For the newcomers here, if you listened to last night's show. Those old recording of George were scripted. George thought he was doing an audtion from a movie script.

George just wants to be appreciated and liked.

How do you like California Yorkshire??

There's a California in Birmingham, England. Not in Yorkshire.....


How do I like it? I like some of the area and not so crazy about other bits. Some of the friends I have made, I say in all seriousness I have made for the rest of my and their lives. I could explain further why, but suffice to say they are mainly ex military guys from all the services, who accepted me into their 'gang' and have been nothing but brothers to me. Older brothers, but none the less brothers. One old boy is 88, he was in the airforce in Korea and he's one of the greatest people I have had the privilege to be acquainted with.

Our neighbours are great people too. I introduced them to the delights of proper deep fried cod and chips (fries) as we bought a deep fryer to make them. I love the majesty of Yosemite, and Santa Cruz is a great place in the close season, warm but not crowded.

I naturally have come to know some of Laura's friends who we see from time to time. But we're not party people so tend to go out together somewhere rather than to other people's places.

Things I don't particularly care for: The summer heat is oppressive. The house is closed up to stop it being an oven, with the a/c running up the electricity bill. The quality of house building is not great..mainly wooden frames, clad in more wood and then stucco. Even the roofs are faked fired tiles! Yet sell for a fortune. The way that they don't sink power lines into the ground like in the Uk is the main reason that if a storm hits they are without power for a lot longer than in the UK. The fact that bathrooms have power sockets and flush fitting light switches was a surprise (shock!) to me. That is just crying out for electrocution if you get out of the bath or shower. Both are illegal in UK houses.


It took some getting used to how many cops are here...And how they're used for monitoring road works. Sitting there with the engines running for hours with the lights flashing.

I too have travelled (like Senda has) on the Light rail system. All. life. is. there. Truly. Enough said.

I've been to council meetings in the city and sat in the auditorium with the various council members (including the mayor) discussing and listening to an issue that was relevant to our area. That was fun.

The homeless thing I can never really get used to..it is horrendous. There are homeless in the Uk, there are  cities in the Uk with a bigger issue than others, but Sac and SF seem to have the total quota for all of the UK combined. I heard from several people that other states bus them in because SF is a sanctuary city.

I don't think anyone really learns how to drive here. I can't really put my finger on the main issue, because on the freeways they never look around what is going on, and only look to the car in front...yet on the city streets they tend to hesitate at the slightest thing. Unlike in the UK, cars over three years old don't have an annual safety check other than smog, and even that isn't mandatory. Consequently you see cars with bits hanging off them, bald tyres, smashed windscreens driving around. And trucks..lots of trucks.

The parks are lovely, the millions of trees are a delight. The bird life we get in the garden is quite diverse. See pictures.

But all the above is happenstance, its what it is because I'm here and not another country.

SV was the lay of Surrey...honestly. And still is. Those wild nights and sublime days rolling around on matted horse hair shit stained mattresses will live with me for ever. That was pretty accurate reporting. You are definitely in one, if not the highest cost of living regions in the country. Sacramento is definitely cheaper than the bay area though.

It's a good home base to go exploring the West, that's for sure.

Falkie's posts were long and tedious, but shorter and less tedious than the videos.  It is easier to skim thru a post fora few bits of amusement than a video.  So I'd rather have posts to skim through than videos I'm probably going to skip entirely.

Unfortunately he isn't coming back, no matter what Damian or whoever it was on last night's show who kept insisting he is.  He has no reason to.

Sanctuary cities and homelessness are two different things but none are bused to SF.

SF is a good city to be homeless for a few reasons. The city provides more shelters than most other cities, there is a large population of wealthy people so there is opportunity to get scraps and finally the climate. In SF it never gets too cold or too hot, you can survive outdoors. Try that in Chicago.

The city provides more shelters than most other cities, there is a large population of wealthy people so there is opportunity to get scraps and finally the climate. and when Cabrini Green was demolished...
the former residents were "encouraged" to move to Indiana...
they were told a 6 month to 9 month wait for Chicago...
my "affluent" neighborhood had a couple of families move in several blocks away...
and within 6 months home invasions and auto theft, both contents and vehicle "just happened"..
so so sad ...
a great city, great schools, great opportunities just pissed away...
oh, the perpetrators were 14, 16 and 17 years old...
