Comcast won't let me cancel

I suggest you listen to this if you have Comcast and seriously consider leaving this piece of shit company to anything else available.

I do recall AOL also doing this a few years in the past.
Cancel AOL

And Comcast is buying TWC and TWC also sucks a lot. Are there any decent cable companies out there? One that don't use "packages" and "limited time offers" as marketing strategies? They give gift-cards and deals to new customers- but ignore existing customers for these "deals?" Who don't tell you when you "free" 6months of Showtime is over so you get billed for it? And so on.
Back in the day there was a tape going around of a guy whose numbers was one number off of his local cable company, Dimension Cable, and he'd f*ck with people who called him in addition to other prank calls. Donald Wilson was his name, I think. I can only find this bit online now. Sorta like of the Roy D. Mercer some shockjocks made up.

They certainly did.  I've NEVER had an AOL account, but one of my credit cards got hacked a few years ago, and one of the charges was an AOL subscription.  Silly me thought it would be easier to just call them and cancel the account instead of going through my bank.

But I quickly learned the nightmare of their customer service when I got an offshore script monkey with the IQ of a brick.  No matter how many times I told this shithead that the charge was unauthorized, he tried to talk me out of canceling by hitting me with a slew of questions I couldn't answer since I never had a fucking account to begin with.

Pro-tip: whenever you get a CSR who's annoying/stupid/assholish/etc., save your energy and just hang up and call again.  The second (or third) time around, you will probably get someone more competent.

Sometimes you can get better service by calling the Espanol customer service numbers (or pressing 1 to get Espanol) and then speak English to them. They will often then transfer you to their supervisor (who can speak English and has more authority than the usual CSR.) Also, find escalated numbers, or local numbers, and call them. If they ask how you got this number just say "someone transferred me" or "from my statement." That will confuse them. Get transferred around enough they will likely not know how to got to them. Or if they transfer you back it might seem the call is coming from a higher authority.

But, if I got the time, I just break out a libation of choice, put on a ballgame on mute, and keep the CSR on the phone as long as possible. You can usually break their spirit or keep getting passed up, or along, the chain by simply being polite but firm. And they often get paid by # of calls per hour, so tying up their lines get them into trouble.

Sometimes it is fun to act confused, as if you don't understand them, and keep getting them to repeat themselves and reexplain (works especially with our Asian help-desk friends.) Frustrate them. Bring up billing when you are talking about a technical problem. Bring up technical problems whilst questioning a billing statement. Name drop the other CSRs you've talked with. Mention, in passing, how other companies offered you X to change services. Then be conspiratorially buddy-buddy with them "against their big company" or get them admit to something (works esp with talking with the technical people) then if they agree with something you said mention that you are recording the call. It can take dedication. But almost always with my cellphone and cable bill I can get some kind of charge reversed, discount, or something. But the key is dedication and remaining calm, not cursing or yelling. And call at least once a month and bitch, even if there is nothing to really bitch about.

ps: an easy way time waster (but actually shows you how much bs there is on your bill) is to go over your statement line-item by line-item with the CSR ("what is this surcharge?", "what is this Fed access tax?", "what am I paying for a modem and wall socket?", etc.) Go through it all and make them explain it. Act confused. Make them repeat. Sigh a lot. Never yell but use passive aggressive strategies. Make them think they sold you on new programming, new services, new equipment. ,more minutes, etc but never "say you agree", just sounded interested, and then, at last minute, say "no, I want to keep my plan as it is." Break their spirit by wasting their time and taking away any sales quota they might have gotten from all the time they have wasted on you. The customer is always right!

Comcast/xfinity sent me a legal letter claiming I'd been downloading torrents... though I can't say who is doing what on my unsecured wireless network, I'm afraid.

All well and goid, but rather than send ME a warning they sent it to my wife. And rathet than say, "Hey, someone downloaded a file/Terminator..", or whatever, the warning said, You downloaded 'Collosal H-cup titted college girl's dangerous creampie  party'... so don't do that because it's copywrite protected.

I cancelled Comcast and it felt sooo good.  It did take a while, they tried to scam me a few different ways... they really tried to get a few more drops of blood from me.  But I persisted and in the end I won out.  It did take a little bit of threatening to the idiot in the cubicle that was impeding my departure.  After it was over, I took a 10 foot branch cutting tool out to the power line in the street and literally cut my cable.  Cut it right off there at the power line.  Then I removed all the cable coming into my house.  Fuckers.

Afterwards, I signed up for internet service with Freedompop.  Silly name, but $18.99 a month for wireless internet.  It's great.  Not good enough for a netflicker but works fine for me.

Commie cast has become such a monster since they first started their Cable internet. It used to be a really good company 10 years ago, but throw a bunch of share holders in the mix, and eliminate the competition, then you've got 2014 Comcast.

I wish more of their stuff would get coverage, and more and more would just leave. Then Comcast would improve their standing.
The only catch would be NOT to give in and go back even years down the road.
