Yup. They even run them in place of John Batchelor on both nights now.

It's insane logic. As someone who has to get up at 5 AM for work, the weekend is the only time I'm able to listen to late night radio including Bachelor whom I like a lot since 9/11 days, and it's precisely now that the infomercials are played, all of which drove me to the internet years ago and I'm a radio person, through and through. The corporate bean counters killed radio here in NY.

Art,

I've been a member here for 3 years and lurked many years prior. I don't post as much as others but I have noticed everytime you are active on the board, especially leading up to Dark Matter and now, all manners of trolls, bots, and headcases come out the woodwork derailing threads, pitting members against each other, and planting seeds of discord. Coincedence? nah, we all know there is no such thing.

That being said, the board is full of smart, witty, and funny posters who are genuinely fans and truly appreciate you being here and can't wait to hear you again.

You are correct and I am expecting a assault. It has happened EVERY time they face competition and this time it will be more intense. Sometimes it is hard to pick out a Bot but eventually they out themselves. They start like a caller to Dave but then turn like a rotten Apple. It is something I live with both on and off the air. I also don't cut them off if they come after me on the air, I just deal with it, it is why I do not screen calls.

Infomercials during daylight is increasingly common, even a powerhouse like WBZ in Boston has succumbed to this affliction. It's why AM radio today is about as vital and alive as Sunny Von Bulow was after 1980.

The worst is when Dave says 'they hung up' and dumbly says their name a few times before moving on..

You know another thing that insults me intelligence about a Premiere Radio: they don't have a mobile friendly website...

And the sad part is there'll be no big movie digging through the forensic evidence about why it went belly up. ::)

But don't forget he also asks his audience to pray for Goatsy which may be his only redeeming quality.

AM had a chance to be innovative a long time ago and they blew it.  I was talking about radio playlists before, when a local Top 40 station went to oldies I was excited to think of what it might sound like.  When it launched the playlist was narrow and the announcers were bland, what a disappointment.  Years later I turned to the internet to figure out why radio was so boring, turns out they've done studies where if a song is played that the listener doesn't recognize they turn to another station.  Good luck hearing something "different" then, that's true of the classic rock stations too on FM now.

They're just trying to hold the audience they've got until the ship goes under.

Wow, I really wonder if these Female harmone harpies really thought by my age I didn't know those words or did they just want to make a Public fuss of disguised disappointment?

I have a Public life and a more private one, in my private one I use such words very sparingly. In my Public life I don't use them at all, and in either case not around Children and until that rather recent post I had thought Children were not here...my bad.

I must say the level of most talk here gives me hope that although most higher IQ types have abandoned Dave, they are still around on here.

BTW Pam (Lisa) were you just free thinking or wishing and hoping?

Couldn't let my bf enjoy dinner.  kept peeking in and rereading your comment.  When I looked up harpie/monster and went back on my posts, I now understand your remark.  And I'm more sorry than before.  I'm not good at trying to be sarcastic/funny either.  I should have never asked the hypothetical question thingy post I asked you about if you didn't come back... blah blah.  Reading it again, it's def stupid and childish but I'm drinking rum and was relaxing and reading here and saw the pudding lady go more than crazy and I just don't know.  I wondered if their nuts over that what might some people do if you quit.. I should not have posted it even if I thought it.  The worst part Art is that's my really bad sense of humor at work and I thought it was funny.  If you knew how lost I was as you slowly disappeared, and you could hear me, this is why I hate texting, you would know that I'm not trying to be a jerk off.

And to digress, the cussing question has a lot to do with listening to other shows and I shouldn't have said, whats with the rule?  If you had heard me say it it would not have come across the way it did.

Ugg, I had already forgotten about the hypothetical comment I had made when I started chatting about something else.

Another big factor in the decline of radio is voice tracking, or even worse, Virtual DJ (robot--non human voice)  Historically, I think one of radio's biggest strengths was its immediacy (live shows), and intimacy (the human voice).  Pre-recorded podcasts have their place, but there is something truly magical about listening to a good live show with an engaging host like Art Bell.  Particularly if the broadcaster offers humor and hope vs doom and gloom.

If any of you see anybody walking down the street listening to AM radio....well, you won't. Again don't get me wrong I have strong feelings for those days, even a special place in my Heart for AM but sadly it is going away
faster then IHeart can sell them for pennies on the Dollar.

There was a day when if you were good you could find a way to get yourself on 500 or so stations running a combined total of millions of watts. Now if your good you can reach MORE people Worldwide on the Internet and it will get better and better. The key is you have to have something people want to hear, and if you have that they will find you without one watt of transmitted power. This will finally open the way for new Talent to find a way to be heard, it's a new day.

Ok, the Cats are fine. Yetti is amazing, he is 23 Years old (at least) and still going! Abby is about 23 pounds and also going strong. Dolly is our Filipina darling and doing well. I will try to post pictures of them on FB.

So there you have a CAT-shup

You still have Dolly!  Ha haa, her persistence in Manila really paid off.  I hope my kitty lives to such a ripe old age of 23.  She is quite the handful, and with three cats, I imagine feeding time at your place must be fun.  Glad to hear all is well in the Kingdom of Nye.

Btw, I fail because the local station that carried Art for so long with no interruptions moved to FM with the same call letters... and switched the original station to all sports. Same people/some of the same crew with different formats, but when they changed to FM they went from entertainment to hardcore rightwing nuttery. No offense to any regular right wing folks around here.

I wonder what the Wolfman's power bill was at Xerb?  250,000 watts would be a far out power bill..yikes!

maybe Rush is a good entertainer. I never listened to his show.
the youtube clips I saw were mostly political stuff, and I don't like his analysis and opinions (mostly about the US invasions and their meddling everywhere, I'm with Ron Paul on foreign policy).

Right on Art, I'm old enough to have listened to AM Top 40 in bed with a transistor radio.  Now I can hear thousands of stations in bed with a smartphone.  The future is here.

Skunk Ape

Rush's endgame is to have his name in the headlines. Whenhe says he's providing show prep for the main stream media, he means it. Good example is just this week when he spoke about the SAE racist chant, he said had Kanye West sang it he would be winning awards (paraphrasing) and the next day it became headlines. He's a great puppet master.

Skunk Ape

Same thing has been going on with Stern recently. Howard has been critical of podcasts saying they are for losers and that no real broadcasters will ever get noticed with a podcast. He says that one day and the next day his name is everywhere. He has good points, but it was again to get his names in headlines

I agree..  Right now I'm reading BellGab and listening to a retro of American Too 40 from 3/19/77..  It's all about choice and the freedom the web gives us that terrestrial radio no longer offers.
