First segment of Hendrie's Art Bell spoof tonight:

Thanks for posting this, is that you cracking up in the background? LOLZ

Luna

174 signatures so far. It's going a bit too slow. I was hoping there wasn't going to be so many fans dropping off. :<

I don't know. Come to think of it, I remember way back in the beginning of his comeback he mentioned he had gotten numerous offers and I have a hard time seeing how Sirius Xm really sounded like the best option. Money wise, it was shit. He could've researched --- or hired someone to research --- the likely problems he could encounter. Ok. So there's that. To my mind, getting a few pod-casting details and selling the ever living hell out of memorabilia and advertisements would be the way to go. At least, from a financially viable artistic standpoint.

Anyway, I turned hendrie off. The melatonin should be slowly kicking in any minute now.

I swear I remember reading that art had been contacted by the other big radio networks, but he dident want them trying to controll his content or have to deal with management wanting tons of commercials and thus turned them down.

I think arts big problem with sirius is, the limited audience.
You have 27 million subscribers, plus some that joined just because of art and most of them were probably not listening during the evening/night.
I think he expected it to be like am radio, you had most of the world as a possible audience, Not just people in the US/canada or people who want to deal with fakeing a US address to sign up.

He had a monster signal( almost all of the big 50Kw stations, plus the little guys), best time of the day( er night)for it to propigate with low noise  world wide and it was free if you had a radio.

Sirius could never get that kind of audience together, hell, If a kid in africa had a radio that could get the US am band, he could listen to art too.

That SXM player is a bloated piece of crapware. If it didn't load all those 'slick' icons and use such complicated code it would work a lot better. It nearly maxes out the CPU resources on an older laptop I have on my nightstand for listening as I fall asleep... and it's a 1.6 duocore with a gig of ram.

And now it's time to go in there and check my eyelids for cracks... and listen to some mid 90's Dreamland... as I slip into dreamland....

I do remember that when I saw Art was coming back, I was soo happy. Then I read that it was going to be on SiriusXM and I was a bit confused and after I looked it up, my heart sank a bit. I really did not want an account, but in the end, I signed up for the trial anyways, since Art was worth it. So far the only other program I listen to is NPR... which I can listen to on normal radio for free anyways.

Thanks BC! Xtreme1 was on it and I just realized the other night quicktime had a audio record feature that was super easy. Of course it had to catch me giggling, but aw well...  :D

It isn't.

Until they fix the drop off crap and the 1011 garbage I won't be going back to Sirius whether or not Art comes back or not.
If they're supposed to stream content, and pretend to be radio, then they should act like radio and not have you have to periodically click on a button to keep that content going 24/7.
I had never heard of satellite radio until Art announced he was coming back on the air on it.
I wonder why Art just didn't buy back KNYE and start his new show from there, get other stations to carry it and then tell the suits that IF they wanted to have his show HE and not they would have total creative control instead of being on a cockamamie satellite thing that didn't work half the time.
It's a good part of my frustration I have and had with him.
If it don't work get it fixed before you take the money from people, not after.

Hey, that only added to the charm. It's been a bumpy ride, and it's refreshing to hear a human element. Way to be totally on the ball!

If Art bought KNYE... and did his show till he's old and feeble and brain all cob-webby with dementia... til the aliens come for him, I would be so happy!  °π°

SiriusXM offers the internet package with the On Demand features but that's hardly their main focus - it's a satellite radio company, after all. They told Art they were working on a "long term solution" but for paying subscribers without a radio at home or in their car (which work perfectly, mind you), customers would suffer errors or connection drops during a show. I hope SiriusXM realize that they need to make signing up for international users easy without being forced to use a fake U.S. address and to have a reliable internet option for those around the world to enjoy ASAP. There's a huge market to be filled and they're missing out.

OnA were joking about this the other day... erm Tuesday.  "What kind of a company sells you a service that assumes you aren't listening to it if you haven't changed a channel or adjusted the volume in 20 mins?" I believe was the quote that had me luling on the floor.  They went on to make another good point in regards to this.  It's talk radio! these shows (OnA, SCHTERN, Art) go for 4-5 hours... a lot of people that listen to talk radio aren't necessarily sitting in front of it like it's 1930 they're feeding kids, taking shits, making breakfast, driving n schtuff.  Most listeners are going to be In and out but to assume that because we haven't interfaced with whatever the fuck we are listening through means that we aren't listening seems very stupid.

Yeah. I want to listen to art till he's so old he super-glues his lips together, or accidentally burns himself because he smoked the wrong end of an e-cigarette.

Aren't we both supposed to be in the melatonaverse by now? What's wrong with this stuff? I took 6 mg of NOW brand.

He's so cute. ^^

OnA were exaggerating, the timeout feature was previously 90 minutes until SiriusXM increased it to 4 hours upon Art Bell's request. Apparently it's to save on bandwidth if someone has left it running endlessly but it's a hassle to click "Keep Listening" when you're running on the treadmill or cooking dinner.

OK So can we get a better recording of this other than with someone laughing over top of a radio b-cast?  It is funny, but i want to hear it too!

I do believe that's Richard Hoagland without his hair piece.

And you thought NASA was trying to cover something up.

Man, this thread finally wore me out.

I gave up on page 161. Sorry to those that posted after that, I didn't read.

Art may be back? YaY? MAY be back... fuck.

And what is all the crybaby bull shit, "people said mean things."? If anyone thinks Art's decision depends on a positve poll on this forum... they need to reconsider their grasp of reality.

I want Art to have a show. I want it to be a great show. But I have to say (like so many already have), his strategy to this point is concerning. I see no reason for SXM to "take him back". Perhaps increased revenue. But again I have to say, if I were an advertizer I would have reservations. What reasonable business person wouldn't?

NO matter how poorly SXM's internet stream was/is, Art accepted that condition when he signed up. If Art had continued and also worked on another viable stream alternative. I probably wouldn't be posting on a 170+ page thread.

Art's public behavior did and still upsets me. And to make it very clear, I have the utmost respect for his talent in broadcasting. I regret as strongly as I can his absense. I do not for a second regreat holding him accountable nor using strong language to express that regret.

jazmunda

I just can't see Sirius going along with this. I hope I am wrong. Maybe I'm just being a glass is half empty kind of a guy today.

If Sirius say no it has been perfectly set up this time for the blame and anger to be directed at them.

Nothing would please me more than to be 100% wrong.

Hopefully in a little under 14 hours we will be in a different thread discussing Dark Matter 2.0.

Long live Art Bell and Dark Matter.
