IRS Says 'Lost' Lerner Emails...

I actually keep my .pst file on a separate encrypted drive, that gets backed up to a portable drive, so that IF my OS drive crashes, I do NOT lose my email archive...

I guess even I am smarter than the idiots in our government, or maybe I just have more integrity, or both...

Do you really think any emails were 'lost', or that the hard drives 'crashed?

(Note:  I'm pretty sure you don't think so)

Obviously not. With all the money we pay contractors in fat-cat contracts to archive and secure government databases and computers? With NARA office? With the NSA (and other agencies) monitoring, data-mining, and backup up everyone's emails, phone calls, and internet activity (or at least trying their damnest too?) They expect us to believe that they lost the emails from only this one individual under direct suspicion and Congressional investigation?? Ok, what about on the "sent" end of the chain? Search government and politician's computers for "sent" emails to her.

The IRS is obviously trying to dodge a bullet here.  Heads need to roll.  The IRS used to be highly efficient and well run.  I'm told that hasn't been the case since the late 60's.  We should reform the IRS and our tax code immediately.  A flat tax for people and corportations.  That won't happen because under the existing tax code GE doesn't pay any tax.  And that's why we're fucked.

explain to me the difference between having failed to follow the law vs breaking the law. really. i'm sure there is some legal twists that only work for other people, but that ticket is still gonna cost me.  ;D

it would be great PR for a corporation to push for a flat tax for all. one less thing they would be bitched at about. you are right in that it won't happen. how is it we are fighting over changing so many things, yet fail to fix the root cause of many issues connected to tax/government/irs. single page... double space.
i've been one of those that believes economics is a science. maybe i'm wrong. either way, my disillusionment remains.  8)

The government is being "influenced" by lobbyists who shill for corporations.  The only interest that Congress is concerned with is with corporate money.  Everything else can fuck off and die.  So companies spend millions so they can save billions in taxes.

Wow, I agree with something b-dubb said in a politics thread!  This might be a first.
When you and I can agree on something, b-dubb, there must be something to it.

I loved hearing Director Koskinen stand up to the hacks on the House committees who pass hundreds of new tax regs favoring the lobbyists who pass them checks, then cut the IRS budget.  His resume is as impressive as his manner under pressure; better than that of any of the assholes on the committees.  About time someone with balls and knowledge stood up to that creep Issa and his witch hunters.

Anyone who's done much business with federal agencies realizes how obsolete and worn out their cobbled-together IT systems are.

Wouldn't it be nice if we all agreed to focus on what we can do, united together, to clean out the disease in Washington, in BOTH political crime families - which to me means, every last cock-sucker there - instead of finding reasons to hate a FELLOW AMERICAN CITIZEN based on their personal political or social philosophies, then getting all pissed and hysterical when that very same medication comes back?

Hey, it's a dream, but it could happen...

Oh well, nevermind - skip my preceeding post...  ::)

How you can defend the IRS is (I'm going to try and be nice now), FUCKED UP. People like you and the stupid shit you say are what is killing this country.

So now the EPA is claiming that they also, amazing coincidence, can't find emails! And one of the former employees has fled to New Zealand. And, once again, an agency in violation of the NARA rules and refusing to provide Congress testimony and email records.

This after the EPA annoucing that they want the authority to regulate all water in the USA including the drainage ditch in your front yard, your stock tank, that marsh in your field, and the small creek over the hill. Basically everything. I don't see that they mentioned wells or the water in your bathtub, but I imagine that also.

Ladies and Gentlemen, they are going to fucking find Jimmy fucking Hoffa before they find those fucking emails. And they will lose more before the year is done. They have top men working on the data trail.

Does anyone know how a President who unilaterally changes existing law, ignors laws he doesn't agree with, thumbs his nose at Congressional oversight, and legislates by having the various bureaucracies issue regulations that have nothing to do with clarifying underlying law, legislates by issuing Executive Orders that have nothing to do with National Security, who uses agencies like the EPA and the IRS against his opponents, who brazenly tells us 'if Congress won't act I will', and additionally tells us he has 'a pen and a phone' and will thus continue doing whatever it is he wants - can someone please tell me how this person is not a Dictator?

Remember back when Obama was the Messiah, a few voices spoke out and said this man is friendly with terrorists (Bill Ayres and Bernadette Dohrn), is sympathetic with the Islamists (precisely the wrong person to deal with current world events), is a Marxist (that racist Marxist church he attended, all those associates he was trying to hide, and current people like Van Jones, Axelrod, Jarrett, Plouffe, Sunstein), rose through the ranks of a filthy Daily Political Machine (understands and eager to use dirty tricks and underhanded tactics), and was a would-be Dictator?

Remember that?

Oh, it was beyond the pale that any of it applied to this fine man.  Crazy talk.  Did we know how nuts it all sounded?

How desperate they were to believe.  We were all just a bunch of racists opposing this wonderful man.

Now, fast forward 6 years.  Every single thing we said turned out to be true.  Some of us have the experience, insight, and ability to connect the political dots, others do not.

I've noticed even his fellow travelers in the media (and even on Bellgab) have been suspiciously quiet as everything we've said about that character Obama has come to pass and the scandals and catastrophic events continue to unfold. Quite the contrast from their vigorous, almost dogmatic, defense of a figure that they saw as some deity.

Let's say he's not a Marxist, not a Dictator wannabe, not a friend of Sunni terror, not a disciple of the underhanded dirty tricks found in machine politics.

If he were all of that, had a Media that covered for him, and wanted to do what he could while still fooling enough people to be able to continue on as President, what would he be doing differently?

I'm sure this can all be explained too.

I'm sure the hard-drive will be lost or the media will ignore. There is always some excuse or cover, usually.

Actually, though, that is about the only sort-of good news I've heard from the IRS in a long time. Not that I think Obama should be using the IRS as a political hit-man, which he clearly is, but because I think all politicians (and political appointees and maybe everyone in government above a certain GS level pay grade) should be audited every year and ALL those records made public every year.

Of course it is impeachable that they only targeted this guy (and the groups) for purely political reasons and for political revenge. But my opinion is ALL of them should be audited and results of audit made public, yearly.

Yeah, they do, like with Quarterly Estimated Payments etc. Interestingly I once tried to "make a point: and tried to pay in cash at an IRS office. No dice. Was refused. Even though I "went on a mini-rant" about how the notes say "good for all debts public and private" on them. They claimed it was for "my security" that they wouldn't take cash. Ha ha. A long time ago though.

Why all y'all gotta be so down on Karl Marx? He never peed in your fucking Cheerios. It's Stalinist fascism that caused your present problems. /sniff

I know someone who was at the grocery store one day and after ringing up her groceries reached into her pocket and put her money on the counter... along with her stash.  "You can't pay for it with that" was the cashier's response...
