The guest was completely insane and starting getting hostile with Dave.  Good on Dave for dumping him
I agree 100%....This guy should be banned from Coast to Coast because he IS INSANE and has no manners....I wanted to reach through the airwaves and punch him myself! Dave is a smart and savvy host...Good on him for having the BALLS to dump this ASSHAT!

Too bad he wasn't on with Noory. That could have been comedy gold.

Just Me

Schrader pounced on Joshua Abraham early on. After a break Dave came on and got really bizarre and attacked the guest and hung up on him. Sure Joshua was getting hot, wouldn't you if some second rate host sitting in on coast decided to run things his way and cut you off.

Joshua said in the beginning he was getting over the flu and his voice was strained. Dave was wrong in what he did and should never be allowed to host coast ever again.

The guys a blown up ego monster who went on the attack some place he had no business, going on the attack. Go back to Minnesota and play your game there.

This was the worst I have heard happen on coast with a stand in host going off on an already established coast guest.

Dave Schrader is a loser and should stay where he belongs, and not on coast throwing temper tantrums cause demons were named. Freakin rediculous.

Dave Schrader is a much better host than the regular one.

Kinda funny listening to two Christians talk about demons and one being all paranoid.
I was entertained.

Welcome to Bellgab.

Yes he was, till he pulled his little, on the radio tantrum.

Joshua knew he was being taunted by Schrader and being sick, began to get hot over the line of questioning from Schrader. Being sick and being taunted has disastrous communication affects.

I was amused by Joshua and wanted to hear him to the end. Unfortunately Schrader got shaken by his own demons being called out.

thanks for the welcome

I'm curious, Joshua mentioned reading 20 other books besides "The Satanic Bible" and "Necronomicon". Would you happen to know the titles? I've got a pretty large collection myself.

'Allo!
With you still am i.
I couldn't help chortling over some of the supposed scholarship of the guest, here.
His list was mostly not the serious classic books of occult lore that an real scholar like i would know of by historic reputation, but neo-satanist counterfeits that are presented by false'devil-ish'web sites put up by flip-flopping neo-manichaean 'believers'.
He gets an "B"grade for sincerity, but as an scholar,he's an "D"(not for 'Dee,Devil,Demonic'...!!)
Those whom say the most, know the least.
I'm considering posting an list..
"I have an little list, the'll never be missed...."
Opposing his 'choices'with the source book plagarised for each one.
Some were placed on line in now-trashed forae that dealt with the dark arts and forbidden knowlege.
Some are still acessible via un-obvious logs of subtle scholars in the obscure corners of the inter-net thingie.
My dilemma:
Do i rip aside the veil of obscurity and expose these extremeley hazardous and difficult-to-understand volumes of"quaint and forgotten lore"to the haphazard and motley crew of misfits that read this forum for's*itz & g*gg*les',as it were??

I couldn't take more than the first few minutes of the nutcase's rant, so I missed the great satisfaction of hearing Dave bounce him.  It's hard to believe that there are people who actually support the insanity that was spewing out of that cretin's mouth ... but evidently there are some.

Thank you, Good Dave, for being who you are and for relieving us on as many nights as you can from the grossness that is Simple Jorch.  Don't let anyone make you think you're not as good as you are.  Just consider the source.  :P

Dave was more patient than many hosts would have been given the near manic nature of the guest. The guest just kept raving about how it's just fine and dandy to speak demonic names left and right with no fear of repercussions. One of the things that I really respect about DS is that while he will maintain a skeptical attitude and play "devil's advocate" he takes these subjects seriously and sees them as worthy of a certain respect, a perspective no doubt at least partly engendered by experiences gathered from many years of actual paranormal research. Art would have probably either dumped the guy before the bottom of the hour or mocked him with sarcasm to the point he would have just hung up. If there is criticism to be given it would be that better pre show research might have meant his not being invited in the first place. Knapp for example seems to read and reread, as was the case with his interview with DP today, virtually everything a guest has written to the point he often rivals the actual authors concerning knowledge of their own works.

Joshua makes Alex Jones sound almost sane.  It's clear he's use to being able to run his rant without interruption or question, and takes offense at anyone daring to challenge him.  I applaud Dave for not playing his game, and eventually giving him the boot.  That said, this can't have been the first time Dave's ever interviewed this guy, so his over-the-top atttitude should not have come as a surprise.

