Because he was the guy who cause when they were claiming, incorrectly, that he was "Ivan The Terrible." ]Though he might have been a prison guard (he died, I guess, legally innocent of that charge also.)]It is a long, convoluted tale of mistaken identity, citizenship issues, extradition events, multiple trials, Soviet antics, claims and counter-claims, etc. But quite famous and Traficant was one of the few saying that an American has civil rights even if accused of being a NAZI and spoke about his case on the Floor and in the press.

Yep, being a closeted CSPAN fan, especially when we had interesting politicians like Traficant etc or Iran-Contra hearings and interesting stuff on it, I recall the speeches regarding it. But, speaking of which, Traficant would've been a great guest on C2C (with Art.) It would've been a great interview. Art had several politicians on (usually of the libertarian or constitutional parties or bent) but Traficant would've been good- because he could cover everything from illegal (and legal) immigration (a pet peeve of Art's), to NAFTA etc (another of Art's), to various conspiracies, and the IRS (another Art peeve.) So I hope Congressman Traficant gets better and Art comes back and he interviews him. He would have even more things to say post-prison and post-tractor accident and hospitalization....maybe even a NDE or Obamacare experience or it was really a "hit" by someone? Who knows! Get better soon Congressman!!
