Relevant, and worth reading:

QuoteStern’s looming free agency comes at a time of upheaval in the radio business. A crowd of Internet radio and streaming music companies, such as Spotify and Pandora Media, are competing with Apple and Google to further disrupt the marketplace. The coming battle for Americans’ ears, whether in the car or on a computer or smartphone, promises to be fierce. In this unsettled territory, an exclusive deal with Stern could be a fearsome weapon. In theory, he could do for somebody in Internet radio what he did for Sirius in satellite radio.

I doubt an exclusive deal with today's Stern would even cause a ripple.

Still has an estimated 3 million listeners. That ain't nothing.

i'm surprised this didn't get a bigger rise out of everybody than it did.  if it means what it appears to mean, that's really big goddamn news, people!
Certainly you decoded the letters KNYE in the most recent PM?  It is not huge news- all that it means is that we were all right that the broadcast will originate from the studios of "Mr. Big", KNYE...

With that said, I am willing to start a letter writing campaign to my local AM station.  They carry Dave without any of the other "packaged" radio shows.  This means that they carry all of the suck (Dave) with none of the benefit (the day shows that actually draw listeners.)

Yep!   This is major NEW info!     ...but I'm still not ALL-IN, time will tell.

I have a feeling that nugget was thrown out there to keep the Davebots guessing. I will be happy to be wrong. My old baygen doesn't get much use these days and it would be great to fire the old girl up again.

Looks like we are on the same schedule and similar thoughts this afternoon.
I headed over to Falkie's thread, see you there.

It's hard to argue with the study, I suppose. Though I remember an NY Daily News column back before the merger took place (Apr-Jun 07) that reported, during an average week, Howard Stern had a total of 1.2 million listeners who tuned into his channels which averages out to 300k per day for a four day show. It boggles my mind that the merger with XM (a listener base that chose the satellite company that didn't have him) and a sporadic, lighter schedule could increase the audience since then. At any rate, 95% of subscribers polled said they would not pay extra to keep him around so it will be interesting to see what Sirius/XM do if he balks at their offer.

I see THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW is airing on AMC (aka AMERICAN MOVIE CLASSICS) as I type.

Does that give you any amount of pride, Art?

If I was on Internet only I would expect a lesser pool of callers to start but, so what? I built it up before and I can do so again. The Internet would at this point with technology where it is, give me as big a pool of POSSIBLE listeners as 500 Radio stations.

If it is a smaller but smarter show, trust me I can live with that. I have always loved building new things and after they are built its kind of boring. I love new technology and the Internet is chock full of that.

My feeling is if we build it and it is good, they will come. If they don't its their loss.

Art, why don't you start those who want to subscribe the keys to the kingdom...let them start subscribing now?  $15 - $20 per 30 days. This charge will be made to their accounts every 30 days. The serial subscribers will help to shore up your operating income.  Offer a news letter of some kind plus free downloads of the shows every 30 days plus the offer of the choice of a free hat, mug, T-shirt, key chain, or autographed book, and other future free items.  The consequential listening audience want to hear your live show, but for various reasons they really can't fit your live show into their schedule. They will be charged around $5 per download of the each show. A free download after every 5th  downloads.

What Rush did was end the monopoly by the so-called Main Stream Media over how political news in this country was reported.

Of course the MSM and those who support their favored political party hate him for it.

But the other half of the country finally had someone in Media who was easily accessble - who reported on events that were too often otherwise buried, who provided important additional details which had been conveniently omitted from MSM reporting, who voiced our opinions, and who was entertaining to listen to.

Boo hoo. "The media people actually listen to won't give creedence to my craven misanthropic views! Thank God this corpulent glutton is my champion !"

Yawn.

fuckin great plan. there is no show yet! What Art could do though is make a "go fund me" or patreon page. Then you can send him your money for the $20k gear he wants to buy.

yeah, i was hoping someone out there might have recorded the show, but it appears not.  this has happened once in the past, and luckily a listener was creepily recording the live broadcast at that time and came forward with the audio.  doesn't seem to be the case, this time.  disappointing.

Dammit, I stopped listening after I called in... was thinking I could catch up later. Figures, I finally get the chance to call and I broke the show!

Sirius has a listener base of 25.6 million.  So if we take 95% at face value that comes out to 1.28 Million listeners.  Multiply that by a subscription fee of $15, which is the package required to hear Howard 100 and 101, comes out to $19.2 million a month.   So losing Howard would be a big loss to SiriusXM.   Howard himself knows this.  And we aren't even counting the advertising money that comes in on top of that.

Well for one thing, frankly I don't need the money. After my experience with Sirius/XM I don't want anybody sticking their neck out but me.

My guess is this is going to work beyond my wildest hopes but if for any reason it does not I want it to be me that takes the hit, not you all.

On another subject I read the piece on Howard, I think he is thinking the very same thing I am, however our situations are not the same...he is on during drive time so Sirius/XM is perfect for him, my show is a night time deal and the Internet is perfect for me. Again almost everybody has a smart phone now, think of them as portable radio's.

The World is at a point of change and I am ready to ride.

Ad slots that are occupied by pillows, razors, and Ashley Madison exposes the caliber of advertisers satellite gets. I wonder how much it costs for a live read on today's show?

...and how I do also "want to take a ride" again!!!~!!!

For people concerned you can get all kinds of transmitters/speakers via Bluetooth, FM, etc to send the signal from your smartphone, tablet, or computer. So you can listen to Art at louder volume, like on a radio, in your house, garage, car, etc. Hell get a cheap smartphone or Android tablet and dedicate it to stream and broadcast the show (that way you can still take calls or play Angry Birds etc on your phone.) I can't wait for the new show. Norry is clearly nervous judging from recent shows.

ps: I always watch "Day After Tomorrow" every time it is on in hopes that Art, and even Whitley, receive some kind of residuals and because I like the effects and concept.

I rewatch it in the hopes that they'll air a special extended edition hosted by Art Bell, ala Rod Serling.

I absolutely can not wait for Art's return. Where ever he does his show, I will be there. I still listen to the old shows all the time and they are always great radio.
IF he was back on terrestrial radio, that would be a dream-come-true. Big news indeed.

I know it's extremely primitive by today's standards and technology, but I'd love for him to bring the random webcam shots of him broadcasting in his studio like the old days.  That was an element of the show and his site that was waaaayyy ahead of the time.

Okay, okay....you are wealthy. I think that we all can accept that.  What if there is a catastrophic event happens and depletes all of your personal funds? What will you do then? WHAT WILL YOU DO? Not only you, but what will Airyn do? Will she be ready to take the mic when you can not? Even on a temp basis.

We are very appreciative for your concern, but our help is more of a legacy issue. You see, whether it's going to be Airyn or someone else, we'remost of us will still be here when you're not, and we will need your mojo. The pallbearers will each have a ouija boards deployed to make sure that you're around and to allow you to communicate with us when when you can no longer communicate the regular way.