Chad Jacobs

I'm not sure that Dave has interviewed Joshua on his show in the past.   I look at almost all the Darkness Radio shows (even if I don't have time to listen to all the broadcasts) and don't recall this guest.  The subject matter seemed potentially fascinating in a dark conspiracy sort of way (ie evil cults playing a part in abductions) however the guest never presented any arguments in support of his thesis.  Even Alex Jones will offer arguments supporting his conspiracies (for example in the case of Bohemian  Grove he once actually obtained a video with Walter Cronkite moderating a ceremony), but this guy just manically went on in a hybrid rant which was part Christian fundamentalist rhetoric and part Aleister Crowley old school Satanism/ Lovecraftian lore).  Indeed, as an RN who works ICU in Florida and who often takes care of those who are placed under involuntary holds or "Baker Acts" I really can't think of a single patient in the last six years who equaled this guy in terms of mania. Maybe, just maybe one could argue that Dave could have explicitly warned the guy "please calm down and have a discussion, and if you can't or won't I'm going to have to end this interview", but I doubt it would have made any difference.   In any case getting great guests is a real challenge that's one of the reason I give Knapp so much credit . Consider that in the case of DP he basically, "found" the guy based upon a book about Bigfoot he had written (and which Knapp had read) and sought out the interview which led (at least in part) to all of the subsequent books and interviews that have been done with this guest since.  Dave S. did something of the same thing with the widow of Lee Harvey Oswald, she was a fascinating guest who he first featured on his own show before bringing to Coast.

I gotta kinda wonder if he tried to warn the guy during the last break and he didn't take well to it. He did let the guy filibuster quite a bit in the beginning. Then asked a few questions and when it got down to a little actual debate, over really a side point, the guy goes off. DONT YOU DARE! or whatever. Dave did pretty good!

The guy was on twice before, but that was last year with Noory. Given Noory's work ethic last year I can't even find the slightest bit of enthusiasm to look those up and give a listen, but I can't image there was a lot of debate or, saying this with no sarcasm, paying attention.

Haven't yet listened to the show but I will catch it.

I want to say Schrader seems more willing to drop a guest on C2C and go to open lines. Which is fine, to me at least schrader doesn't drop guest as much on Dakrness radio. Sometimes Schrader has to dump a guest  on darkness then he and Tim just do filler. They usually read some stories of the Internet and do banter. I wish instead they would go to open lines or discuss current events. I think Schrader/Tim cover news and events fairly and am interested in their points of views rather than them just try to do filler.

Back in day, my grandfather had one of the original satellite TV systems.  You know, the ones that had a receiving dish twice the size of God, looked like it should have been on the DEW Line seeking out Soviet bombers.
Anyway, programming picked off the satellite was a continuous feed, even when live programs were being shown.
Listening to the things Johnny Carson used to say to his guests on the live feed during the breaks was hilarious.  Best ever was Carson with Don Rickles as his guest.  More interesting to me, however, was the conversations that went on between sports broadcasters (play-by-play and color commentator) doing college football games of the late 80s.   I heard a very distinguished (retired) coach from the South make the comment, "......that big niggar was running like a stripped ass ape, no wonder them white boy couldn't catch him".

When Schrader drops a guest on Darkness I believe that he sometimes does go open lines. However, it probably wasn't until the last year or so that he had the volume of callers to facilitate this approach. Many of of listeners like myself listen to his show on podcast rather than live, limiting call in possibilities.

That was kind of surprising, i liked the guest and everything Dave said to him and after was just ridiculous.

Our group of listeners at first liked the work of Dave Schrader on Coast to Coast. And following his lead we listened to his work on Darkness Radio. We download 150508 and were amazed. It was a comedy show debunking all the stories that he discusses on Coast to Coast.

   Our View is as follows.

1. If Dave Schrader wants to be a comedian go on Saturday Night Live.

2. His approach to shows on Coast to Coast is in conflict with some of his work on Darkness Radio.

3. At a minimum he should not be allowed to advertise Darkness Radio on Coast to Coast Shows.

In closing Dave Schrader work on Coast o Coast is excellent. The problem starts when listeners follow him to Darkness Radio and listen to the program there.

I respectfully disagree.  While I'm usually not a huge fan of the Friday "supernatural news" program on Darkness I love the Monday night para share (it reminds me of a ghost to ghost light) and often greatly enjoy the Tuesday night true crime shows.  The Wednesday, and Thursday night shows vary with the guests.  While I sometimes find myself disagreeing with Dave on issues like orbs (I believe they do correlate with supernatural activity more than he generally does) I always find his approach to be sincere (as contrasted with someone like say Josh Gates, who although I enjoyed his approach on Destination Truth,  I found that he rarely gave the paranormal little more than lip service in terms of serous consideration".  Dave S. has detailed many, many personal paranormal encounters ranging from his deceased grandfather at his bedside, to a semi angelic encounter at a rest area to UFO experiences near Mount Adams in Washington state.  When he does take a more humorous approach it is generally in a non derogatory manner and is often quite funny such as his "Sonolly gaster" impersonation.  Indeed, if I were to assign a "skeptic index" value to Dave S. ranging from a logarithmic scale of one to ten (with ten being most skeptical of all paranormal claims), I would probably place him somewhere around the 2-3 range and Art Bell in the 3-4 range (think of George N in the 1-2 range and the Amazing Randy in the 9-10 area).  He may not be "your cup of tea", but he consistently strikes me as sincere having gone on record with his personal struggles with near suicide level depression in the past and being down right despondent  over his kids going to his ex wife for the Summer.  The only thing I can't forgive him for is his extreme dislike of Fleetwood Mac, not liking Stevie Nicks borders on being un American, but no one is perfect.  Now if I also learned he didn't like the Eagles that would be crossing the line.

michio

I wonder if Good Dave is associating the legendary Fleetwood Mac's music with a tough period of his life - maybe a breakup with a girlfriend, a car crash, or some other unforgettable event. Music is like that, it plays with our memories and emotions. It is part of what we are as humans, as it often eloquently speaks for and about us.

