesting a heap of sugar.

Will try that. I enjoy trying different tequilas... ranging from the fingernail polish remover variety to the beautifully smooth - to be sipped and relished, not shot and forgot - brands.

Were they to come out with a garlic enhanced tequila, I'll be on board for at least one bottle.

I can't get enough garlic and am of the opinion it is extremely beneficial to one's health.

Agree. People who shoot a glass of OJ at breakfast might do less shock to the system if they ingest protein a few minutes prior to the OJ, to hopefully lower OJ's high glycemic index.  I always save the OJ for the end of the meal.

I'd like to try it in earnest but I don't think I have that kind of self-discipline.

I grew about ten varieties of garlic this year, along with a few more I'm preparing for next year.  I didn't know when to harvest though so left them in the ground too long, and now they're kind of a mess.

Altos is "sip and relish" tequila at polish remover prices, although it also makes a nice shot.  And now I'm wondering what it would be like to take a bite of garlic instead of lime after a shot of tequila.  Might have to do some research on that later in the week.

The problem is that now that I have learned to like garlic and spent all this time and money sourcing different varieties -- with plans to make a marketable 100-mile salsa -- I've read that garlic is possibly toxic.  It doesn't respect the blood-brain barrier, apparently, so your body does everything it can to eliminate it -- ejecting it out your pores and everywhere else.  Fortunately the science on this is more anecdotal than anything very solid.
