George Noory ROCKS -- A Board for George Noory Fans

I understand the criticism of George. I get that. He's not brought a lot of energy to the show. And he needs to put effort into his interviewing. A journalist -- if we're to put him in that box -- constantly needs to work at this. There is craft involved. You can always run a better interview.

But I do think the guy is well-meaning, and that he does have some intellectual curiosity. I thought this piece sized him up pretty well.

"The Listener"...
I don't feel like GN listens well at all. He reads from his cue card his prewritten question and then on to the next card. He just listens for the guest to stop talking...
He rarely "listens" to an answer and says something like
"you mentioned xyz...
tell us more about that..."
what evidence is there..."
etc etc
He doesn't pick out interesting concepts in those answers and expand upon it.

Its like knowing how to get wheat but having no idea how to turn that wheat into bread or whiskey.

I now feel sad for George.

Go listen to one of his shows.  You'll get over it.

noory is a living palindrome. Playing his monologues backwards has the same meaning as playing them forward.

Since this is the good things about Noory thread:
Noory had a good show on August 9, 2012.

He had some funny moments. I laughed at his "animals under stress" being more attracted to heavier animals question.

He seems to work well talking about "new age" healing (first hour August 8). He has enough knowledge about this subject he can be entertaining to listen to.

I actually found the stuff on animal empathy interesting.

<-- accidental smiley!! awesome.  I now know why my mom taught me that when ending a sentence with a ")" or a """ to always put the period before the ")" or """

FWIW, this question highlights the valid difference between (IIRC) the British method ("outside".) and the American rule ("inside."). While there has been some recent progress in that some Americans seem to be moving toward the British style, I wouldn't expect unanimity for centuries. After all, what can you expect from two countries that can't even agree about the correct side of the road on which to drive?

Understood.  Agreed on the weirdness of nesting of  " . )

It is the internet... the mma of discussion. Wanting to discuss noory as a good guy, although a valid conversation, most of us here have been down that road hundreds of times. I guess it is normal to not understand the "culture" of a forum when new.

As to hating, no one here is advocating the physical demise of the noory. We would like to see him gone however.

Last night's guest, the hillbilly dowser, offered his own follow-up question when he said, "I can expound on that if you like."  Snoorz managed a muffled , "Uh . . . shurr."

Lately his verbal tic has morphed into a, "That's true, too."  Ironically he usually says it after the most debatable points - or as a complete non-sequetor to the last response.

Such massive suckage.

I don't know anyone who sincerely likes George.  I don't hate him as such.  The best comment I've heard about him (outside of the sycophant callers) is that he's OK, but not Art.

Cafe Marrakesh and Oasis Bar, table for one.

"Would you like to start with the spicy camel pizza rolls?  Sorry about the problem with the valet parking.  Tommy is still getting used to his Fez cap."

While here it's likely quite sacrilege to state, truth is, quite often, i even prefer George MORE than the incorrigible Mr. Bell  ;D

Pizza anyone ???

Oh, Tommy.  How often you must have considered how unfair life is with George having his own show while someone with actual training and talent such as yourself does his bidding and puts up with his buffoonery in silence.  Should have stayed with Dr Laura.

George is by far the funniest host C2C has ever had.

Wrong, wrong and fucking WRONG again!  Congrats!  A pea for a brain can not conceive of intellect.  You may be familiar with that lack of ability yourself?  I would so love your response to be u were merely jesting.

Knapp is also a journalist and doesn't have Noory's issues.  He's perhaps not as personable as Bell was, but he's highly competent and able to engage both the audience and the guest.

Noory is not so much a journalist today as just a "radio guy," who's just there to fill a role via phony charisma, phony professionalism, and a feigned interest in whatever he's talking about.  He's sort of like a shoe salesman who gets fired and gets another job selling refrigerators.  It's all just a job.

Max_TO

He needs to quit his radio gig, as he is simply not up to the task.

Having said that, he should move on to finally pursuing his true calling and dream job and start singing in Vegas  ::)

Shouldn't it be a banjo?  I could see Noory serenading some guys planning to get lost on a canoe trip on the Cahulawassee River.