Here's one of my favorites that was written by Stevie.

I did go back and listen to the Joshua Abraham show with George Noory. George let him run wild. The whole show was a rant by Abraham. Good on Dave for shutting the Looney tunes guest down. Schrader can be serious when he has to, and light when he needs to. Schrader is second only to George Knapp.
Darkness Radio is a fun listen! It is lighter than Coast, but sometimes more entertaining. I'll take Schrader over that stoner, Connie Willis, or even the subdued "Lee Cigar"! ;D

Yes, yes, and yes!

Chad Jacobs

I think it really is a matter of approach and philosophy. Specifically, sometimes I believe that Noory believes that he is just trying to be polite by letting a guest "speak their minds", even when what comes out is an endless stream of unsupported nonsense.  Perhaps he feels "I'm just the host and they are the guest, and if they want to make asses of themselves then so be it".  Other's like David S. perhaps see a different reality, one where in letting a raving guest go on too long with drivel the entire show is denigrated. If the guest can't or won't participate in a two way conversation there is no point in having the interview and it's far preferable to move on to something like open lines where many people have interesting stories and perspectives to share.  Now sometimes (but not always, I've heart Art get rid of guests in the past for much the same behavior) Art will elevate the guest beyond what would otherwise be a mindless rant into something which approaches high intrigue.  Somehow he will cull out an interesting and compelling "plot line" from an otherwise raving guest allowing the interview to proceed in an even more interesting manner.  Of course in the case of George N. I am being perhaps overly generous in attributing his behavior to politeness at least sometimes I get the feeling that letting the guest go on and on has less to do with manners than it does disengagement. I also wonder if George N. doesn't sometimes "sack" guest hosts with less than stellar guests (although Connie Willis getting a someone like Les Stroud  on detracts from my theory if George were saving the best guests for himself I wouldn't have expected someone like Stroud who I've been waiting to hear interviewed for at least six months to debut with a guest host). Personally, if I was George N. and constantly seeing internal data which suggested that my guest hosts were consistently getting better ratings (or more listens in the audio archives or initiating more subscriptions to the premium services) one of my first instincts might be "let's give them some of the stinker guests that I have to deal with on a regular basis and see if they are so still so awesome" .  We all have egos and it's a difficult thing to accept that some people are more gifted, endowed or successful at your chosen profession than we are.  This is especially the case when we have invited them into our workplace to do our jobs when we cannot.

I just listened to Dave Schrader's Darkness Radio podcast of 9/3/2015.  This show perfectly captures Good Dave's good natured humor, charm  and all-around interest in the paranormal life of small town America.

Broadcasting direct from the Minnesota State Fair,  Dave interviews June Gosler Anderson , Anoka ("Halloween Capital of the World") Minnesota ghost tour docent and author of "The Haunting of the Anoka Masonic Lodge".

Mrs. Anderson is warm and disarmingly funny in that flat "Fargo" way, and the show offers a brief and welcome respite from the otherwise crummy and disheartening news of the world.  A great little slice of entertainment.

Hosted by Dave Schrader
Guest(s): Dr. Elisa Medhus, Kim Babcock, Scott Wolter

Until her son Erik died suddenly at the age of twenty, Dr. Elisa Medhus never believed in life after death. But that all changed when Erik began communicating with her from the Other Side. Dave Schrader (email) welcomes Dr. Medhus to discuss how Erik speaks with candor and wisdom as he provides answers on the nature of souls, death, and the afterlife. Psychic medium Kim Babcock will also join the conversation as she channels Erik live on the air, giving you the rare experience to ask questions and talk to someone on the Other Side. First hour guest Scott Wolter talks about how he uses forensic geology to explore untold stories in American history, changing what we think we know about our past.

6-10pm PT: Art Bell - Somewhere in Time returns to 1/6/99 when Michael Thoreau from Borderland's Sciences Research Foundation addressed the idea that plants have real consciousness and we need to rethink our relationships with them.

Weird America/ Unexplained Sleep Deaths

Sunday - September 13, 2015

Hosted by Dave Schrader
Guest(s): Dana Matthews, Greg Newkirk, Adam Bulger

In the first half, Dave Schrader (email) welcomes Greg Newkirk and Dana Matthews, professional weirdos who have traversed North America on hundreds of paranormal adventures in search of everything from legendary monsters to mind bending psychic phenomena. They'll discuss their face-to-face encounter with Bigfoot deep in the hills of West Virginia, and how they instigated an alien abduction on North Carolina's mysterious Brown Mountain. Followed by writer Adam Bulger who digs into a string of unexplained overnight deaths in the 1970s and 1980s, said to inspire the late Wes Craven to create the iconic Freddy Krueger character of the Nightmare on Elm Street series.
