It would be really nice to hear Ian host again. Maybe Art will have them as guests someday?
I never liked Ian hosting a show. It was usually a reason not to listen at all. I don't like his voice (he sounds like a cartoon character), and he is too close minded which affects his ability for logic thinking, because he can only reason within his narrow pre-determined horizon.

Punnett loved the sound of his own voice, always talked more than his guests. I never could stand that pig-snort laugh of his.

Ian sounded like he had nasal problems all the time .....
He also thought he was more intelligent than he really was ......
Talked too much ...... didn't listen enough.

also I finished listening to that old creationist interview from like 1998 and it was hilarious

dude was saying dinosaurs and people lived together at the same time, creationists think the fucking flintstones was a documentary
Was this Doctor Dino?!?  If so, do you know where it is in the massive torrent?  I hate to say it, but that was one of my all time favourite interviews- and I would love to see what it is like to hear it a decade and a half later.

You wouldn't happen to have an alter ego named Jane or perhaps one that goes by a different call sign like Mary...would you?

I liked how Ian provided a sort of odd fellow cheery contrast. But he could be grating.

This is a fair assessment. Far from the worst host of C2C. But not really the best either. But compared to Garr and Timmy, he is fantastic.

Art, have you seen this?!?!

Its the Europeans really tiny classy answer to our giant Atom bomb tests in the 50's.

Just because others do something amoral, doesn't mean Art should.

And neither should I. But you can if you want to. It's your choice. You can decide all of the important who, what, when, were, why, and how's of your life. I don't believe that anyone else can make those choices for you....unless you're in some sort or type of institution. But outside of institutionalization everyone, of age, can do all of the rest for themselves too.

The NFL eats up and spits out players, just look at how many suffer from CTE.

Yeah, that darned NFL money just keeps drawing them like flies....
The NFL offers opportunities for certain and particular skill sets that may or may not be available in the general job/labor markets. Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) has been shown to occur mostly in those who have had repeated brain banging. It does not take a neuroscientist to to tell someone that if they keep having head trauma and getting their brains banged up, in, down, or out they're gonna end up having some serious issues, because of it, at some point in time. But I guess no matter how much they're offered they seem to want to play this game anyway...go figure.

Art can decide for himself, but I say leave it to him how he does business.

uugh, yeah, alright, sure if you think that's the right thing to do, or the right way to go. Then I too say let's do that one!

I always laughed at Art's description of such situations.  The scientists think our universe could be obliterated should this experiment fail.  Art would say something like "You know they are going to push that button anyway." Then they come back later and let us know that if it had failed, we would have been obliterated.   An asteroid came very close to Earth yesterday and would have killed millions if it impacted the globe but (Ha Ha!) nothing happened.  Nothing to see here.  Move along now.

Yup, it just shows you, no one knows what the hell they're doing, they are all faking it til they make it. Or in this case blow some tiny ass particles the fuck up.

Yeah me too.  I didn't like alot of his topics, but some of his shows were really good.  And he seemed like a pretty good-natured guy for someone obsessed with serial killers.

Me too. I thought Ian was really good, but felt he got stuck with some of the worst guests they could dredge up... and almost feel like it was by design.

Ditto. For those reasons, I think he was the only one that had the sort of "edginess" that Art has. He was the only one I'd go out of my way to listen to till he left. I hadn't really heard enough of George Knapp to have an opinion on him. I've heard good things but hadn't listened to him enough to know if he has "the edge" that gives a radio show a bit of substance.

rzr1911

I rather listen to George Noory than to Ian. At least George is accidentally funny and doesn't sound like Mickey Mouse, and doesn't think he's smarter than he is.

Ian was hit or miss with me but I did enjoy his interview with Max Brooks about World War Z, treating it as though it were real.

I just heard a promo for IHateArtRadio - one of those that solicits advertisers.  It emphasized that everyone is now carrying a phone and listening to talk radio that way.  That's what Art has mentioned here.

I heard an almost identical pitch on my local (corporate) FM radio station this weekend--along with an invitation to "listen online!" Marketers are wetting their pants with the realization that everyone is now walking around with a portable radio cell phone in their hands.

To put this shift in context for some of the younger bellgabbers...BITD terrestrial radio relied on a random sampling system of tracking listener habits called Arbitron
(from the word arbitrary:  Based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nielsen_Audio

It's not surprising corporate radio has finally embraced a marketing ploy directed at people carrying around cell phones/radios, as data collected on online listener demographics is finally precise--right down to the listener's IP address--a revolutionary leap from the random and arbitrary Arbitron of yesteryear!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_radio_audience_measurement

The iHeartRadio(onlyforthemoney) marketing meetings are likely now a smorgasbord of pie charts with a dazzling array of eye candy on listener info such as;  length of session, number of sessions, on which specific device, from what town, state, country...data mining heaven!

Art

Great, Art!  Do your own thing--I'm sure you don't need our advice to run a great show.  BY THE WAY--so it's a new week and as Art said, the big announcement may be here very soon!

laserjock

Ian was my favorite other than Art, but knapp was just about as much liked by me.  Ian appealed to intelligence and would often be funny.  And he wasn't harsh right wing, either, he seemed moderate politically which will appeal to more people.  His best shows were exceptional.  I really miss the guy.

Can't wait for art to make the formal announcement. People are going to go bananas.

Yes - very interesting. They used to have to wait "til the books came out" for ratings periods. I wonder if those ratings are summarized much more frequently now. Seems there's still a "May sweeps" for the TV season though.. at least there was last year.

He isn't to everyone's taste, but I enjoyed the time when he put Steve Quayle in his place a bit. Quayle was rambling on his usual way (giants, end of the world, what people don't understand is...zzzz) and Punnett told him he didn't believe a word of it and he was just frightening people. You've got to respect someone who does that.
