This is exactly what this thread has needed - an acoustic "smudging," since we don't have any exorcists in here  :)

I think of the 80s as the death rattle of the music industry - it still had some life left in it into the 90s but the greed and corporatization had destroyed it by the end of the 90s.  People tend to blame the internet for its ultimate demise, but the truth is that file sharing just put an end to its misery.

Peter Murphy is one of those legendary artists who has both a great voice and a knack for songwriting.  I don't think a guy like that could get their work on the air anymore - the industry is so sick and stupid now that if you're not a 20ish model type who's willing to sing songs produced by ghost writers and corporate engineering teams, your chance of getting a record contract are akin to your chance of being simultaneously struck by a lightning bolt, a meteor, and a falling piano.

I believe Peter Murphy sold his soul to the devil.  I love Bauhaus but they were not great musicians and Peter's singing was adequate.  They excelled at creating a sonic atmosphere, not great music.  That first solo album Peter put out was amazing.  I think something resembling Party of the First Part took place.  I'm grateful for whatever he did to put that music out there.

=P  Maybe it's getting there, at long last - for awhile there I winced every time I clicked on this thread.  You've posted some great music btw, gracias.

I opted against the official music video because they had people talking over the song :/

Back in Black is a solid piece of work, but when I'm in the mood for raw intensity I tend to gravitate to more provocative fare like Ministry or NIN:

I keep hearing thread-apropos context in a bunch of songs as I browse through 80s music...

All good music. Let's try to keep everyone happy and have some posts that relate to the thread title. I have a question because my memory fails me. When Art talked about time travel and was asked what event or time period he would most like to witness/visit, did he say the time of Christ? I'm pretty sure that Dave gave this answer but I'm not certain about that. Does anyone remember that show?

Yes and I believe you are correct.

I enjoyed the show on the Philadelphia Experiment, though I thought I heard in a follow-up interview, that it was all bogus. Regardless, I thought it was pretty fascinating.

Picking a favorite show is difficult, but the ones about Bugs/Bigfoot and Mell's Hole rank right up there for me.  I look at 90% of the shows as just good fiction and storytelling. When Bugs was on, I was scouring satellite imagery, trying to identify the area along In North Texas.  I am fairly sure I got close to the general area and sent that info into Art. I am still hoping Art reveals the map someday to see if I got close.

I never tried to find Mel's Hole. Someday I might listen to that show again and see if I can find that (if it exists). The way he described the hole, it should be visible from satellite imagery.

One more hijack.  I forgot Sinead.  Whatever you think of her she is very talented and The Lion and the Cobra is an awesome album.  Anyone who responds to a request to look pretty for the album photo and by shaving her head is alright in my book.

I remember catching the show on the guy who was discussing flying rods while driving through a snowstorm to an airport.  It was a surreal experience that I still remember vividly even though the show was so so.

Welcome to the Art Bell thread.  All music videos, all the time.

I recently heard one I hadn't before about the Bell Witch. (Not kidding it is a thing) And it was great.
I think the music diffused things here.

Thank you PBS- it's interesting that he chose a religious figure with an uncertain history based mainly on faith and not the moon landing, Kennedy at Dallas, or the future. Maybe a special point of interest for him.

Art confirmed that he lost the map during a move, so little chance of that. There's a man who claims to be Bugs, named Ed Hale (who is still alive).

Let's keep the positive vibe in here. Favorite Art Bell Show of all time?
Mine is still the Area 51 call in show. Even with that call being fake he still got knocked off the air. Good times. I think I've come to realize it is the time of my life I associate with those times as well. I was working afternoons, and just stumbled upon it. I remembered hearing it as a teen too a few times and it scared the hell of out me.

I think I miss the professionalism of radio in today's podcasts. It used to mean something to either be a degreed engineer or had gone to broadcasting school, or doing your time in various DJing chairs and finally landing in talk radio. With any person being able to broadcast the quality sucks.

I sound old, I'll just get my walker now.  :D

Any of the Malachi Martin shows. For whatever reason, those freaked the teenaged me out something fierce. I guess all the years spent in Catholic school. A close second would be the first Michio Kaku interview when he was still a nobody.
