Your high dudgeon is noted but it's far more likely they'll get a good laugh.  I once saluted a 2nd Lt loading his groceries in the commissary parking lot and he returned it with a Sara Lee pound cake in his hand.  Four years in, and that's the only salute I recall.  The now fashionable fawning over the military (and all this phony "warrior" bullshit) is a perverse overcompensation the post-Vietnam guilt.

Of course this is another reason to hate Obama. Politicians are politicians the world over. They're all awkward with few exceptions (namely military based politicos) around the military. The military know and often exploit it by pissing about when the suits turn up. The planet won't stop. You can bang on about it ad infinitum or grow up and move on.

His nonchallant approach to men who are there to protect he and his families life sums up his 2nd term perfectly. Dude has been shipping in his 2nd term for 2 years. Other than pushing through Obamacare which has done and will do nothing for people to get healthcare, and only keeps the economy in a depression, he's done nothing in 6 years. Just party and fundraise. What a guy.

This is the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, for crying out loud! Wouldn`t you think he`d at least make some effort to understand the traditions and customs of the same folks he`s sending into battle?

Is it a huge issue? No. Does it make a difference in how our warriors fight? Of course not. It`s just one of those things that gnaw at you. It looks really bad and the fact that he, and his staff, didn`t even flinch, tells me a lot.

Obama could likely care less about the Marine currently being held and abused in a Mexican jail. Unless you are an illegal alien, some member of a minority group, or have some type of sexual deviancy (or have lots of money to donate) he could less about you. Most US citizens and people in the military seem to be held in a particular disdain by this guy.
ps: I recall thinking when Obama insulted corpsman "how can this guy supposedly be a Harvard Law graduate or get elected President, he doesn't even know how to pronounce words."

I have to give some people credit on this forum. They have to be exhausted carrying Obama's water, day and night. Yet, they are relentless. That kind of cultish idolatry doesn't come around very often. So, it's very impressive to observe.

Many people invested a lot of emotional energy into this mysterious, and ill-prepared to be President, guy Obama. So his failings almost psychically hurt them. Nobody, of course, likes to have been taken advantage of but to the Obama adherents he is like some demi-god or religious figure. So they can't, without mental and spiritual anguish and struggle, admit he was not as they dreamed or "hoped."
