Coinincidentally, I came across this article today. I've seen this first hand in younger generations and it scares the hell out of me.

Really good read.  Thank you.

Good read. I know Columbia and NYU kids who fall into the libertarian and conservative categories who are afraid to say much of anything for fear of inciting the liberal lynch mob. This encapsulates things nicely:

I also know people who've gone to conservative colleges and been afraid to say not liberal things but just anything that went against the hive mind of the student body.

People are generally stupid. Large groups of people are massively stupid and able to shout outliers down.

Back in what 2002/2003? The very day we invaded Iraq. I was standing in a room full of people at a part time job. Every one of them were cheering the invasion. Some one said "We're finally going to get Al Queda!" And I stupidly spoke up and corrected them. Then about ten people stared at me as a supervisor asked me if I supported our troops and the war. I said, "I think invading Iraq is stupid and is going to do nothing but get people killed." I was then shouted at by the group all at once. It was like a furry of sound hitting me. I was barely a day over 18 so I didn't know how to handle that. Just then the head honcho walked in, he had been listening apparently, told everyone to quiet down and shamed them for being rude to me for using free speech.
That man, was born and raised in Kentucky, a born again Christian, and had a Bush bumper sticker on his Cadillac pickup truck. Yet, he wasn't part of the hive mind, the group. He was his own man.

This is my guess for a story based on the lyrics and how the flow of this video goes.

"Mr. Mark Gormley, meets a wonderful Amazonian lady out in the wilds of western Florida parklands. She lures him deeper and deeper into the wild with her lustful gazes and come hither face spasms. Until just like that, she's gone! Poof. And Mark is left alone, in the woods with out her. He travels far and hard to find her again and after gorging himself at the local Longhorn Steakhouse on chicken fingers, he stumbles upon his brunette beauty. But she's not alone! And she's indecent. She's on a stage flaunting her stuff in a bikini for retired tradesmen and part time Minutemen. Distraught and devastated by this perceived betrayal. Mark Gormley volunteers for an experimental mining operation that will take place on the moon. They wipe his memory and after shaving his mustache perform genetic alterations to change his face and body structure. When he awakes he looks a lot like Sam Rockwell and thus Mark's story continues in the scifi indie classic. MOON, where as you can see, despite the body modifications and memory wipe he still has a penchant for leaning to the side while standing."

When is the next gabcast, and can I call in on a landline?  It has been a couple of decades since I have used the word, and suddenly feel an urge to tell MV what I think of his sexual preferences...

I'm out and I'm proud, sir.

oh god.  levin.  i can't even begin to understand how a listener sits through that for three hours.  in my opinion, if you want conservative talk radio, you listen to rush and then hang it up.  no need to loiter beyond that.

Shut up, you big dope!!!  LOL!

Levin does take some getting used to, no doubt.  I lived in the NE so I'm sort of acclimated to that sort of voice.  My wife goes crazy when she comes home and I'm listening to him on the radio.  I  like it when he starts talking about the Constitution and the history of the US.  His observations on Locke and Montesquieu are enlightening.  LOL.

I can only take Hannity in very small doses.  5 minutes every 3 months is all I can take.  I like listening to Savage sometimes but I find Michael Medved's show more interesting as hs show doesn't stick to 1 topic.  I love American History and he has a lot of guests that write good books.

I'm having to do a lot of catch-up on this thread.  All I'm going to say is some people need to grow a thicker skin.

I constantly walk through a minefield of words in my current profession and understand how powerful words can be. But the big problem with the word police debate is that people resent being told what they can or cannot say. The word police thing only exacerbates the very problem the activists believe they are solving. By making fag off-limits it immediately taints the gay rights cause with baggage by pissing people off and strengthening their prejudices in the same way that the suppression of dirty words in the past has led to a modern culture where one of the most commonly used words in every day vernacular is the word fuck. Word suppression does not work, it backfires.

The proper way to deal with it is to let people say whatever the hell they like and focus on condemning actions. The goal of the gay rights activists will be achieved far faster that way.

A brilliant post.

Here, here. Hive mind/herd instinct mentality is the bane of our time. We're so used to dividing ourselves based on pop-cultural input, whether it be radio hosts (Art very much excluded), celebrities, politicians, or whomever that wishes to benefit from division that we go into the fight mode over almost anything. Look at this thread, in the last few days it's devolved several times into an us-versus-them fight about Apple products with some people ready to slit throats over it and then a long-going fight about the proper use of the word "fag" in modern culture. It's mindless.

The liberals and conservatives have turned political debate into a Mad Max political landscape. It's a post-political world of bullshit defined by the media, pop-culture and special interest groups with access to good PR. To both sides: your ideas suck. Anyone that defines themselves as "liberal" or "conservative" has lost the point of human existence. Be "you" and things will be better for everyone and ditch those two stupid fucking rigid ideologies and relegate them to history so they may rot with communism, Marxism and absolute monarchy -- you know, the irrelevant shit people used to fight about years ago that no longer matters even though millions died for them. Your ideology will someday also no longer matter. It pays to understand that every time you passionately tell someone to get right with god, the bible or the environment or the fags or whatever the hell you're on about this week.
