"That's Nostrand. Dr. Art van Nostrand"
Yeah. Big news. Biiiiiiiig news.

I think it's Dr Martin van Nostrand. You might be confusing him with George Costanza's alias Art Vandelay the Importer/Exporter.

My personal favorite of Kramer's alter egos was H.E. Pennypacker the wealthy American Industrialist.

The best of H.E. Pennypacker & Dr. Martin van Nostrand

MY OH MY! It's beautiful. It's like you could see the future and knew we would have a need for this. Great work PB!

Yes, of course it is. But then "Martin" doesn't play in too well with Art Bell. "Art"? Get it? Not that I blame you for stepping the hell all over my little joke. Because my little joke was obviously much too little and should never have been posted anyway. *sigh*

Okay, which one of you wrote this?

It's an interesting piece with a heavy thread of truth, but the author weaves it at the expense of coming across as a condescending prick.

Just my opinion.

I wasn't trying to burst your comedic bubble it's just that I'm a Seinfeld Nazi (is that an Oxymoron). Anyway Art is contained within Martin so it's all good.

Well it's been a long time since I've posted here! Been practicing voyerism! Not really!

Just want to say I don't give 2 shits what others think, but Im glad Art is coming back!

C2C just sucks anymore! Except for a very few guests it's terrible! Snoory has more bullshit than Carter has peanuts! His motto is " If you can't dazzle them with brillance, then baffle them with Bullshit!" And Snoory has a ton of it!

When Art did dreamland it was awesome! Now it also is shit! Whitley's is a wack job & hope he stays away! George Knapp would be great!

I hope he stays with the paranormal scene! It was great when at times call ins would report a live sighting & Art would track it live with others calling in their sightings across the states or from where ever!

On an interesting topic Snorry cuts people off as his only interest appears to be how many calls he takes. Art would dedicate the time the topic dictated.

Looking forward to your reurn Art! I for one wanna take a ride for as long as you can navigate!

Would be strange if this happened...Since Art is a Libertarian.

Adam Carolla has had 60 million downloads of his podcast since 2009
has 100% control of his show which plays 5 days a week M-F
I believe Art could make a killing with the same blueprint
Being as you bring up Carolla, he is one of the people being sued because he has a podcast.  As I understand it, a company distributed tapes of magazines (long before the internet really existed).  Now they believe they have a patent on podcasts and companies are paying them millions.  Included is one link and you can do the research yourself.  It would be laughable if it were not so stupid (and the fact they have tens or hundreds of millions for an idea that did not work on technology that did not exist when they filed for a patent.)
http://splitsider.com/2013/01/adam-carollas-company-sued-over-patent-dispute/
And a link that will probably demonstrate to you why Art may not want to come back on podcast (and gives a pretty good, short summary of patents, podcasts, patent trolls and payments.)

Art's politics have shifted and wavered over the years. In the early days he seemed more a right-leaning Libertarian (though he rarely made his own politics central, as I've pointed out many times, and he welcomed guests of all sides). Certainly he was (rightly) caught up, as many of us were, in post-9/11 patriotic fervor, though I imagine he's as horrified as many of us are by all the ways in which that tragedy has been exploited by those with other interests. I think he probably remains a Libertarian, but he supported Obama in 08 (and took a lot of heat for it), and he is on the record with being pretty left-leaning in a lot of social issues.

For instance, I've often mentioned the July 2010 episode of Coast--one of his final shows--on which his guest was an environmental scientist. They tried to have a serious discussion about related issues, and both of them were just beaten down and berated by Noory loyalists calling in, who had a different opinion and tried to tell Art and his guest how wrong they were in no uncertain terms; and no matter how much Art pleaded, "Let's agree to disagree", it didn't stop. Given that he only did one or two more shows after that, I've always believed that night was one of the last straws, if not THE last straw, which convinced him that Coast had become something he didn't want to be a part of anymore. If you listen to that show, he just sounds so broken and defeated.

Not to put words in his mouth; just saying, for those who remember Art having a rightward lean at one time, you might be surprised. Though at this point I think he has probably joined the ranks of those (like me) who are generally disillusioned and disenfranchised with both parties..

EDIT: The show I'm talking about was July 23, 2010, and here's the page for it: http://www.coasttocoastam.com/show/2010/07/23

I'm excited like the Pointer Sisters over Art's return.   8)

Art's added a second question mark to the end of "Wanna Take a Ride?" on artbell.com

The link goes to a youtube of "Highwayman" The Highwaymen - Highwayman

I think that goes out to Unscreened Caller who suggested it earlier.

Heather Wade

Whoa, wonder if he's listening to the stream?  There was a show on earlier today where a caller requested the Highwaymen to be played.  Can't believe I missed it, been hitting refresh all day!

Good memory you have.  I remembered someone requested it, but not who.   It's probably inadvertent, but sometimes after these website updates the little alien head favicon disappears.  Like now.  Can I request that it be put back?   :)

Edited to add, welcome to CoastGab, Redacted.   If MV was here, he'd invite you to post a lot.

I remember either reading or hearing Art say that he hates listening to repeats of his old shows.

Keith and/or Art, if you lurk, how about putting the alien head favicon back on the URL bar?   As onan once said, let's do this.

lonevoice

He's added quotation marks to the beginning and end of "Wanna Take a Ride??"  The first one goes to "I'm So Excited"

The Pointer Sisters - I'm So Excited

The second one goes to "Wicked Game".   I love that one.

Chris Isaak - Wicked Game

You scooped me.

Me too. It's great being here live for all the changes.

I love Wicked Game and always loved it when Art went out or came in with it.

Heather Wade

Thanks for the warm welcome.  This is going to be weird for me because I've never actually discussed this particular love of mine with others.  Seems like now is a great time to start.

And yeah, if I were on the radio, I wouldn't want to listen to myself either...

Funny thing to me, Art's site (in the last few days) is way more fun than c2c's site has been in years.

And The Highwaymen is on as I type.

lonevoice

Okay, he removed the quotation marks, but added two more question marks.  Those go to the same songs as the quotation marks did previously:  "I'm So Excited" and "Wicked Game."

He's playing with punctuation lol.

Yes, he is.  He's now changed the fourth question mark to an exclamation point, still going to "I'm So Excited."  I think this changes the emphasis to note how excited he really is about this imminent announcement.   Art sure knows his audience - where they hang out, and what time of day to entertain us.  In his own way, he's already competing with C2C.  I agree with redacted that this is way more fun than anything Jorch has ever done.

Heather Wade

Ok, I'm just going to enjoy this very entertaining thought that the King of Talk actually read my post.

popple

I checked the ! to see if it was linked to an official announcement  :P  It wasn't but I'M STILL SOOOOOOOO EXCITED! lol
