Saul Alinsky influence on contemporary Democrats

Started by FightTheFuture, September 22, 2014, 09:05:01 AM

A lot has been said about Alinsky, and some on this forum have discounted his influence on our current Democrat political class. This article, ONCE AGAIN, shows just how much influence the late community organizer wielded. Good stuff!

If his name had been Bob Wilson or Tom Smith, he'd be a non-issue to the right.

Good innit? I'd never heard of him until I came on here and found the right wing paranoids have vast libraries on him. So I looked him up, and discovered after half a page of reading about him, I had a kettle to de-scale and toenails to scrape the underside of. Far more interesting.

Alinsky was, except to the most inside political insiders, an unknown until the Far Right stumbled across a name like Saul Alinsky mentioned in Obama's book.  No more need be said to a conservative crowd than that name; as a matter of fact, it never is...the name is all that those people need hear to "get it".

Only political neophytes had never heard of Alinsky before ___(fill in blank)____. He`s been a menace to society for as long as I can remember. His dastardly influence spans the decades -- whether you have paid attention, or not.

I knew almost nothing about him until Newt Gingrich repeatedly invoked his name during the 2012 primaries to portray him as some sort of monstrous sinister influence on Obama, and found out he basically just didn't like to see people bullied and oppressed by those in power, no matter what their political and/or religious persuasion.  Of course, Newt let the name speak for itself and never mentioned any particulars, because he knows full well Alinsky wasn't some crazy commie revolutionary hell bent on destroying the U.S.

When asked during an interview whether he ever considered becoming a Communist party member, he replied:

"Not at any time. I've never joined any organizationâ€"not even the ones I've organized myself. I prize my own independence too much. And philosophically, I could never accept any rigid dogma or ideology, whether it's Christianity or Marxism. One of the most important things in life is what Judge Learned Hand described as 'that ever-gnawing inner doubt as to whether you're right.' If you don't have that, if you think you've got an inside track to absolute truth, you become doctrinaire, humorless and intellectually constipated. The greatest crimes in history have been perpetrated by such religious and political and racial fanatics, from the persecutions of the Inquisition on down to Communist purges and Nazi genocide.[4]"

That's some pretty dastardly stuff alright.

What Alinsky stumbled upon was a way to use the natural born belligerence and antagonism of a segment of society that does next to nothing for their society, much less themselves, as puppets to seize political power, without the puppets ever even knowing it, because they're just puppets  ::)

Nothing he espoused does a single positive thing for society, or any poor person in said society, all it does is hand political power to despots, and that is the real paradox of the left...

How very Alinsky of you - smear the opposition as racists to shut them up

I guess you haven't realized it yet, but that isn't going to work anymore.  We all know now that forever crying 'racist' is just a disgusting a Left-wing tactic (taught by you know who), and that it's the Left who uses race to keep us divided.

I like your posts Paperboy, but I'm having a difficult time rectifying how one would generalize all Muslims as being misogynist by default of their customs in one post (in the Duck Dynasty thread) and in the very next post accuse the left of trying to keep us divided... ?

Look no further than Ferguson Missouri to see the 'Progressives' in action, lying about what happened so they can further their narrative, making sure to keep things stirred up.

Offhand, I'd say the use of race by a sitting President and a sitting Secretary of the US 'Justice' Department, along with the likes of the Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton types, all with the full support of Big Media, polluting our body politic, more than offsets any damage done by a few lower middle class idiots.

Who knew that a lower middle class idiot like Richard Nixon would have been smart enough to conceive and implement the "Southern Strategy" that helped get him elected President?

In 1968 Nixon won Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Florida.  Humphrey won Texas (!).  The deep south states went to Wallace - Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, Arkansas.

If the Southern Strategy was about using racism to win the segregationist votes, he sure did a lousy job of it.

It's another Liberal Big Lie.  The Southern strategy was indeed an attempt to break up the Solid South from the grip the racist Dixiecrat Democrats had on it, but Nixon used traditional Republican strengths - the economy, patriotism, LBJs horrible handling of the Vietnam War, etc, not racism

Nixon was from California, the West Coast - probably the least racist part of the country historically,  He supported the various Civil Rights Acts of the 50s and 60s, and repeatedly denounced segregation.  The Republicans were instrumental in passing those Acts, while Democrats were filibustering them.  Does it make sense to you that he would then appeal to racism to win the South after all that, only to end up losing the worst of the segregationist states to Wallace anyway?

That is not surprising considering you live in another country. But he was influential here (I have several of his books, original. Like the military learning from various guerrilla insurgencies- knowing the tactics and enemy. Interestingly lots of the neo-cons etc used to be Trotskyites, supposedly. But same idea as learning from your enemy or adopting effective strategies, etc.)

