With almost 2 years to reflect on the "Autumn of the Stalker," I have a nagging feeling that this is the CNN-style surface version of the story has more to it than what ever has been said or suggested (except possibly here on Bellgab)  It was a confluence of several things including his numbers sliding almost daily since the July 20 show, Heather's wishes to get on such show at very least as a cohost. The stalker was real, but was probably amplified as a convenient out excuse (although the incident with Asia in the corner crying with the police lights outside likely happened.) Part of Art secretly likes this type of drama with an adversary and his role of the father protecting the family as long as its tangible.

Something else occurred several days before he announced the quit. For all I know, it was "paranormal" - red-eyed shadow men, poltergeist type stuff. Catch-22. If he reports it to the police, it would discredit the earlier reports. Nye Co. Sheriffs would think he was drinking his own Kool-Aid and stop searching for the human stalker.

Recall he was saying at one point there was more to it, but then he backed out of saying more. With all the negative commentary this would have made an ever bigger shit storm.

Just my best guesses.

I think part of this was he wanted to have Heather as a co-host, instead of just doing a show when he wanted there would be a nightly show and he would have someone there who would fill in.  Being Art, he decided to keep that to himself and just spring a co-host on the audience with no advance warning - then was surprised at the reaction.  So much for him being ''open and honest'' with the audience, when its actually something important about the show.

It all went downhill from there.  There may or may not have been an incident he could turn into a ''stalker'', but after the shit storm following the Sirius quiting he certainly didn't want to put himself through that again (he doesn't take criticism well).  If there was no stalker, he would have needed to make one up.

I recall while he was doing Midnight in the Desert he had the opportunity to pick up a serious amount of terrestrial radio stations but turned it down. It had the ring of truth to it because his excuse wasn't that good. It was something like 'I want to keep it small'. What I took from that was he knew then he wasn't into doing it any longer but wasn't sure what he was going to do about it. I can't remember which show it was when he said it, but it's out there.

Was there ever any blowback from the terrestrial radio stations Bell stiffed by quitting? Did he or Keith get sued? I remember saying during the lead up to MITD any PD who hitched his wagon to Bell/MITD was an idiot.  Wonder if any of those guys lost their jobs?
