...and just a little more on-topic:  they show these pics of a scary-looking solar surface in some range of the spectrum that the human eye can't see, and show these lashing long, huge solar flares arcing way out into space, and tell you how those flares are 10 or 20 times larger than Earth's diameter.... but they don't mention how those flares are about a three-day growth of fingernail length, on a Sun the size of a ping-pong ball, when Earth (twice the size of "period" on this page) is 30 feet away.   They WILL NOT burn the Earth to a cinder or anything like that !!!

I am concerned about another solar superstorm and coronal mass ejection like that which preceded the Carrington Event of 1859. There were aurorae seen around the world much farther south and north than usual. Many telegraph systems failed and some were destroyed. If an event that large happened today I'm afraid our communication systems, including satellite systems, and perhaps power grid, would be damaged, even destroyed.

This is not to be confused with a "kill shot" as predicted by Major Fraud Dames almost every year for the last 15 or more.

I clearly recall the northeast North American blackout of August 14, 2003. The blackout affected a huge area - large parts of Ontario, Canada, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, etc. I was in NYC at the time. It was a brutally hot day and night. The power was out for a little over 36 hours in my area. It was pitch black in the city...and eerily quiet. Neighbors and strangers were incredibly congenial and helpful with one another. That said, it got me and many others to thinking that, had the power outage lasted 48 hours or longer, the neighborhoods and cities would have morphed into "Lord of the Flies" in no time - a complete and utter collapse of order and infrasturcture. Frightening to think what a fine line humanity walks between civility and outright anarchy/barbarism. It would have been a pretty quick descent into hell and madness, of that I have no doubt.

I know many civil engineers have pushed and lobbied county commissions and city councils to implement major power lines being buried; in 2012, according to their estimates, far, far too many are still situated above ground, rendering them instant "targets" for the next solar superstorm. Our vulnerability is on the razor's edge. I'm in the camp of "when", not "if".

Just as we thought we have seen the last of Sunspot 1476, the former active region decided to produce a solar flare reaching above the M5.0 level. The event reached M5.1 and peaked at 01:47 UTC Thursday morning. A bright CME was generated but because of the spots location, the plasma cloud will be headed mostly to the west.

actually, these predictions by those that study Sunspots are getting much better. not to mention a study of magnetic events on a Solar scale is fun.

A guy from Nasa said it is "video artifacts", but I doubt such artifacts would appear in both cases at the same time. also it doesnt even look like video artifacts but like an object smoothly lighting up-

heres 2 videos showing even more of the weird sun cortex sphere. 1st video is in very high res, second shows it rotating in orbit for longer.
anyone got an explanation what this is? I mean if it's not some kind of "UFO" or intelligent Energysphere, i never heard about the sun blowing up a balloon in perfect circle shape. Helium-Plasma? Water? Would such a thing keep perfect sphere shape, and not be somehow wobbly while orbiting... and then suddenly it shoots off, first only being held by this cord? Seems unlikely. the thing seems to have it's own propulsion to first stay in orbit and then shoot off.
