Agreed.  I don't read the NYT.   I have the crossword app and it downloads the puzzle every day.  The rest is only fit for lining the bottom of a bird cage.

No I wasn't aware of that.  Do you think that people that believe it is all of those things might be those that aren't able to do any of the daily puzzles except Monday's and half of Tuesday's? They do get progressively harder over the week. Just sayin,

I doubt they do them, they play that whatever jewel matching game on their phone. Having said that, like with Jeopardy!, I don't like pop culture references in crosswords and they do get tougher as the week goes by, having said that I don't like crosswords on my phone. I like to use a pen and paper copy. Not the same.

Yeah along those  lines, my earlier play on words, which you got, went right over the Canadians head.  So I'm going to spell it out for him here just to see if he's paying attention.

A.  Mick is a derivative of Mickey

B.  A Mickey Finn or Mickey is a knockout drop (usually chlorol hydrate) used to render someone unconscious for surreptitious purposes.  Thus the term slip one a Mickey.

C.  The offspring of Mick Jagger would be a Jagger.

D.  Wherein one might say that Jagger slipped her a Mickey, this would be a case of Mickey slipping her a Jagger. 

Admittedly it's a groaner but it's typical of American humor.   He didn't get the joke and he understood none of the references which are still current in literature, cinema and broadcast media.  Makes me think that he is from another culture.
