Actually - there USED to be a dead-on Family Guy clip of Stewie - doing this EXACT routine. Sadly, it been taken down.

you know, something that has bothered me for a long time is the oft-repeated assertion that shatner is not a good actor.  i think it's probably one of the most unfair assessments i've seen of an actor.

I agree.  He is a classical actor who had to make a living, and so did lots of stuff that wasn't originally in his plan (Unlike Steward, who has had the opportunity to do both, and I'm still sad I didn't get to she his Macbeth a few months ago)  Shatner is quirky, and usually has his tongue planted firmly in his cheek.  I suspect that the fact that that shows - and that some people just don't get the joke - is why he's not as appreciated as he should be.

Okay - I FOUND a version of it!  If it won't embed - I'll just leave the link.  I imagine Shatner himself would find this hilarious.  IF he's seen it.  He's often oddly out of touch with "pop" culture, despite being part of t.

Oh well - no embed - but GO THERE - really.  If you like Family Guy, you'll like this.

Totally agreed. And to have a tard like Andy Dick talk down to William Shattner about acting during his roast...*shakes head*

Three words: O...M...G!!! You have no idea what you've done for me, EvB. Or to me, as the case may be. In a MILLION YEARS, I never thought I'd see this again. You see, I saw it when it originally aired; thirteen or fourteen, sitting on the floor of the den, a young Trekkie, deeply moved and feeling that sense of the infinite through Shatner's performance of this song that was a favorite of mine. I didn't remember the cigarette, but maybe that's because everyone smoked back then.
Admittedly, I had to sort of force myself to sit through the whole thing this time 'round, as it was so embarassingly awful. But thank you, thank you, thank you for bringing back a piece of my long gone youth.
