Stephen Bassett's "Citizen Hearing"

Started by RecoveringNoorholic, April 21, 2013, 10:25:25 PM

Has anyone else been following Stephen Bassett's "Citizen Hearing" event, where he's having former congressmen conduct a "hearing" on UFOs? I was cautiously optimistic about it.

Then this (http://www.parapolitical.com/2013/04/ufo-circus-returns-to-national-press-club) ...

Quote
The hearing panel will be headlined by former congressman Merrill Cook (R â€" Utah) who was once famously banned from his own party’s offices after a profanity-laced tirade and was plagued during his few years in Congress by reports of erratic behavior leveled by his own staff. “Merrill has taken up permanent residence in whacko land,” Cook’s chief of staff Janet Jenson wrote in an inter-office e-mail in 2000. ”If he asks you to fax his underwear to the speaker’s office, please just do it.”
Joining Cook will be former congressman Roscoe Bartlett (R â€" Maryland). The 86 year-old raised eyebrows in 2004 when he attended a Unification Church event to receive the “Ambassador of Peace medal” from cult leader Sun-Young Moon who, afterwards, declared himself the Messiah as Bartlett watched in delight.
But, that’s not all! Former senator Mike Gravel (D- Alaska) will also be there. After twice filing for bankruptcy, Gravel has apparently taken to making public appearances for anyone who will buy him lunch â€" his previous engagements have included a conference sponsored by the holocaust denial website Barnes Review. (UFO conspiracies aren’t Gravel’s only angle. He’s also been working the 9/11 Truth circuit, though, at least one “truther” website has accused him of “scamming” the so-called movement for a quick payday.)

From the c2c website about last Thu:

Citizen's Hearing
In the first hour, activist Stephen Bassett talked about the upcoming Citizen's Hearing on Disclosure to be held at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. from April 29th to May 3rd. He noted that previous UFO press conferences failed to create "critical mass" in the media, since they were only held over a few hours. However, this event will be held over several days, featuring top researchers and former military personnel presenting evidence to former members of Congress participating in a simulated hearing on UFOs. Bassett expressed hope that this massive effort will result in such overwhelming evidence for the reality of UFOs that the mainstream media will be forced to investigate the phenomenon.

The only evidence the MSM would accept is President Obama walking out hand in hand with a space alien.

LOL - I can hardly wait to see the MSM feeling compelled to "investigate" UFOs because nutty old Mike Gravel got a $75 Kohl's gift card from Steve Bassett to show up.

Thanks for bringing parapolitical to my attention. Are they worth bookmarking?

If I`m not mistaken, I believe Basset has a documentary premiering today. It`s titled "SIRIUS".

I watched the trailer and it`s very well put together. I`ll wait `til it hits Redbox.

That's the other "Dr." Stephen (Stephen Greer) ... Stephen Basset is a 10x nuttier version of Greer.

Ahhh, I see. I do tend to get my Ufologist Dr. Stephens` mixed up. Always have.

You can watch a live broadcast on Basset's website for $3.80, or something like that. Listened to an interview with him on a podcast, and to say he's enthusiastic about this stuff is an understatement. He's very wordy, it's a chore to listen to him, and he has what amounts to a hill of beans.

You do have to be careful about what you say about Bassett. He has a nasty habit of suing for defamation anyone who criticizes him ... http://www.examiner.com/article/slapps-to-follow-citizen-hearing-on-disclosure.

He even sued a lady whose couch he was crashing on.

Hillary Clinton reportedly had her own alien experience too:

I've disagreed with Bassett, both in person and in correspondence, on some of his rhetoric and choice of witnesses at his events, but if you think that it's all "a hill of beans" you haven't studied the phenomenon enough.

What testimony or episode do you consider to be compelling evidence of a government UFO cover-up?

I, personally, have studied the so-called "phenomenon" at great length. In fact, I used to be a firm believer in it until I started studying it to a level of depth that went beyond tuning-in to C2CAM and reading blogs. At that point it became clear it is 99% hee-haw wrapped-around 1% bunk.

Most of the most compelling episodes simply never occurred. The witnesses don't really exist. The places don't really exist. Nothing really exists. It's fairy tales that can only exist in the realm of alternative media, where nothing is fact-checked and nothing is confirmed. It was extremely - depressingly, in fact - difficult for me to come to terms with this once I realized it. I don't expect to sway you in a conversation on a message board, so no hard feelings if there is no opportunity for agreement.

No hard feelings at all. I made the error of addressing my comment to the subject of UFOs in general rather than cover-up conspiracy, though I don't think the latter is out of the question, if only due to "cover your ass" thinking.
That said, assuming that "Most of the most compelling episodes simply never occurred," which ones do you believe did?
Noory has to go. I'm available.

I have seen no episode or event I consider to be evidence of alien interaction on Earth. I said "most" out of modesty that I probably have not heard 100% of the stories out there and it's certainly possible - however improbable - there is a highly compelling account with which I'm not familiar.

Working on a list for you. More to come...
BTW one of the issues, mentioned in my original post, on which I have disagreed with Bassett is his use of phrases like "reality of an extraterrestrial presence now engaging the human race" (perhaps not a direct quote but close enough). I've suggested that in order to get wider acceptance rather than "preaching to the choir" he simply add "possible" to the statement. He didn't like the idea.

haha - the anchor could barely contain her snickers during the interview ... I guess, as with the "evidence" of UFO visitation, when one gets very embedded into the conspiracy theory, one starts seeing what one wants to see.

How many "disclosure" conferences do we really need? These people are all frauds.

Nothing unusual about a TV interviewer snickering at the subject, but at most she was amused and didn't laugh him off the stage as you suggested. As to seeing what one wants to see, I would assume it works both ways. ;)

Good point. It bears noting that "Paradigm Research Group" - which actively solicits and receives thousands of dollars in donations - is based out of a UPS Store PO Box and is incorporated as a for-profit entity. According to Bassett it's so they can do "more political activity that is prohibited by non-profits." Uh-huh.

This story is evolving faster than a Roswell crash report.

ufogadfly

Typical snickering mainstream coverage of the subject emphasizing the fringe element with two pics of wackos as opposed to any testimony from credible witnesses.
Oh, wait. That's right. It's the NY Daily News.
