Wow, I really wonder if these Female harmone harpies really thought by my age I didn't know those words or did they just want to make a Public fuss of disguised disappointment?

I have a Public life and a more private one, in my private one I use such words very sparingly. In my Public life I don't use them at all, and in either case not around Children and until that rather recent post I had thought Children were not here...my bad.

I must say the level of most talk here gives me hope that although most higher IQ types have abandoned Dave, they are still around on here.

BTW Pam (Lisa) were you just free thinking or wishing and hoping?

Agree, it is already starting, as the numbers shrink the smaller markets will go first, simply not worth the power bill. Even the large 50K stations. One big indicator is stock prices of the big guys, dropping like a rock.

Am radio has gone to hell is a finely woven handbasket over the least few years, and I find it incredibly sad. Back in the day when I first started listening to the local radio station it had a number of great local shows on with various topics, and of course you on at night. Now they are all hard right, and most make even Rush look normal in comparison... but the real problem is that they all talk about the same stuff verbatim. Now they are even putting on ads for stuff like fish oil that cuts off the last hour of the Dave Noorie Show on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays. You can't really tell the difference, but this is the first time they have ever done that which is odd. I'm just not sure if it is because of his overwhelming level of suck, or am radio failing.

Indeed. I just feel bad for George Knapp because to me he really is the only one worth listening to these days.

If George Knapp was the full time Host I would not come back and just enjoy the show.

It would be smooth sailing with Knapp at the helm.

Art, I had to pop back in for this.  I'm joking would be the appropriate word.  I asked at least 3-4 times, maybe more, how your babies were (and family) so I now know at least this time you saw the question.  I'm not sure from your post if I'm suppose to apologize because I frankly don't even understand the post.  So to save more unnecessary posting and questions, I'm sorry?  I'd love to know why though.  And so you know it, was just conversation.  I didn't care as much as I just wanted to hear what you thought.  Once you stated that I was done.  Don't get this at all.  what is a  harpie?

I think the same could be said for a lot of us on here, but I don't want to make a habit of speaking for others. George Knapp has always been great, and I wish there was a way to hear more of him... and less of Dave.

So glad you blew Pam's cover.

As for AM radio, I live in a largely Hispanic area (Los Angeles) and have noticed that Hispanic radio is growing in this area.   I listen to radio vs. cell technology because radio is cheaper and less radiation exposure in the car, not to mention more privacy from tracking. I also pay $10 / month to NOT have a smart meter on the wall next to my head where I sleep.

Okay Art.  Read it again.  Until that recent post you said.  I guess I'm very bad at trying to combine cussing with a joke.  I am sorry that I had to be the one you picked to say that too.  Maybe you missed all my questions about your kitties.  There isn't much more I can say.  I am a huge fan.  Or trust me, I would not be here.

While the unbridled greed of big corporate radio and their overpaid "talent" have ravaged small independent stations and ultimately destroyed commercial radio as we knew it--the medium of terrestrial radio isn't going away anytime soon.  In many parts of the world, it remains an important source of vital information.  In fact, the exodus of these greedbags from the industry could be the best thing to ever happen to terrestrial radio, returning control and access of information back to the people and communities from whom it was taken.

Great point, what's most disturbing to me about AM in particular is how on the weekends you can tell there's "nobody home".  No live announcers or deejays on the few stations still playing music, only voice tracks.  No local news either, only a centralized news feed that's seemingly played on every station.  Only informercials or replays of M-F talk shows, all this because they've cut costs to the bone.  There's been instances where I live where a flood or something or other occurs on a weekend, it's impossible to find any news updates of any kind on the radio.

Community radio will soon be the only voice of the people.

Art,

I've been a member here for 3 years and lurked many years prior. I don't post as much as others but I have noticed everytime you are active on the board, especially leading up to Dark Matter and now, all manners of trolls, bots, and headcases come out the woodwork derailing threads, pitting members against each other, and planting seeds of discord. Coincedence? nah, we all know there is no such thing.

That being said, the board is full of smart, witty, and funny posters who are genuinely fans and truly appreciate you being here and can't wait to hear you again.

Radio stations all over the place are loading up on paid programming on the weekends. Major market stations can charge thousands per hour, which is more ad revenue than even fairly successful programs bring in locally. The problem with doing this is that the prices are based on ratings. Drive all the listeners away with Colon Blowâ,,¢  infomercials, and watch your ratings plunge. You can't charge those premiums anymore. But the bean counters only pay attention to monthly numbers - March looks good? Great, let's do it again next month!

I think even the mighty WABC runs an infomercial on one of the weekend days.

True about Knapp..he's the odd man out at that show..  He's often the only listenable thing on Coast.
Still wondering if he's not bound by some cruel contract Pam made him sign if he could be your weekend player.. I think this room would have a collective mental orgasm (sorry kids who are present)

Exactly, and it's true of AM because it's an older demographic.  It's the same demographic that grew up with AM Top 40 radio in fact.  When oldies stations first started on AM they played a narrow consultant approved playlist designed to hold the listeners they had, not broaden the audience.  Even then they were losing listeners to FM and that was 30 years ago.

There's a saying that starts with "Fool me once...". Last time around was a learning curve. This time around, it won't be so easy for the bots and general nutters to disrupt because too many Bellgabbers have been down that road a couple of times now, either here or on Fantastic Forums. But they can and will try, bless their pointed little heads.

I listen to AM now and then when my phone battery does.. There's a Harrrisburg Pa radio host I enjoy hearing occasionally during afternoons on WHP580. But then when I turn on the iHearteadio app I realize how Am radio will never compete as a venue again..
