I liked Ian. I thought he was smart and interesting.
Me too.  And he made the show his own for the night when he hosted.  He did interviews that nobody else would have done.  Like the Dead Rock Stars show with author R Gary Patterson.  His book was "Hellhounds on Their Trail: Tales from the Rock N Roll Graveyard"

He isn't to everyone's taste, but I enjoyed the time when he put Steve Quayle in his place a bit. Quayle was rambling on his usual way (giants, end of the world, what people don't understand is...zzzz) and Punnett told him he didn't believe a word of it and he was just frightening people. You've got to respect someone who does that.

Absolutely.  Some complaining that Ian made himself the show over his guests missed the point imo--he just didn't let nonsense go unquestioned.  Much like Art himself.

Hey Art, even though money is not your primary objective, have you considered making your next entrance into the broadcast arena as a non-profit? I ask this because it will allow you to keep a sizable majority of your revenue which you can reinvest in the Art Bell Broadcasting Project. It's been done before, and I'm relatively sure you've heard about it - it's a most excellently executed business model. Art, they're talking about a scantly 110 million viewers. Surely broadcast radio listners can see and double their numbers worldwide (people and dollars).  LET'S RIDE THIS?

The Real Super Bowl Question: Should The NFL Be A Nonprofit?

The National Football League takes in more than $9.5 billion per year and is exempt from Federal taxes. As a nonprofit, it earns more than the Y, the Red Cross, Goodwill, the Salvation Army or Catholic Charities â€" yet it stands as one of the greatest profit-generating commercial advertising, entertainment and media enterprises ever created.

For the love of Richard Sherman, how can this be?

NFL takes aim at $25 billion, but at what price?: For the NFL to reach its revenue goal by 2027, fans, broadcasters and sponsors will have to pay more and more

NEW YORK (Jan. 31) â€" Sunday's Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., might be the most popular and expensive television program in U.S. history â€" about 110 million viewers watching a football game that commands nearly $4 million for a 30-second commercial.

Tickets at the 50-yard line cost about $10,000. A 20-ounce cup of Bud Light will cost $14.

"Nothing is really sacred anymore," said John Vrooman, a sports economics professor at Vanderbilt University.

NFL lawyer Gregg H. Levy made the argument that as "long as the NFL clubs are members of a unit; if they compete as a unit in the entertainment marketplace ... they should be deemed a single entity"
(NFL lost the case in trying to get an anti-trust exemption. But the point is that they claim it is "one entity", not competing independent teams, and that is it "entertainment.")

I can write but not in any accomplished manner. Some things just defy explanation and how I do a talk show is one of them. It is kind of like I go into another place. I really can not explain. I rarely think of the number of people listening, I remember when I would go on a big new station in some big city, that would screw me up for a while as I thought about all those people but then I would move back into my comfort zone of the subject at hand and all those nerves just evaporated. Weird stuff.

Art

That is just the creative space. Happens all the time when I write. One minute I am there actively typing, the next two hours have gone by and I have no idea what I wrote.

Very much looking forward to July Mr. Bell.

PERSONAL RESPONSE FROM THE PROPAGANDA MINISTER:
ONE AREA WHERE THE SCORPION ARMY LOVED IAN PUNNETT WAS HIS DISCUSSIONS OF HIS "ANGRY PRAYERS TO GOD" WEBSITE. AS AN ORDAINED DEACON OF THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH, HE STRETCHED HIS NECK WWWAAAYYY OUT FOR THAT WEBSITE! AS A PERSON WHO NEVER GOT A FAIR SHAKE FROM ORGANIZED RELIGION, I LOVED THAT INTERNET PROJECT OF HIS! I WOULD LOVE AN UPDATE SHOW WITH ART ABOUT THAT WEBSITE OF HIS! HERE'S AN AMAZING INTERVIEW WITH PUNNETT FROM THE MAY 2013 EDITION OF ESQUIRE MAGAZINE:

I always try to believe the best of people but I guess I should be more careful, some people seem to be just full of poison, I wonder what happens to somebody that turns them into such negative nasty people? I don't expect most of you to even understand what I mean by this. Most of the people here are good folks but I guess like any group some rotten fruit is on the tree.

Anyway today should be a interesting day as we get closer to some kind of resolution with our partner. I will be spending time later today listening to all the music you all have posted and again, thank you.

