Now you know what you must do. You must call in on Friday and recite it.

Do we have an "Amen"?
Amen! ;)

If someone comes on and starts a story about driving on a dark, lonely road I am going to come through the phone and strangle them. Oh, and let's not forget the classic, "and then I turned round and he was gone!".  Why don't we do recipe ideas as well? What's your favourite fruited loaf? I know, half an hour on table linen too would be an absolute corker!

If IB manages to get Skype working this time, then I think that will be enough paranormal activity for me.
I still have questions about caring for my cast iron skillet.

It's not difficult.  I would tell you, but I don't want to steal Sredni's thunder. ;)

I would be too busy beating myself over the head with it.

I want to beat myself up over it as well. I bought it because I'm a swinging bachelor and don't like to mess with cleaning. A lady told me that cast iron was the way to go because it never needs to be cleaned. She said it actually would harm said pan if I did wash it. I have found this skillet to be a pain in my ass.

I don't think that you are using it correctly.

She jumped in his rig,
And called him a pig,
Then slapped him and ran from his rig.

Geez brig... The way I remember the 'incident'   ....it went more like this..

He asked her for a jump in his rig,
And she asked if he was a pig
So he showed her his rig,
And the two little piggies went to the market.

Seriously you should be a head writer on SNL or something.

did you season it 1st ?
secondly, once well seasoned, its fairly non stick if you use cooking spray.
i just wipe mine out with soapy water. some refuse to use soap. i always dry with a paper towel , then wipe oil at least on the inside. sometimes putting on the stove and getting it good and hot , then letting cool with the  oil on it.

I wouldn't say that. I find your attitude conservative and suffocatingly bourgeois.

I use cast iron and love it...but it is more for the die hard cook...you need to cook a lot with it in order to have it seasoned well...get a good quality non-stick and you will be fine...

I boil water in mine when I am done cooking, dump it out, brush it out with one of those wok bamboo scrubber, spray it with some olive oil, wipe it off and put it up.

But those new ceramic pans are much easier.

I cook exclusively on a gas bbq. When I'm done with the skillet I scrape it off with a knife and then put a pat of butter in it.

I won't belittle you for using gas...though you deserve it! Lol

Well a cast iron on the grill is a great tool! I actually use nonstick spray in my cast iron...works well...

I use charcoal (Kingsford) every weekend for long cooks. I only use the gas when using my skillet or to heat up a pizza or whatever. Grilling with gas is against my religion but because I don't have indoor cooking gadgets yet it is so much cheaper and easier to just fire up the gas than it is to use my (Weber) charcoal grill every night.

You receive a special permit for gas use...go in peace...

I always wash my skillet. Simply because I like the taste of rust. Reminds of the old pumped water as a kid. And cures my iron deficiency. Kidding, don't abuse the skillet. Doesn't need to be washed.
ps: as for gas, my dividends thank you and keep on using it! But for real flavor you need wood. But the convenience of gas (whatever type) is excellent and I suggest everyone have a few full tanks "just in case" of blackout, zombies, hurricane, earthquake, blizzard, etc.

Absolutely right albrecht!  When I lived in the mountains, I had a Swedish Fireplace in my cabin that I would cook on in the winter.  Kept warm while filling my cabin with the best aromas.  MMMM . . . now my mouth has started watering.

I also recommend a rocket stove for emergencies. You can make a hot meal with just a few twigs n sticks...no gas necessary...

Is that what we used to call a "hobo stove?"
