whatever happens happens.  i just want to be able to hear art broadcasting again.  i don't really care too much about what might happen or what has happened.  i, too, am worried about the realities of internet broadcasting and what it means for art's potential longevity (or lack thereof) upon return, but it's not at the forefront of my thoughts on the matter.  i just want him to start broadcasting again.

What does SiriusXM benefit by forcing Art to stick to his NC? At this point it's just a fuck you to Art.  And for Art to argue in court that he should be released from his NC because SiriusXM provided sub standard streaming would take roughly as long (or longer) that remains on his NC.  So the best and cheapest solution is to wait.  Which sucks.  If you're a SiriusXM subscriber I hope you unsubscribe cause they're assholes.

i added streaming service to my dad's already existing sirius account which only cost me $63 for three years of service, so i decided the effort of cancelling would probably not be worth the pocket change they'd refund me.  definitely won't allow it to renew, though.  i don't even have the sirius app on my phone any longer because it's poorly written and i don't trust it since it has a background process that runs ALL THE TIME, regardless of whether you've used the app or not.  it's a clunky lump of shit.  opie and anthony mentioned something about sirius acknowledging their streaming service blows chunks and that they plan to completely rebuild the whole thing (the streaming service infrastructure AND the app) within the year.  perhaps if art had just waited, all would have been fixed.  then again... perhaps it was his departure that finally prompted them to give their notoriously flawed streaming service some attention.  o&a certainly were not critical of his decision to leave.  they understood completely, but i think they've stuck around for so long because they needed the money.  art doesn't.

Since Premrad is back in bed with Sirius, I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was a little "wink-wink... keep putting it to that Bell guy," after the bad blood between Art and Premrad and Art laying out the details of at least one grievance with Premrad during the first DM show.  I doubt Sirius was thrilled with how it all went down with DM at the end, either.  The suits are probably in no mood to do him any favor.

As much as I love Art and would give my right nut to hear him broadcast right now why should Sirius release him from his NC? If I had the legal right to do so I would do the same thing if someone broke a contract with me and not just to be an asshole either. I also agreed with, although I didn't like, their decision to not allow Art to broadcast for free. Why should they go against their business model and give their milk away for free?

I'm not bagging Art. Geographically I shouldn't have been able to get his show and I could have just not found a way to subscribe and got the show illegally for free but I was one of those that ponied up and got burned. Having said that I would do it all over again to get another six weeks. It was a fun albeit cock tease of a ride.

Thanks Jaz and Dort for Art Bell updates AND keeping the flame alive.  Much better than those who in a juvenile way poop or piss on anything Art nowadays!  Art did say he was going to broadcast asap AND I always thought he wouldn't make this unnecessary pledge unless he thought to do it.  And this just verifies that.

That said--about the viability of an internet broadcast?  Don't know how huge it could get--but there are those who do get huge podcast numbers.  And the IMPORTANT point would be Art making his "art"--quality is nothing to sneeze at even if not getting quite the numbers of the past.

I'd be listening.

that's true.  the first name to come to mind is joe rogan, but it didn't happen overnight.  joe had to work hard and build an audience.  i'm not sure if art has it in him to slog through that.

I do like how motivated Art sounds--sounds full of piss and vinegar.  Plus like the long planning period he has.  That said I tend to be an optimist!  He does have an intense cult base that can help him evangelize the show--that doesn't hurt.  Despite some detractors he still has a good deal of those fans.  But regardless as long as he does a great show--I'd be happy.

Also ironic this type of show is what John Welles is going to do.

Rogan did start with a fanbase too. I think his broad appeal comes much from the fact that he spans a range of interests from comedy to MMA fighting and he was able to successfully bridge those two with his podcast. He has a life and career outside of simply broadcasting. It's not so true with Art. He wasn't really in the spotlight or doing anything else during his hiatus that would have kept his name fresh outside of his fanbase. I think the success of any future Art Bell internet show will depend strongly on promotion  and him having a presence outside of radio. That might mean deeper and more direct involvement in social media and even doing television interviews. Personally, I would love to see a well-made documentary on the man's life and work. Something of high production value and with wide distribution.

I agree. Surely he could use the artbell.com and social media more wisely rather than being a hub for weird and wacky articles that Keith finds on the web.
