I Like Ike

Started by Camazotz Automat, September 11, 2008, 03:31:10 PM

Okay, this is me walkin' out the door, Cyclotron Knight rescuing a damsel (and her cat) in distress ? said damsel's dragon-scorched castle standing sentinel down on the precarious Texas coast.

Everyone play nice while I'm gone.  What the hell.  Play mean.  Watch out for EvB's cattle prod.

Tunes for the road: Johnny Cash, Danzig, Iron Maiden, Led Zep, Ozzy, Sabbath, Dio, Megadeth, ELO, John Denver, WASP, Lustmord, Neil Young, & and the ever trusty weather radio.

(Battening down the hatches.)

Laterzzzzzzzzzz??

Life is short.  Death is longer.
- Camazotz Automat, Over and Out

Bonus:

A stretch of Star Trek script just for grins that has always meant much to me and somehow sets the tone for the road trip in light of IKE.  Captain Kirk is addressing a bearded Mr. Spock in a parallel universe:

Kirk: You're a man of integrity in both universes, Mr. Spock.

Spock: You must return to your universe, I must have my captain back. I shall operate the transporter, you have two minutes and ten seconds.

Kirk: For that time, I have something to say. How long before the Halkan prediction of galactic revolt is realized?

Spock: Approximately two hundred forty years.

Kirk: The inevitable outcome?

Spock: The Empire shall be overthrown, of course.

Kirk: The illogic of waste, Mr. Spock. Of material, resources, time. I submit to you that your empire is illogical because it cannot endure, I submit that you are illogical to be a willing part of it.

Spock: You have one minute and twenty-three seconds.

Kirk:  If change is inevitable, predictable, beneficial, doesn't logic demand that you be a part of it?

Spock: One man cannot summon the future.

Kirk: But one man can change the present, be the captain of this Enterprise, Mr. Spock. Find a logical reason for sparing the Halkans and make it stick, push till it gives! You can defend yourself better than any man in the fleet.

Scotty: Captain, get in the chamber!

Kirk: What about it, Spock?

Spock: A man must also have the power.

Kirk: In my cabin, there's a device that will make you invincible.

Spock: Indeed?

Kirk: What will it be, past or future? Tyranny or freedom? It's up to you.

Spock: It is time.

Kirk: In every revolution, there's one man with a vision.

Spock:  Captain Kirk, I shall consider it.

From Star Trek episode "Mirror, Mirror" - October 6, 1967

I don't remember Spock with a goatee...

I didn't think it was possible for Nimoy to look hotter, but he does in this pic. I have a very vague recollection of that episode. Some weekend, I must rent all the original Star Trek episodes and watch them all back to back to back.

Sounds like a plan to me!

the last time I did something like that - I downloaded the entire first season of The Tudors (Amazon Unbox) and spent a 3-day weekend just doing whatever i pleased. It was a happy-birtday to me. The kids took me to dinner and a movie on "the day" but this was my chance to just be LAZY and love it.

Not a bad idea! A Spockathon!  :)

Word. What would be cooler is if one or more of us rented the same things (be it Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc.) and kept a running commentary either on a thread or the chat room!

    1) This moment of dialog between Kirk and Spock in "Mirror, Mirror" has always been my favorite moment of the entire series, and, I think, the show's crowning achievement. (I also loved the final, two-part episode of Enterprise that was an homage to this--although I was never a big fan of the latter day Trek series. Enterprise was probably the best of the lot, to me.)

    2) Cammy, baby, your wit, your mastery of the language, your pith, vim and verve are such that I stand in awe--which is a rare thing for me. I usually sit in awe.

Right now, Ike is the hurricane battering the Gulf Coast of Texas, Louisiana and Florida. However, "I like Ike" was a popular saying during Mr Eisenhower's Presidential run.

From Wikipedia:
Dwight David Eisenhower (October 14, 1890 ? March 28, 1969), nicknamed "Ike", was a five-star general in the United States Army and U.S. politician who served as the 34th President of the United States from 1953 until 1961. During the Second World War, he served as Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in Europe, with responsibility for planning and supervising the successful invasion of France and Germany in 1944?45. In 1951, he became the first supreme commander of NATO.[1]

As President, he oversaw the cease-fire of the Korean War, kept up the pressure on the Soviet Union during the Cold War, made nuclear weapons a higher defense priority, launched the Space Race, enlarged the Social Security program, and began the Interstate Highway System.

and

Not long after his return in 1952, a "Draft Eisenhower" movement in the Republican party persuaded him to declare his candidacy in the 1952 presidential election to counter the candidacy of non-inteventionists Senator Robert Taft. (Eisenhower had been courted by both parties in 1948 and had declined to run then.) Eisenhower defeated Taft for the nomination but came to an agreement that Taft would stay out of foreign affairs while Eisenhower followed a conservative domestic policy. Eisenhower's campaign was a crusade against the Truman administration's policies regarding "Korea, Communism and Corruption" and was also noted for the simple but effective phrase "I Like Ike."

Apparently, every time someone has an "evil" version of themselves, they either have a goatee or a scar. I never understood that...I guess facial hair or aesthetic accidents are of the devil.  ???

Yes, I know Ike was a prez and is a hurricane. I was joshing, you goofballs. <sigh> Sometimes you guys are so loveable I wanna hug every one of you. Other times I observe tree growth in the vast forests of British Columbia.

i assume you are referring to George's discovery of the 'dopelganger'. yes he invented that one, and the shadow person and the portal. George's dopelganger however would be a great radio host without a moustache, or eyebrows.

Your humor is very dry (which I like) and online it's often hard to tell someone's intent.  Notice *I* didn't answer you question (just stuck up a pic to acknowledge the joke) after making a total ass of myself telling you how to find Asian booty.

One of these days, dear M - you're gonna have a real issue to address - or a real question, and no one will reply!  LOL!

Meanwhile - enjoy the wilderness.
