i know I'm the worst speller on the board - but as you are in the USA now - you should know that it's not coloUr - it's color. 

And i don't think that's a nit-pick.  It's a real issue.

I don't care where I am! I hate myself when I leave out the "u".

A reasonable point of view- except for the fact that as English has become the international language of business -  American conventions of spelling and punctuation hold sway in that context.

It's a matter of color saturation (how deep the color is). I've taken to using Lime rather than Green for that reason.

We Americans don't speak English anymore, we have bastardized the language too much and have added many muliticultural words to the mix due to our 'melting pot' status.

It would be more accurate to say we speak 'American' rather than English (as a British ex pat and ex boyfriend once pointed out to me, and I agree wholeheartedly).

  Weeeeeellllllllllllllll --- okay - sort of. 
 
  Point taken but our essential linguistic framework is still English at it's core.  Yhe difference between British, Australian, Canadian, (not to mention Singapore - Jamaica etc . .)  is not, for example, as extreme as the difference between Spanish and Portuguese, which have legitimately become distinct languages.
 
  A lot of that has to do with WHEN these linguistic traditions separated.  There was no internet, or even printing press when the Portuguese began to differentiate from the Spanish.
 
  More - the English language is a melting pot of it's very own - with Germanic, Native Celtic, Latin and many more uncountable influences due to so many landing on what is, after al, only a smallish group of islands- powerful as they did become.
 
  Add the INFLUX to the OUTGROWTH as the British empire populated much of the world - adding terms and customs to it's repertoire  - and you have a MAJOR mess.
 
  I like to blame that MUTT background for my poor spelling.  It works as well as any excuse I suppose.
