You mean "the police"?  We used to think of them as being employed by the public, their salaries being made up of our tax dollars. How they came to being thought of as being our "authorities" I have no idea.  Must have been some evil "meme magic"...

Someone has to be in charge of public order.  Unless you want a vigilante system, and with everyone deciding for themselves what should and should not be tolerated and what to do about it.

We should probably abolish the police unions, along with the other public sector unions.  We need to be able to fire the lousy employees - police included - much faster and easier.

A cartoon frog - who else out in the world routinely loses their shit over cartoons?  Oh right, al-Qaeda and the rest of the violent Moslems.  Just yesterday in Jordan some Islamic fanatic shot and killed a journalist there over some cartoons he didn't like.  The Left is not democratic, but is happy to use our freedoms against us.  They are on the same ideological side as the violent Moslems when it comes to speech, including cartoon suppression.  Unfortunately the comparisons don't end there.

Look at this white nationalist cartoon and then I want you to honestly tell me that this isn't offensive and shouldn't be roundly condemned.

This is remarkably asinine, even for you, which is saying a lot.

We need to control our borders.  Please tell me, what on earth is wrong with that?  We have cartel members, gang members, and common violent criminals flowing in.  The sane among us want to end that.

We need to be very prudent which - if any - refugees we accept from the violent Muslim world.  I'm not going to bother going into the why's of that, they are many and should be obvious.  If you really don't have any idea what I'm talking about, I'll be happy to point them out in another post.  We have the right to do what's best for OUR country - believe it or not that's what we elect our government officials to do.

To compare any of that to the Nazi's, to Jim Crow laws - really?  To put it plainly, that's pretty stupid.  To compare prudent immigration policy to Nazi's and Jim Crow is to diminish the real evils of those.  You should be ashamed of yourself.

Beyond that, let's look at some recent Left-Wing phenomena:  Marching in the streets, street mob violence and thuggery, shouting down speakers they don't agree with, attacking police - that's not democracy, it's what those who seek to destroy democracy do.  If you are such an expert on the Nazi's, these should not be difficult connections to make.

This whole idea that everything and anyone who doesn't agree with the Liberals, and now the 'Progressives', is somehow racist has gone from a sleazy but unfortunately effective way to get votes and stifle debate, to the point now where these fools are everywhere trying to upstage each other in finding new examples of 'racism', new reasons to trash the country.  They are stooges for the anti-democratic forces trying to divide this nation by race, and ultimately destroy it.  You really don't get that?

The most notable part of this post is that it is entirely based on wrong assumptions about where I stand on the issues you bring up: borders, immigration, violent protests and probably, whatever else you have in mind. You somehow also think I am some sort of leftist. Also not true.

I think you just blithely read things into what people actually do say and mean. Then, you're off to the races, insults included. I do oppose Trump. You did get that part right. You just got the reasons wrong.

Yes they are. Would you care to re-post any of them that deal with the above issues? That might or might not help to make your point.

Just be sure to do it in one of the politics threads. We should try not to post stuff that has nothing to do with Art or the forum in this thread, as others have said.

Technically, only Politics is unmoderated. But, in reality, you're right -- no part of this forum is moderated.

As for other forums, they each have their own ways of doing the moderation job. Usually, the moderator is just trying to apply the rules, not acting according to personal likes and dislikes. Some are better at the job than others. In the best moderated forums, the moderator hardly ever needs to step in.
I was a member of a completely unmoderated forum years ago, and loved it.  There were many more posters than BG, and there were many more personal attacks.  The owner possibly stepped in a couple of times a year- and people had actually reported others for their interactions with me (I never hit the report button, and specifically asked him not to intervene...)  When the owner sold it, moderators (long time members) were brought in.

The site still exists, and I last logged in around 2009 or 2010.

***This might help somebody identify me.  Last logged in April 2 2010.  Just did a search and found the handle that I used there in several posts from years ago under "people we miss on this forum."  I'm kind of touched, and tempted to see if i can retrieve my log in credentials...

Anyhow, nothing will kill a site like this faster than bringing in moderators.

Probably true. You're not even gone from here yet and I'm already nostalgic about you.

Love ya...  But I suspect there are at least a few posters who might cheer my departure...

I've been reviewing some of my posts on the other board.  Man was I an opinionated, cynical, sarcastic bastard.  Glad I grew out of it.  :)

Oh right, Canada-haters. Don't get me started on them. Snidely Whiplash-types who would rather tie Nell to the railroad tracks than face Dudley Do-Right man to man. Why I oughta...!

Let's try to make this post Art Bell related...

If Art Bell doesn't provide live commentary tonight during the debates, I vote that someone host an emergency gabcast to provide commentary during the broadcast...

Thoughts?

Who would be your "dream team" of cohosts should Art Bell not be on the air...

MV and SV.

2 thumbs up!

MV would be my first choice for MITD Host, Bateman my second, but I know neither one would do it.

Hmmm, which one was it?  One of the 'other' ART BELL forums?

did they turn out just as clear? you have a great voice too. any plans to do a dark matter show?

Anyway, sorry I took a while to reply.

Thanks.  Sometimes my voice is pretty good, and sometimes I sound like a eunuch.  I think it depends on my T cell count at that time.  I generally can't stomach listening to myself, and I suspect there are others who would agree.

The EVPs I've captured have varied in clarity.  Some are ambiguous and might not even be an EVP at all, and others are inarguably clear and unambiguous.  A few favorites stand out in my mind:

1) While standing over the graves of my great great grandparents, I recorded a voice that asked, "Goin' home?"  The voice can be heard just as I take my first step to walk away, so it's in context with real events.  When I play this one for people, I generally do so without first polluting their impressions with what I hear.  They almost always hear what I do, or some variation of it.

2) While standing over another grave, I captured a voice that simply says, "Hi."  It's one of my favorites because of its clarity and simplicity.

3) One night, my grandmother (now dead) accompanied my friends and me to a cemetery containing the graves of numerous people she actually knew.  One of the dead was a teacher, and for a few moments my grandmother discussed him and his teaching career.  On the recording, while she's talking, you can hear numerous voices, all speaking simultaneously, one of which is a man who uses the word "teach" or "teacher" several times.  Pretty amazing, and since I recorded it myself, I don't question its authenticity.

It's been many years since I hit the cemeteries to do this, and I'm thinking it's about time to do it again.  Perhaps Friday night, as a matter of fact.

Why would you want commentary during the debate, as opposed to afterwards? Is anything that anyone would say going to be half as interesting as the spectacle of the debate itself? I'm including Art here.

Just thinking aloud here (without putting any thought into the logistics) but is it possible to stream this live?

It would give a whole new dimension to "dead air." Mostly, you would hear silence or some sort of static. (Unless Luca or someone was doing commentary on the silence and static.)

it is, but in addition to all of the silence, if you heard something you might not have a way to know if it should or shouldn't have been there since you aren't on the scene at the time of the recording.

i think it's been about 11 years since i went EVP recording, and the technology has certainly changed a lot.  the last time i went, i had to walk around with brig's bellgab laptop with an external microphone connected to mitigate any fan noise the laptop might generate.  and now i can just take my phone?  sweet.
