I'm watching Stargate while listening to the Braves-Yankees spring training game
The movie? If you mean the movie, I think the first 20-30 minutes of that is one of the most captivating openings of any movies. Certainly among films of its genre, but even of suspense/mystery/adventure movies in general I think its set-up was brilliant.

Same with The Fifth Element.

I love that movies,I've never seen the Stargate tv series

onan

Stargate the director's cut... is a very good watch and gives some back story to the bad guy... Stargate is a pretty solid movie. The series... had its moments. All through its 10 year run there were some very good story lines. I am not sure where you can see it... think maybe Netflix, or torrent it. mostly it is worth the time.

Speaking of horror, anyone see a movie called Cigarette Burns with Norman Reedus? I am not a horror fan, in general, but this movie wasn't really a horror movie, more like a really imaginative, disturbing film which had some horror in it. I watched it 'cause of Norman (we should start a Norman thread), but discovered it to be really cool. Udo Kier is in it, too. Gotta have Udo for anything thing disturbing and German.  :P

Udo sort of took over for Klaus Kinski. The main difference being that Udo just played being psychopathic.

Was a decent lil' flik, and came out when the Master's of Horror series was still watchable.

Love Udo Kier.

Anyone see that Dracula with Udo Kier in it? I found it pretty funny actually. But Kier was a perfect hambone in that movie.

Was it a Warhol movie?

Hahahaha.... reminds me of Rutger Hauer.  I've never been able to eat french fries without carefully checking them out after watching "The Hitcher."

Watched Cinema Verite last night.  It's a dramatization of the early '70's PBS show "An American Family," which is widely accepted as the first reality show on TV.  I thought it was pretty well done.  Diane Lane was damn near perfect as Pat Loud.

Yes, but I am not sure how much of a role Warhol played in it.

I barely remember seeing it,  but remember it being somewhat tough to watch.

Usagi

Blade Runner (great, naturally).  And a previous mention of acting sensation Rutger Hauer...

I just have to take this moment to put my HEARTY endorsement behind Hobo with a Shotgun. Thank you.

That's on my list to watch.  I've seen the previews and it's something else.  ;D

HAL 9000

Yes, I watched Snow White and the Huntsman "extended version" and yes I enjoyed it without alcohol or prescription drugs.

Nice BRRip - only 2.2GB via torrents

I just watched The Master, with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix. Wow, what a film. Should have won all kinds of awards, as should these two actors for their performances. Highly recommended.

MrMajestik

I don't watch violent movies for the most part, so I was very surprised by how much I liked Dredd.

It was very violent and even had the slow motion sequences I normally hate . But It was done differently here and fit into the story. I had no idea Judge Dredd was a British comic character from the (70's?) and up till now associated the name with that Sandra Bullock movie.

If you want to see a good violent film give it a try.

I watched this movie last night after reading your post. It was a really good movie, and I'm really surprised that I have never heard about it until now. They must not of promoted it very well. Even though it was quite obvious that "The Master" was a cult leader, he was charismatic and I could see how someone could trust him enough to join "The Cause". I also got the feeling that they were poking fun at Scientology. Two great actors, and a very interesting story. Thanks for mentioning this movie, I really enjoyed it.

The original PBS documentary could serve not only as the first unscripted reality tv show; not only as the moment from which we can mark the loss of all hope of rescuing tv from the vast wasteland it had made of itself; but the moment at which the collapse of traditional American culture was apparent.

Agreed.  I've not seen the entire series yet.  I've seen a few episodes here and there over the years.  In our house, in the early '70s, PBS was too radical to view.  ;D   But I've managed to track down episodes here and there.

I watched The Amazing Spiderman last night, expecting to turn it off three minutes in. I was pleasantly surprised, I rather liked it. Gorgeous, brilliant Emma Stone I'll watch in anything, and Martin Sheen dies early in the film, which is always good, that lefty fag.  :P

Just watched The Grey (Liam Neeson, plane crash, frozen tundra, shitload of killer wolves). So-so script, well acted, great photography. Worth the time.

Really? I kept waiting for the film to start. Towards the end I realized "This is it..." It was like a long continuous shot of gray tundra and Liam Neeson. I give it two fallopian tubes down.

stevesh

Yeah, it's probably more of a guy flick. No fifteen-minutes scenes with women whining at each other about their sucky lives.
