So, it`s true then that we have permitted access to Art Bell over on your smelly little island kingdom?

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, madam.

Anyway, the smell that scorches your nostrils, I'm happy to tell you, is the aroma of greatness.

+1. Anyone can do a podcast these days, cameras are so good that you can make a feature art house film for 10 grand, youtube gives musicians an audience. Amazon will publish literally anyone's book. Even the screen writer's chances are getting better now that Amazon is buying scripts. The playing field has never been this level for creative people to get themselves out there. It's extraordinary.
And yet we still have Noory.

And now it's time for my Saturday morning post.
Tonight starting at 8:00pm Central time over at http://ksyl.com will be Art Bell: Somewhere in Time. It's the full show when we journey back to June 16, 1995, when Art celebrated his 50th birthday with a plethora of birthday wishes and greetings. It was a night of open lines fun with a twist of birthday sweetness.

http://ksyl.com does have a live stream and can also be found on Tune-in. If you are local to Alexandria, North West Louisiana , they can be found on 970AM.
Also for you folks with a bent for nostalgia, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Central is 2 hours of old time radio programming from the time when "Radio was King"

"Theres Magic in the Static"

Cool!  https://youtu.be/PVF9lZ-i_ss?t=1s

On last night's show Art vaguely, and I mean VAGUELY mentioned the ratings of MITD and how that might impact the future (paraphrasing A LOT here).

Did anyone else interpret that as the ratings in the Portland market will be closely analysed when the first results are listed, and that there may be large stations in other markets ready to add MITD?

That was my interpretation, but curious what others think!  :D

Rowdy Roddy Piper died. Wow😥. He will be missed.

That did seem to be implied.

Thanks! That's what I was getting, but it was so vague I easily can be wrong...

Here are some fun posts that Dean "Dino" DeMilio made on Art's facebook page.  Dino is Tom Leykis's associate producer, and the one responsible for getting the Art interview:

Quote
Dean DeMilio: I am guilty of freaking out like a little kid. I was running up and down the halls during one of the breaks. That was incredible and the best guest I have ever brought to the show in my opinion. Art is THE BEST.

QuoteDean DeMilio: I am guilty of being out of my mind with excitement during the show. I have been with Tom Leykis around members of the Beatles, huge celebrities, famous politicians and mind-blowing guests since working for Tom over the last 16 years. This interview was my favorite by a country mile.

Another great Hendrieism: South of the Rockies... well that would be Mexico, wouldn't it?

This.  I didn't hear about it until it was already over.

"So I walked out to my car........and I clicked the clicker.....to unlock the car" "...are you there Art?".........
I know AB likes open lines, but I do not.
Would much rather hear an interview between 2 brilliant people.
If I wanna hear a yokel, I'll go to work.
Can't wait to hear Monday's guest.

I heard it earlier this afternoon on http://blowmeuptom.com/ - it was repeating. Maybe if he hasn't done another show since then it is still repeating?

I do not know what rss feed means. I have very little tech abity, but I listen live, as well as to the archives. I feel compelled to add 2 cents to the 5 bucks I've contributed, and say, be grateful for what we have, we have Art frigging Bell back on our "devices".

Just sayin'

cue Dancing Queen...............

Is that you, Keith?

Still haven't caught up with the last few shows. And/but I am having this odd realization about Art's guests. I don't really have any preference for any particular guest or subject matter. (Unless they're a member of Rush of course). Bascally, I don't really care about the guest although I understand that some will be more flavorful than others. I just want to hear Art engaging in conversation. I guess that's why I've always enjoyed open lines the most.

I suppose. To me it feels like gnats surrounding a street light. Everybody has the same chance of being discovered. Just like the lottery. But with the added feature of very poor grammar.

It's a better problem to have than what we had before. The publishing industry, especially in sci fi, had started down the path of the Hollywood movie. They started wanting more dumbed down character-driven work as opposed to hard sci concept-driven material. As a result the modern Arthur C. Clarke's and Robert Heinleins of the world had poor chances of making it through, whereas now they're getting attention on Amazon with works like Wool by Hugh Howey and The Martian by Andy Weir. Yes, many of the self-pubs don't bother to hire freelance editors, which seems like a huge mistake to me, but that stuff comes out in the reviews customers post on Amazon.

I won't even get into how bad screenwriters had it. That was an industry where you had to be doing someone or be someone's kid to break into. Not so much anymore.

slippingaway

been looking at the screenshots of Art's studio...

"The dashboard was full of esoteric lights and dials and meters that I would never understand"

I only wish I could Pimp Art's ride a bit. I see 2 mice, and the computers almost out of reach. There is this nifty cross-platform program called Synergy that lets the user span across and use 1 keyboard and mouse with multiple machines. it's the bees knees! I originally installed for my sherriff's department because they needed a solution, and they instantly fell in love!

I, Like everyone, love Art's clock and was suprised to find they are made a few hours away from me in Derby, KS. http://www.brgprecision.com/ . Might be ordering me a fancy-dancy clock too.

Wow Jack, that's kinda creepy and cool at the same time. I've never seen a government agency that proactive in dealing with writers to the point of attempting to provide inspiration. Did you see that weird inspiration recommendation? "The Vilification and Vindication of Colonel Kuklinski"? Wonder what's up with posting that? Very cool link.
