Same here.  I was surprised he didn't just do one to two nights a week when he briefly returned last year.  He told us he wanted to do more than that then started cancelling out several weeks into DM.  That's when I started wondering if he was going to do his disappearing act again.  As much as I enjoy listening to Art, I'm sorry, but he acts like a tease teen diva at times.  Oh, and Jorch still sucks.

The dude is pushing 70 and probably won't be around much longer.  I'd love to hear him and more than happy with podcasts. Hopefully he has realised that his caller-driven show format won't really work on the internet unless he wants the same handful of people ringing in each time. A weekly podcast or two with great guests would be epic.

My great grandfather lived to be 101 and looked 60.  He was driving around every day and in perfect health until a week before he died.  My neighbor is 90, looks about 60, and still does carpentry.  Art could be around a long time and I predict he will.

As for the podcast, Phil Hendrie also dumped radio and went into full-time poscasting.  So did Ed Schultz.  Phil claims there's far more money in it and no suits to answer to.

I think Art will likely be back, but probably on a more irregular schedule. I wouldn't be surprised if he does one or two nights a week, but on an as-announced basis.

He held on to a regular schedule for so long, why wouldn't he jump at the opportunity to make his own schedule and just do shows when he feels like it?

My ideal (though unlikely to happen) roster would include Art, Jimmy, Bateman, Knapp, with occasional spots by Schrader. It would be nice to have a female host or two, but it sounds like Rollye is getting through some things and I don't remember another female host who has impressed me as much.

If I'm not mistaken Art mentioned the origin of his back problem. I believe he said that it was the result of him falling off of a telephone poll when he was a lineman for a cable company, probably Cox, stringing up cable line in the early days of the cable industry. He said that he fell 15 to 20 feet straight down off of a poll one day.

I thought that Art and Ramona had his back trouble under control. They built an indoor handball court in their backyard so that Art could get more exercise. They found that when Art had lost weight his back problems also seemed to have decreased or disappeared.

If Art's frustration was truly with the Sirius streaming problems, he should be happy with DMRN - I have very little in the way of streaming problems there, but had lots with Sirius.  I still predict that Art will be on only a few days a week - two or three.

Radio and it's audience is not like it was when Art was in his prime. We live in a world with 20 second youtube clips and instant gratification everywhere. As I noticed with Dark Matter most of the callers and listeners were a small group of fans who listened previously. The audience would definitely need to be expanded but then you have to deal with big corporate if you want to go big time.
