MV/Liberace!

watup.  i wanted to ask a favor of those of you who have websites.  please link to http://www.coastgab.com if you can.  it doesn't even have to be a prominently displayed link.  hell, it could be invisible, as a matter of fact.  it just needs to link.  why?

well, first of all, the obvious point is that linking to us will help generate traffic, which will in turn help to build the size of our community.

secondly, and i think most importantly, is that our position on the page in a google search is in part determined by the number of other sites who link to us.  the higher our rank in a google search, the more traffic and participation we will see.

of course, i also welcome those of you who link to us to promote your site(s) in the "hawk your wares" section of this site.  however, linking to us is not required in order to promote your site in that section of GNS.

together, we will build an empire.  MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahaha.

seacrest out.

Siiiiigh - Rocks and hard places dammit!

Okay - here is the story:  I have two domain names.  One is the name of my DBA for tech-writing services, the other is my name. (as in, a version of what's on my birth certificate and how I sign my checks etc . . )  In both cases, I have to keep my slightly uptight professional panties on, hypocritical as that sometimes makes me feel.  I may simply have to get myself another domain name for the Ms. Hyde part of me, and that's not a bad idea . .  I'll consider it.  That could be fun. (I've already got plenty of host space, so WTF?)

But I wanted to ask about the whole "invisible URL" thing.  You are already pretty high n the Google ranks - but I know it takes work to stay there and why NOT try to beat out GLP?  But, I'm not sure going invisible is the way.  I know you can LOSE brownie points for embedding invisible language in your page background.  Isn't this the same kind of thing?

Loui Zoot

Sure, just put a link to your website on my Alien Name Generator page. I'll do the same with my Indian Name Generator page as well. Both have a page rank of three, even after bringing them back from the dead.

Ok, both links are up, both have different wording in the text area, so that'll help a little too, for spidering. They both get decent traffic too, so you might get people clicking in from there.

MV/Liberace!

evb... i totally understand what you're saying with the whole professional appearance thing.  heh... i would keep about 1000 degrees of separation from any professional site and this one.

regarding invisible links, i don't think that's something a spider could pick up on in the html...  for instance, if the text link to a site is the same color as the background on which it exists, rendering it invisible to the eye, but visible for all other intents and purposes.  correct me if i'm wrong here, but i don't know how a spider would pick up on something of that nature.

MV/Liberace!

loui... what sites do you own?

You'd think so - and yet they DO pick up on 'key word (over) loading' that is done exactly the same way.  Are links different?  Maybe - but I don't see how.

That said your request and my thinking it over gave me an inspiration that I find really fun and exciting.  It added a huge amount of pleasure to my evening as I worked on it, thanks.  ;D

Ms. Hyde now has a domain, hosted and ready to rock, for her "bad girl" side. emendationlist.com - with privacy protection on the Who Is.

It will be a couple of weeks before I have a chance to take it live - but when I do I promise you links. Lord only knows what it will evolve into.  Whatever it will be, will be for FUN.

MV/Liberace!

your site looks really solid.  very well conceived layout.  i'm going to link you from ufoship.  actually, that's what i'm going to be sure to do for everybody who links to us here.

Cool Pages Zoot.  BTW, everyone, my "indian name" is - Wise Feather, the lost child of Spanking Hog I like it. A keeper methinks.

Max -

I admit I know nothing about the link exchange add on for this software.  AND I assume one would have to be a member to use it, which so far is reasonably self-limiting.  However, a free-for-all type link exchange isn't good  for rankings at all.  Just as with text that is set as clear - or as the same color as your BG - the spiders can tell. When a site gets flagged for excessive links - REAL PEOPLE evaluate the links for quality, and, if it seems it's "any old link will do" and not sensitively chosen, it's considered a form of Spam.

Anyway - enough of that particular soap box.  I'd just ask you and Michael, before you proceed with any such plan, read this: http://www.hybrid6.com/webgeek/2007/10/why-link-exchanges-are-a-bad-idea.php - Google similar articles - and think about how you want to proceed with link exchanges.  Carefully chosen links can be great, even if there are a lot of them (a prolific web designer, for example, may have over 100 - primarily to companies they have contracted with or tools they use) but links for the sake of links can be the kiss of death - and you've got such a cool thing going here.

MV/Liberace!

loui...  your link is now added to ufoship in the cool links section, visible here:  http://ufoship.com/e107_plugins/links_page/links.php

(for this to punch correctly, you really need to imagine it as voiced by Dean Martin.)

My Indian name is Deadly Leader - the child of Regretful Thunder

My Alien name is Doctor Akagi - Demonic Overlord

It's as if the programs are reading my mind or something.  Solid State Comedians.  Digital wits.  Random Generator Skelton software.

If we're not careful, we will be replaced by these goddamn machines.  I challenge these two programs to get in FRONT of the bricks and BEHIND the microphone and do some straight stand up for ten minutes.

Flesh still has the edge in stand up humor.

For now.  But someday, the computers will beat us at everything, and I mean everything.  Then we will be expendable.

And the joke will be on us - the only ones amused will be the machines.

The laughing silicone-brained bastards.

That's good, thank you.

Come on, everyone else, link to George Noory Sucks, because he really does, and every needs to know.

MV/Liberace!

wow... i'm glad i went into ufoship to put in your link, because while messing around in there i just realized that the links page was all out of alignment and jacked up.  i had to go through all the images and resize them.  it wasn't like that before.  no idea why it was now.  jesus.  e107 sucks.  don't use it.  if i knew i could port everything over to joomla easily and reliably, i'd do it in a second.

Loui Zoot

PostNuke used to be a good, popular cms, certainly was widely popular, I wonder if they might have a conversion utility. Haven't checked them out in years. So I don't know. Not sure what your hosting situation is. But if you need a testing area, to convert what you have to joomla, or anything else for that matter.

Then you can make sure your change works on a backup copy, before risking what you already have, for real. Can be real handy sometimes.

MV/Liberace!

thx bro.  i might give this a try.  more to come.

I still say joomla..

You did Max - and I agree it's a wonderful program.  However, you also said it was difficult to port content from one CMS to another.  So, can you give some specific tips on how to achieve the transfer with the least sweat and bother?  The "for idiots" version would be helpful - you know:

1. put your right foot in
2. take your right foot out
3 put your left foot in
4.shake it all about (in the direction your prefer)
5. do the hokey-poky (if you are unfamiliar with these steps, please consult appendix H)
6. turn rhythmically in a clockwise direction

That's what it's all about!

MV/Liberace!

heh heh... ev... silly goose.

I don't have a website, but I'll link to you guys on another forum I frequent that's dedicated to gaming and anime in my local area. (Yes, had anyone not noticed yet, I'm a geek.) It gets a surprising amount of traffic for a locally-based forum.

Perhaps I could even get the webmaster whom I know somewhat IRL to put a banner or link on their portal page to further the community. There are a few C2C fans over on those forums who share my opinions of George Noory. Although, I'm not sure how a gaming/japanese anime forum and an anti-George Noory forum would seem at all related, but the people are pretty much similar.

If you take any interest in expanding the forum family, just let me know here or in PM or whatever and I'll speak with the guy.

Most assuredly. Although if I presented it to him I'd prefer to do it in a community fashion...you scratch my back, yadda yadda..so I suppose the question is, would you link back to them? I'd like to know how you stand on that before I propose the question, as LAG has no official affiliates yet...and I'm sure we'd like some.

If you like the forums enough to give me permission to propose such a union, let me know first.

Here's the site.

if you feel like creating it and maintaining it, be my guest.  personally, i don't have time to be bothered with it.
