Electronic Cigarettes

Anyone here smoke them? I'm strongly considering switching and would like to hear some input from people who have made the switch.

Seems to be a mixed bag of opinions. Electronic cigarettes are fairly new, so not a great deal of data to look at. However, the FDA has expressed some concern. I haven't read the reports. I have two colleagues that use them and enjoy them.

Once the initial cost is paid, they seem to be a cheaper option. Just hazarding a guess, inhaling a mist is probably less damaging than smoke. But if the mist has cyanonide... not so much. No e-cigs don't have cyanide.

I got one a few months ago.  It's easy to go back to smoking if your not really motivated to quit.  I think the patch and the ecig would work the best.  It has worked really well for some friends of mine as they have raved about it.  Everyone's experience has been different though.  You can never go wrong trying to quit.
Good luck with it.

I've smoked Blu E-cig - and alternatives to the standard "analog" (most like a real cigarette where you breath and it's activated)
they were decent, but i found the battery didn't last much longer than possibly a half a pack of cigarettes.  The "juice" was hit and miss with these as well, and often tasted dry almost.  They also cannot be refilled (They can but not typical use)

I then switched to tank atomizer type system, and have not looked back.  A friend pushed me into them, but now that I've ran out of juice - I've not smoked in a while.  I especially like the fruity flavors, instead of my old menthol cigarettes.  Either way, they did help me get off of regular cigarettes.

polyglycol + flavoring + water... Polyglycol may be misspelled, - but it's basically ANTI-FREEZE, lol but it's the good kind of antifreeze.  The kind they put into icecream, and various foods that you don't want freezing solid.  It's the kind that is FDA approved, and you consume it probably daily in various foods.

My gf is a nurse manager and she's read some reports about e-cigs increasing lung capacity up to 80% more for long time smokers. I can't imagine them being as harmful as cigs. I was hoping to get some feedback from any long time smokers that have made the switch about ling capacity, breathing etc. Were your friends prior smokers? Or hipsters?

As far as I know that's the only part of an e-cig that's approved my the FDA lol

Interesting, and it makes sense, deep inhalation is something we all should do several times a day. How ironic that smoking causes COPD and a myriad of other cardiopulmonary issues, yet this smoking may well reverse the condition... man I hope so.

I've beem smoking one off and on for over a year - I can definitely attest that I can now exercise better than when I was smoking real cigarettes.

I can't wait to share that anecdote with treatment team next week.

The brand I've been looking at is V2. Blu, from what I read, is one of the cheaper quality brands and is notorious for the problems you're talking about. V2 seems like the best non tank system.

Steelbot, how many batteries do you recommend? I soend a lot of time in the woods hunting/backpacking/camping and I don't want to be stuck out there without my nicotine. Also, my job tends to lose power, uhhh randomly, so same thing there.

I really wouldn't get the V2 - I would go for a tank system.  the one I bought was a no-name brand and I have NO idea the website i bought it from it was linked from a friend of mine.  He got one for his son as well we all have 2 batteries - and I only have a few times pushed the 1 battery down in about a 10-12 hour session.  It really depends on how much you are "hitting" it.  I would say get two.  As for the tank systems, you'll run out of e-juice in the tank, before you run out of battery juice  :D

The problem is finding the right tanks/atomizers/battery combos.  The first couple of tanks/atomizers I bought didn't burn quite right, then I actually spent some money on a couple of 15/20 dollar atomizers, and as long as when its empty you don't just refill it - but run hot water through it a few times and take it outside and flick it to get as much of the moister out then refill you'll be fine.  If you don't they burn up the atomizers quickly.  It basically looks like a wick in a pool of oil for a lamp.

OH YEAH - Liquified Nicotine is "dangerous" from what I've read, so you want to take care with getting the e-juice on your skin, as it's absorbed quickly...I used some cheaper e-cig tank variants and drank a tank (mini tanks) full one time, and did get a little light headed, but i figured the absorption rate once it touched my tongue should have been instant, and I couldn't spit right away as I was in traffic, so ...take that for what it is.

I think Ill stick with V2 for now. Tanks sound more complicated than its worth.

Chantex gave me nightmares! Siriusly - but with the e-cig you're only inhaling flavored water vapor it's not smoke.  It's actually kinda soothing, like a hooka.

I quit smoking cold turkey.
The third and fourth day are the worst.

It takes two weeks for the body to be completely rid of nicotine.
After that you are dealing with the  memory of the cigarette relieving stress however that memory is false. As you get low on nicotine you start to feel stress so you light one up to deal with it but once you have gotten rid of the nicotine in your body the cigarette will no longer work on stress because the stress is something else other than low nicotine. knowing that I had a two week mark to hit worked for me and then knowing that it was in fact a false memory of stress relief helped me through the mental part.

Archer -- Danger Zone

Ha. One post on this lead me to looking up all kinds of videos on YouTube, like The Thunderbirds.

Btw...some vapor flavors are wild. Mocha, Cappuccino, Creme Brulee. Even Roast Beef.

TumbleWeed

I don't smoke but I have a few freinds who do. They tried switching over, but they found themselves sucking on it constantly( Ie, almost every breath was being stucked though the ecig.) they ended up makeing themselves pretty sick from it. Last I know they all went back to real ones because it kept them from doing that.

I wonder how much niccotine some of them are absorbing every day, one guy in one of my college classes smoked 2 pack a day, chewed a full can a day and smoked the ecig when not doing one of the other two. Wonder what his lungs will be like if he lives to 40. ???

When I was in the Navy, I had a BM2 that tried that. It made him so depressed he tried to kill himself. They're a mood altering drug. I'll pass.

I've tried an e-hookah (seriously!) it was surprisingly fun, although with the cheapie I had you could inhale as much as you want and it doesn't seem to touch your lungs (at least that's how it felt).

There aren't too many e-cigs around where I am but a guy walked into a cafe I was sitting in puffing on one and he looked RIDICULOUS, i had to laugh. But they may be a viable method for getting off proper cigarettes.
