Songs You'd Swear Were Done by Somebody Else

Here's a weird one.  "Blinded by the Light", which originally is by B. Springsteen, but the more popular FM radio version is by Manfred Mann's Earth Band.

I'm always trying to figure out if it's by ELO or the Moody Blues, but turns out it's neither.  It's a double fake-out.

Good one, Zeebo.  Yep, elements of both.

ELO or the Moody Blues borrowing Pete Townshend's Moog synth from "Who's Next" for the intro.

My sister loves "Movin' Me Down the Highway" by Billy Joel*

*it's better known as "I Got A Name" by Jim Croce.

It's almost as good as "Born to be Wild" by AC/DC.   *

* actually, Steppenwolf.

You're right, Manfred Mann does sound like the Moody Blues, with a dash of a Toto thrown in:

I always though White Punks On Dope was early BeeGees

The first couple of times that I heard '7 Nation Army' by White STripes, I thought, 'Cool, a new AC/DC song. I wonder what the album is called.

Whenever I hear Michael Penn's "No Myth" I think it's Crowded House.

Robin Thicke & Pharrell have to pay Marvin Gaye's family because the jury decided "Blurred Lines" sounds like "Got to Give it up". This is a weak verdict. Yes the intros sound kinda similar but they are not the same.

When is every band who used a cowbell since 1976 going to pay restitution for copying Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper". Or how about John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band for sounding exactly like Bruce Springstein. Sounding is similar is not copying someone else's music.

This is in regards to a musician, not a song. I thought that the singer/guitarist from the Foo Fighters kinda looked like the drummer from Nirvana.

Vanilla Ice opened for Public Enemy. That has to be to funniest thing I've ever heard. Well that and Vanilla explaining that Ice Ice Baby's base line is different than Under Pressure by David Bowie & Queen.

Oddly, I thought this was by Yes...

I've bought several 'greatest hits' albums over the years and from time to time am surprised to find a track that I guess I'd never really thought about who did it.

Burning For You - Blue Oyster Cult comes to mind.  Several from the Kinks.

I've been known to confuse some of the tunes from groups with high pitched vocalists:  specifically Supertramp, Styx, Yes

Was anybody ever ok with that Kenny Rogers did Just Dropped In?

He looks like the drummer from Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures

For the longest time I thought Uriah Heep's "Easy Livin'" was Deep Purple

I was shocked to learn 'Falling In Love With You' was our own George Noory.

All these years I thought it was Elvis

I believe this is where he picked up the nickname 'The Gambler'

Now that you mention it, I did too.  ???

I thought the Soprano's Woke up this Morning by Alabama 3 was by Fleetwood Mac for awhile I guess because it reminded me of Tusk. Kinda sorta.