ManiacMatt

Art,

What do you think of the possibility of the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders sharing a stadium in LA?

Most of us San Diegans are annoyed by the entire situation.  It may very well be a ploy by the NFL to force San Diego into building a new stadium, but the people of San Diego don't want any tax increases (who does?).  If the Chargers move to LA, they will be the second rate team imo, because the Raiders have a much bigger fan base in LA.  I also don't care for the idea of divisional rivals sharing a stadium.

Looking forward to the new show!

Yep--unfortunately Art, there are always dicks around and the net certainly attracts them.  You see them in any group in the net--and anonymity just makes them worse.

Just so you know, the vast majority here are big time pushing for and supporting you.  Can't wait to hear your announcement!  Mega good luck!

Not sure it could be done, seems like there would be conflicting games? I want a NFL team in Las Vegas!!

Vegas would be great to have an NFL franchise BUT supposedly the league doesn't want the gambling association.  Even though they know they benefit from gambling!  LA though looks like it WILL get 2 NFL teams.

VegasI15

Raiders in LA would be cool.  The Rams need not apply as they went off to St. Louis and hurt a lot of NFL fans in LA.  But to be honest I miss the XFL.  That was one cool league!

Art Bell

Why not NFL in Las Vegas? We had XFL and there were no problems with betting. We are a big city now, it's not fair.

I agree!  But when listening to the NFL insiders(on radio+TV) they always discount Vegas because they say the NFL doesn't want the gambling association.  Even though they are being phonies about it.

Agreed, the gambling argument is weak.  NHL is considering a team in Las Vegas, why not the NFL?

ManiacMatt

The Raiders would be a good fit for Vegas!  That would annoy a lot of Oakland and LA fans.

There are still a lot of Rams fans in LA.  I attended the Charger/Rams game last season in SD and I was surprised at how many Rams fans were there with the old LA apparel.

Yes but I lost respect when he apologized. I put ian in the same category as hilly. Decent but hit or miss.

There are for sure.  Personally I wouldn't support the Rams if they came back.  In that case I would still be a Chargers guy.  If the Raiders went to Las Vegas I'd be Ok with that as well.  Change their name to the Las Vegas Gamblers hehe.

As long as they don't take the Angels and Dodgers away I'm happy.

Art Bell

I agree completly, the Raiders seem perfect for Las Vegas. However the Fan's are a bit rough, when going to a Raider game you better be wearing Raider black or be sure the fan behind you is not playing with a knife, I know because I have been to a few Raider games. However their image would fit right in.

If l.a. Doesnt have one Las vegas isn't getting one. I think san antonio or Austin gets the next relocation. It is freaking exploding around here. 300 people move in to Austin PER DAY.

Well the latest is LA will end up with 2--probably the Rams and Chargers.  That leaves the Raiders stuck and maybe Jacksonville.

I was listening to a old show with leer as the guest. I completely forgot about a call in I made in the mid 90's as a 5th grader. I dialed my little heart out for 4 nights straight. I finally got through and panicked. I had this animal noise maker I used to use to annoy my brother with. I was to scared to talk when I heard east of the Rockies you are on the air. So I just pushed the monkey noise button.

Art was nice enough to say anything else? No, well I guess that's all he had to say.

It could still take a couple of years but according to Chris Mortenson and others they are finally getting close with the stadium and deals in LA.  We shall see.

I agree florida has to many sports teams and they fail to support them. The Marlins, and rays have had decent years in the past and we're just ignored. I believe if Jacksonville did so the result would be the same.
Meanwhile the detroits and clevelands of the world suck it up yearly and still get plenty of local attention.

laserjock

I think Vegas SHOULD get a team, it IS a world class city (though personally, I've been there but never gambled, not even a quarter of a dollar).  But still, it's football and ever since the CTE truth came out, I just don't see the game as I used to.  They are eating up players and spitting them out.  Not the only sport where this is a problem, of course, but if you read and watch stories about CTEs and see what happens to players, it will upset and anger you.  If we are paying these people to die young, we should be honest about that and come right out and acknowledge it.  Then we can come to terms with being no better than the Romans.

Juan

Don't listen to the idiots in sports media.  Jacksonville has a great fan base and no blackouts in six years - despite having a terrible team.