You though better to look up things like the Fabian Society, The Tavistock Institute, Gramsci, Frankfurt School etc. Closer to your patch, especially with the EU crowd and since most of your laws and regulations now come from the Continent and have a special place in your politics. I think 3rd way of Blair was an interesting pseudo-Clintonian/Fabian scheme in fact.)

The Nixon campaign's Southern Strategy included ceding the Deep South to Wallace, which was fine with them because they were more concerned about winning the southern border states.  You can look it up, and afterward maybe you could explain why hardly any Blacks identify themselves as Republicans.

The answer is quite simple. Blacks and hispanics are heavily Democrat because they are the least educated. Therefore they are the easiest to exploit with empty promises.

Between the handouts for votes begun with LBJs 'war on poverty', the constant drumbeat about how 'racist' everyone but the Libs are, and Big Media backing it all up, are those voting patterns really a surprise?

By the way, look at the absolute horror created by that 'war on poverty'.

The 'Progressives' have complete control over our big cities.  There they control the government budget and priorities, the police, the court systems, the schools, and all the rest.  Just look at how awful the schools in minority neighborhoods are and the 'education' those kids get.  If they even bother to go to school.  Not to mention the crime, poverty, unemployment, blight, etc, etc.

Given that every single big city run by these people has the same basic issues, same problems, same dishonest policies, and none of it ever gets better, nothing is ever changed, is it not clear this is by design?  The mis-education is done purposefully in order to keep people poor, ignorant, and voting Democrat.  And as with anything, with the right rhetoric it gets a few otherwise intelligent people to go along with it and support it.

As an example. look at New York City.  When a very moderate mayor like Giuliani manages to get elected, it's interesting how a few changes in policy here and there have such a dramatic immediate change for the better.  Do Democrat mayors in other cities emulate that in order to change their cities?  No.  In fact as soon as NY got another Dem mayor, they did their best to undo what Giuliani accomplished.

Look at Chicago.  Barrack Obama climbed to the top of the corrupt Dailey Machine there.  To do so, he had to have been in favor of every single disastrous policy that got that crime and poverty ridden city to where it is today.  Yet these same Democrats thought he was just so much the right person to elect as President.  What, did they think imposing Chicago city corruption, management policies, and mafia style tactics on the whole country would give us a different result?

But hey, ignore all that.  Did yuh hear about Nixon's 'Southern Strategy'?

The saddest thing about your response is how many conservatives actually swallowed and hold this corrosive resentment; cultivated by 20 years of conservative talk radio that made it so very palatable to middle class.

LBJ, like anybody but especially politicians, was a complex individual. I know the Coasters say he killed Kennedy (and many other people) but also did care about poor people, blacks included (though, like many especially at that time, would use epithets and probably wouldn't like it if they moved next door.) Now whether some of his agenda (like "War on Poverty") helped or not over time is another matter. Clearly the ability to survive without working and the encouragement for housing, food, or funding (pre-Clinton reforms) to favor more babies and especially out of wedlock  babies was flawed. I wouldn't outright say it was a "plot" simply to get future votes or encourage black society and families to be destroyed.

Look at Los Angeles and South Central Los Angeles. Tom Bradley, African American Democrat mayor 1973 - 1993. Prosperity and education was doing so well they contributed heavily to the riots of 1992.

Maxine Waters, African American Democrat, distinguished member of the house of the US House of Representatives (Congress) since 1991 representing various districts in South Central LA.

Technically, marrying a 15 years old or teens or being attracted to them is not pedofilia but some other defect or at least term (I don't recall the precise term but recall hearing it in Psy 101 decades ago.)  Difference being post-puberty vs attraction to children. The former is a fairly acceptable- and marketed- mental condition even in Western culture (to wit the "edgy" modeling world and Hollywood) but especially popular in more backwards places like in Africa and the Middle-East.) Oddly, though younger marriage was much more common (even in Europe etc) in historical past, strangely, girls are reaching puberty at a much younger age now (cue: plastics, Big Pharma, GMO conspiracies here.) At least the  bearded duck-killer advocated marriage though. Our friends the "rebels," or illegals crossing the border, don't often marry them but prefer rape.

Yeah, maybe, I don't know the guy or watched the show, but certainly modeling and Hollywood seems to be pushing the envelop way too much. It is sort of odd. If they weren't a $$$ person or company they would be arrested in a sting with some of the product they put out. And they get more free press and advertising when they "pull" the "controversial" ad campaign etc after the news, pressure groups, churches, etc start complaining. And, in the next few months, do the same marketing campaign.
